Look guy's the silence is so you think that the track prior to this was the end of the CD. It's supposed to creep up on you, so you listen to it with great intensity. Like...There is two minutes of silence on the end of the track Triad on Tool's Lateralus Album. Which then opens up into Faaip De Oaid, to scare your stoned ass.
@kellyklf Because of space allotted to a CD, sometimes artists will fill up their last track with silence to occupy all of the space they can. Not sure why, but it's tossed in for filler. Kind of weird, I don't understand myself.
@Zas379 It's something called filler. They might have had quite a bit of recording space left on the album as almost all of the songs on The Big Come Up are about 2-3 minutes long so usually some bands will do something where they use up that space by doing what TBK did here.
But there is one voice that has never been heard before, the voice of old Mr. World himself. The way he might sound if he could speak to us in our own language. Mr. World, how is this wonderful and orderly Earth of ours formed in the first place? And how long has it been going on?
somtmes cd's have 20min silence on the last track because there's a hidden track, sometimes they just have the 20minute space for nothing whatsoever, bit of a mystery really
if it was a hidden track, it used to be that hidden tracks were just given high numbers like 140- and old players wouldn't find it unless you told them to go to that direct number. Now cd players skip the blanks, but some cd players would insert about 3-8 seconds at the start of the new song for each blank song; making a large section of silence. my guess is this was their way of getting the same effect with new cd (or mp3) players.
Makes me remember disgustipated from TOOL's lateralus.
@j0ejack haha, disgustipated isnt even music. its a story about religon, carrots, shotguns shot and pianos smasked to a six-beat, and a serial killers phone call. dont get me wrong i love tool, but that song was just creepy.
and dissgustipated was of Undertow. just sayin :P
@iforgotmypen aaaaactually disgustipated was track 69 on the album. not kidding. and what do you mean i described nine inch nails? go to wikipedia and look up disgustipated. all the stuff i listed is whats in the song.
@onda42 nope. nirvana and the black keys are dope. i think its cool that they dont follow the "usual" time structure in a song. i didnt mean these guys are jokes in a bad way, where im from "jokes" means funny, so thats what i meant
Best song to smoke up to. And if you forget to turn the album version off after the song goes on about "Mr Earth" ( 20 minute gap) you get blasted with the 'Moon". Some seriously trippy good shyte :)
This song is great

Biggest load of crap, why the silence?! I don't buy using up space, all it does is use up my hard drive space.

So, I know putting to 20 minutes of silence in there was intentional...but why? What was the point of them doing that? Someone please respond.

@Zas379 It's kind of a hidden track, If you wait a while on Nirvana's Nevermind, Endless Nameless comes on after Something in The Way.
