I studied the Bible plenty. That's why I'm an atheist. I learned how psychotic it is. Also, I became very addicted to oxycodone when my jaw bone was being eaten away by a bacterial infection for a month. I got up to 12 tablets per day by the time it was fixed, and I was drinking coffee to enhance the effects as well as stimulate myself to avoid shutting down. I broke my own addiction in 2 days without suffering withdrawal by using simple refined medical knowlege, not "God."

It would be nice if a conscious being did create the universe, but as humans we are always casting god in the image of man, and with the faculties of a human. Why does there need to be a creator, why not just a chain of events and the laws of physics. i don't think humans can perceive what the universe really is. we have sight, hearing, touch, smell, and perception; that's how were plugged in. It's irrational. Humans have an insane knack for trying to come up with explanations for shit we know damn well cannot be explained. That being said, I'm neither religious nor atheist, and I think both sides need to shut the fuck up and realize that there is no way (at this point in time) to know how the universe was created. Religion is the equivalent of saying some guy believes in unicorns, and persuades some other guy to do the same, and so on until everyone believes something that is really just an empty claim. But Atheism is no better. It's like saying stars turn off during the day cause we can't see them.
I've was raised a Christian. I've read the bible multiple times. It is absolutely nothing more than an oversized, overrated fable. God is not some guy in the sky telling you what to do. I actually despise that we still call this power "God", because that subconsciously associates it with the humanized, mortal (actually no, make that LIVING period) gods of greek mythology. About the idea of being able to overcome an addiction from faith... I think its more to do with the self-fulfilling prophecy. When humans have something to rely on, they feel much stronger. I think its not so much whether God exists or not, but rather the effect of believing he exists that matters. That's just what I think anyways, and I do admire how open minded you are. I went to seminary school and I have a degree in theology from the ISU. And I can tell you that the bible has very very little strong evidence to prove it's legitamacy. There are no contemporary historians sighting Jesus Christ. And there are no contemporary authors in the bible. Also the bible is held to much less standards than any other book. Look back in time at the bible and notice how/when we started to remove the word slave from it.
I've always felt that the single greatest screw up in the history of man was the notion that one group of people was better then another. The bible is built on this idea; one people claiming they're "chosen" above all others, that god has given them a mandate to ruthlessly slaughter or enslave those not "chosen". Your god freed the Hebrews from slavery and knowingly led them to an already inhabited "promised land' . What did god do then? Commanded the ruthless murder of said inhabitants.

Not everybody believes in God or agrees with what the Bible has to say. When I was a kid, I went to a private school where the Bible was either served as a form of punishment or forced upon me. I too am searching for the truth. I know the answers are not in the Bible. I look for answers outside the Bible & there's nothing wrong with that. I believe in God too. I've studied the Bible, I have looked at archeological sources and written sources outside of the religion of Christianity to see if they can collaborate the stories. We've not come to the same conclusion apparently, and I find it highly unlikely that Jesus is the son of God, or that the Bible gives any higher likelyhood of a God. I'm glad you don't believe in hell though.

It would be nice if a conscious being did create the universe, but as humans we are always casting god in the image of man, and with the faculties of a human. Why does there need to be a creator, why not just a chain of events and the laws of physics. i don't think humans can perceive what the universe really is. we have sight, hearing, touch, smell, and perception; that's how were plugged in. I went to seminary school and I have a degree in theology from the ISU. And I can tell you that the bible has very very little strong evidence to prove it's legitamacy. There are no contemporary historians sighting Jesus Christ. And there are no contemporary authors in the bible. Also the bible is held to much less standards than any other book. Look back in time at the bible and notice how/when we started to remove the word slave from it.

Truth demands good evidence. There is very little evidence that Jesus even existed let alone performed miracles, was born of a virgin and rose from the dead. The book IS wildly inconsistent with its rules. Jesus does not even condemn slavery, a pretty simple moral rules I would think, which explains why Jefferson Davis believed the slaveholders were on God's side. Not everybody believes in God or agrees with what the Bible has to say. When I was a kid, I went to a private school where the Bible was either served as a form of punishment or forced upon me. I too am searching for the truth. I know the answers are not in the Bible. I look for answers outside the Bible & there's nothing wrong with that. I believe in God too. I don't think you're stupid, but I've also learned on You Tube people don't always like to hear, listen or agree with your own beliefs.

I've studied the Bible, I have looked at archeological sources and written sources outside of the religion of Christianity to see if they can collaborate the stories. We've not come to the same conclusion apparently, and I find it highly unlikely that Jesus is the son of God, or that the Bible gives any higher likelyhood of a God. I'm glad you don't believe in hell though.

A god inside the universe is bound by the laws of physics and thus any god like that is all-powerful, etc. is impossible at that moment. Omnipresent god's too, because they are even inside the universe thus effected by it's laws of physics. So it had to be a god in a humans body, thus the document instantly loses all credibility knowing someone who is bound by the laws of physics wrote that document, ergo not a god, at best a human claiming to be one...

CJ; are you aware that there are many PHD accredited Bible scholars who readily accept at there are many inconsistencies, and even outright forgeries, contained within the Bible? Some of those scholars are in fact self-professed atheists.
Some names that imediately spring to mind are Bart Erhman, Robert M. Price, and Hector Avalos. Are you really trying to assert that these professional Bible scholars have not actually studied the Bible? Get real man.
