Very nice, I like Irish music it is totaly different from Greek. Its amazing how the bouzouki has been played and adapted by two cultures with different style of music.I also luve the way Irish dance, interesting culture.
@ebebimik wow, you're so polite! Actually an irishman visiting Greece brought a bouzouki home with him back in the 60s. It got adopted into the irish folk scene quickly by bands such as Sweeney's Men and Planxty and instrument builders started to make their own version of the greek bouzouki; the irish bouzouki. If you don't believe me look it up.
Nope, the mandolin is tuned to GDAE and the bouzouki is GDAD. (You can tune it the same but its not the normal way.)
Not much of a difference in tuning but its played quite differently (Irish mandolin usually plucks the melody while bouzouki usually plays accompaniment)
lol the person in the music store lied to me then...sad face:( GDAD makes more sense for Irish music though, because they do a lot of modal stuff(neither major nor minor).
Actually, if it's any consolation - a lot of folks do tune the zouk GDAE (particularly if you like mixing melody and accomp.) or even ADAD ..... it really comes down to what works best for you!
haha you should listen to our band then.. we use a bouzouki , and holy crap that thing is awesome for runs and fills.. the band is bass, guitar, and zouk
