@soggytoast89 Fights over these things? We can't rid of them fast enough. I could sit out on the lake and catch them all day for months. Some would be around 3 pound. Just so many of them it's ridiculous. We have far better eating fish here in New Zealand. Only good for the pigs and cats are far as I'm concerned. Snapper, Hoki, Gurnard, Hapuka, John Dory, Tarakihi (sea fish) all great eating fish and there is plenty of them around.

@untleso well it all depends on the breed red fin perch are small and get to be like 1lb or even less i am not sure - and the nile perch gets to be around 150lb

I would have held the British record 15-16 years ago but didnt record it as i was young and my dad should have told me that side of things.. I now carp only fish but i miss this style of fishing and general coarse fishing. Those who say use larger dead baits etc may want to know my Perch of which i have several images of with me looking cool in my Bmx t shirt..... 5lb 2oz was caught on two red maggots and a small red worm. I also caught a Tench year after a 12lb 11oz tench on a small worm.
