It would appear so, but Snowball would have become just as bad as Napoleon. When George Orwell wrote the book, he based it on Stalinist Russia, but the intent was for it to match any dictatorship. One of the themes in the book is that power corrupts people. Snowball was so obsessed with the windmill that it is likely he would also have become corrupt, just like Napoleon, even though he genuinely wants to help Animal Farm.
I understood every little allusion the book was making to the Bolshevik Revolution, the rise of Stalin, and just Soviet Russia in general when I was first reading Animal Farm.
@namjj1000 Pigs do, in fact, have pretty wicked teeth. Most non-herbivorous mammals have some number of sharp teeth, if not just the canines. Plus it serves to make him more intimidating without tusks.
@TjLadd147 i just read it for school, and i definitely recommend it. For even a person who doesnt read any books! Its perfect for school, since its so short and thrilling
Jones- Tyrant. Above all other animals-> Start of Animalism. All animals are equal-> Animalism at the end of the story. The pigs are like tyrants over the other animals, like tyrants.
@Finster1998138 That is indeed the moral, and a rather good analogy for why Communism does not work on such a large scale as the USSR.
It's just a shame that American officials had to censor the real ending of the book to make it match up with their anti-Red sentiments more effectively. It lost much of the original message.
@rasberries123 Read the book, like in the case of the Wizard of Oz, the book was a lot different in the story than the film. One was about economics of silver, the other was about a la la land story.
Don't watch this if you're using it for school. I suggest actually reading the book, it will only take you about a day (maybe less if you're a faster paced reader.) If you're not willing to, just use spark notes.
The best solution would be to read each chapter, go to spark notes, and view an analysis. Gives a good understanding of how the chapter corresponds with history.
It's little known that the book is actually a literary adaptation of the first tome of Leon Trotsky's "Revolution betrayed". Snowball is in fact Trotsky, while Stalin is named Napoleon in the story, because of the term "bureaucratic Bonapartism" used by genuine communists to describe the political degeneration of Soviet Russia under Stalinism.
This movie/book is timeless, its all about overthrowing the old regime and creating new one which eventually become similar (or even worse) than regime before. Pointing out the greed of politicians who exploits people... Its happening all over the world and people have to open their eyes.
sweet, :D i have to read the book for school. is there much difference between this video and the book? I have the version of the book which counts around 100 pages
Book - Ends at animals looking through the windows of the house and confusing the pigs for humans.
Cartoon - The animals overthrow Napoleon, just like they would Jones.
Movie - Benjamin, Jessie, and someone else ran away from Manor Farm to wait out Napoleon's cruel reign. It paid off, but everyone else, especially Napoleon, perished.
The movie and the cartoon both created true endings to the book, but I favor the cartoon over the live-action movie, anyday.
a lot of people say the humans attacks on the farms are the nazis but the book was finished in 1943 before the soviets turned the tied on the eastern front
i think more likely the book is based on early soviet wars fighting the white russians those who supported the czar - jones including foriegn nations ie the other farmers that why i think the ending works so well the pigs takeing the place of jones and becoming friends with the farmers the same way stalin became friends with germany
iv read the book so hear old major = lenin or marx /napoleon = stalin /snowball = trosky / farmer jones = the czars / the dogs = kgb or stalins loyalist i havent watched the whole thing yet and its ben a while so no more characters
the book ends with the animals seeing the pigs at table with humans in the house, and not being able to tell one from the other. Theres no revolt. Otherwise it's pretty darned true to the book.

@IanpiElfenomeno Well...there were some differences, aside from dialogue. Like when Frederick's men were run off. The animals were supposed to back off after taking so much damage until the windmill was destroyed, then, they were supposed to get so pissed, they violate their own tactics to run out Frederick's men, then, even if they had to kill.
can anyone tell me two differences between the book and the movie? I read the book a while back but I forgot, otherwise I have to read it again.. Thanks alot!
@Juultje51 the book ends with benjamin telling the other animals the only commandment left "all animals are equals, but some are more equals than others"
@MatthewBissonnette88 So far only only one revolution didn't end in tyranny. And that was American revolution. The French and any other, especially Russian, turned into massive butchering of innocent people. Besides "internationalist" Socialist revolutions were never meant to be peaceful. They intended to butcher millions. Considering that major socialists were never really native to the countries they messed up. Ever wonder why socialists hate patriots and nationalists?
@captaindrywall Yes, but the idea of rebelling against a monarch and establish a democratic system free of any royal yoke was revolutionary for the time. It was sort of "revolution" + independence war. Mostly independence though, I agree.
Strange way Napoleon talks is based on fact that Joseph Stalin was Georgian and had heavy Georgian accent and Russians and other people in Soviet Union could hardly understand what he was saying even when he spoke Russian.
Pigs working behind high walls is parody of Kremlin, the most important political complex of buildings in Soviet Union and now Russia, which is surrounded by very high walls
The memorial for Boxer is parody on Stalin's famous show funerals for important people he disposed off during his rule. That way he wanted to distance himself from having anything to do with false accusations imposed on them.
Farmers being surrounded by animals is parody of German soldiers being surrounded by Red Army in Stalingrad, battle which effectively decided the end of the war.
Mr. Frederick is obviously caricature of Joachim von Ribbentrop, foreign affairs minister of Nazi Germany who brokered a deal with Stalin in August 1939 that paved the way for beginning of World War Two
Napoleon's trade with sly human named Frederick is acctualy parody of Ribbentrop-Molotov pact made in August 1939 between Soviet Union and Nazi Germany.
Squeeler is obviously based on Lavrenty Beria, Stalin's most trusted and most loyal man who was one of only few who remained loyal to him until the very end.
Snowball trying to expand the animal fight on other farms is based on Leon Trotsky's dream of communist revolution in whole world, which Stalin, on whom Napoleon is based, strongly opposed it.
Animals breaking into food storage at 13:15 led by Snowball is caricature of acctual event when people of Russia burst into army food magazines in 1917 led by Leon Trotsky. This event marked the beginning of the Russian Revolution.
The novel is acctualy an tale of Soviet Union: Old Boar is Lenin, Napoleon is Stalin and Snowball is Leon Trotsky, dogs are NKVD (notorious secret police)...
@the23snake This is what happens to people who are suppressed by dictators. They all gather together, work together to "BRING DOWN" dictatorship, but instead they take their place. One part or one section of society takes the place and becomes even worse than the dictator they had taken down. This is an analogy to the second and third world countries, including mine, Kosovo.
I really want to know what happens at the end of this one, \i know that there isnt a sequel but I want to know if the power-hunger will over take them again or if Benjamin will keep it the way they believed it would be in a kind of 'memory of Boxer'.
I'm not one to comment much sometimes on videos, but I very much like this film. To me, much of the imagery and animation of this is provocative and a little bit chilling (the one scene with all the animals in the barn reacting to Old major's words "Comrades . . . Revolt!" always disturbs me [perhaps because of hindsight of what's going to happen in the rest of the story and that the animals following have no idea of how their beliefs and ignorance will be taken advantage of by corrupt pigs]).
@elizabeth789jim That's why your parents should not have brought you into this world and raised you. You're an idiot due to the fact that they are idiots. You're a person who has no worth.
