The answer is not simple, such things really happened in the territory of Germany as an act of revenge of vengance, if you want. Generally such things didnt happen on the liberated territories and if they did, there were just few. Moreover the Red army officers punished their men who commited such acts, they were prosecuted and then shot, or sent to prison.

Since then, the Soviet tanks marched again into Prague (August 1968). I don't think that even the Russian tankists then, were happy about it...so the red army had to replace the Russian tankists with others from Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. I suggest not to mention Soviet tanks in connection with Prague... today's connotation does not do much good to the memory of the Soviet tankists of WW2.

imo everyone should be grateful for what the red army did. I´m not a communist, but that does not make me hate Russia or USSR for liberating us. There were quite few occations where the red army left our partisans without armament and so on, but I would say that was kind of a payback from the times when we fought alongside nazis. About Czechs hating communism: I believe that is because: today few know how it really was.(not that is was flawless- combining demo & socialism is imo best)

The red army marched to Prague because of business. US gen. Patton being very ready on demarcation line (stratigic position just behind southern and western czech mountains where later iron curtain was installed) much earlier.
They traded us LIKE CATLE in 1938 to nazi (in exchange for world peace wich resulted in WW2) and in 1945 to comrade Stalin and his savages, in exchange for world peace which resulted in cold WW3.
Anytime they can, they sell us to slavery for profit. Peace CZ.

Yeah, Hitler and the entire ruling Nazi clique were certainly nuts and that's precisely why there isn't any reason to believe they wouldn't have done what they said they would do and get rid of all the Czech Slavs in Czech lands and replace them with Germans. Slavs should only say thanks to J. V. Stalin and the Red Army that what the Nazis would have done to those they considered "sub-humans" is purely hypothetical.

Stalin correctly considered them traitors. See? No credit to Hitlers buddy, initially, Stalin the filthy pig..What he really did (since theatrical military marches into territories already won do not count) at home and abroad is sadly not hypothetical at all. Far more "successful" then Nazis. But no western journalists were present..

@reyter2007 I am not suggesting anything. WW2 was mostly won by US & co. No wonder, given their superior forces. Red Army never fought for Prague. It fought at other places. BTW Soviets executed their own countrymen for fighting in other army than Red.. Deluding! Germans are our neighbors for ages, we share a LOT. Russians ain't, we have little in common. And yes, sorting people by nationality, ethnicity, religion etc. is wrong. Germans, Slavs or Venusians. You disagree? I'm young and idealist.

Respond to this video... by the way, that is also why the Germans can not get anything back. It's been a long time, lawless time, and there are other people living now. Besides that, after 2 hundred years of romantic nationalism in good old Europe it would be about time to abandon extremes of nationalism for good. And just for the record, there already are Germans living in these areas. As there are - again, many Czechs in Germany and Austria. Now that the Russians are gone.

So now it's the fault of the Soviet Union that Germans had to leave their lands and all their belongings behind in what is now the Czech Republic at the end of WW2? According to the Germans themselves the Red Army had to intervene and make Czechs stop the indiscriminate killings of German civilians and then they told the remaining Germans "if you want to stay we can't protect you but we can give you safe passage out" which of course all the Germans accepted.

And again, Americans could get to Prague few days before Red. But they had a deal, remember? Also Patton suggested to take his buddies downtown Moscow. Forever shame he didn't!!! That would be truly liberating. Anyway for the last time the Russians were liberating us was in 1968, so I hope they will drop by soon again. Such a fine tradition..Reckon it is more likely then historically first free elections in Russia.

@ProphetLuong This was true in Germany, but you should think of 4 years of terrible war in which 20 millions Russian citizens (yes!) were murdered by the Germans, several in the most atrocious manner. Such cases as rapes of local cicilians in the liberated countries were much fewer. I am grateful for the Soviet soldiers who saved my parents in Poland... I am not sure as to how the Americans behaved in Japan, Vietnam and even in Germany.

@ProphetLuong The mass rapes are most common cliche about the Red army. The answer is not simple, such things really happened in the territory of Germany as an act of revenge of vengance, if you want. Generally such things didnt happen on the liberated territories and if they did, there were just few. Moreover the Red army officers punished their men who commited such acts, they were prosecuted and then shot, or sent to prison.

@Petriik38 ale třeba je zajimavé, že v SSSR se normálně o pomoci US, VB normálně mluvilo a netajilo se to. V SSSR se normálně stavěly pomníky spojeneckým námořníkům, pilotům atd. Měl jsem knihu dějepisu sovětskou a normálně se tam psalo, že západ ČSR osvobodila US army.
Spíše je to v naší povaze. Dneska se zase u nás mluví, že nás osovobodili Američani, ale jak psal Petriik38 "zamlčování historie at z jedne či druhé strany neni dobré"

@HJJDIV Ano, to je pravda, ty pomniky dodnes stoji a sami rusove jsou na tuto pomoc hrdi, na to, ze bojovali, ale i umirali bok po boku. Vynikajici je dokument Velka vlastenecka valka, kde je nekolik dilu venovano prave teto pomoci.

@HJJDIV V ČSSR byla tato pomoc zamlčována a to dokonce přestože sám Stalin prohlásil, že SSSR by bez západní pomoci nepřežilo.

@Petriik38 Asi ťažko Prahu alebo ČSR oslobodili spojenecké vojská, keď došli po Plžeň a tam Stalin povedal ( keď mu ponúkli,že spojenecké vojská oslobodia dalej Česko), že toto je jeho a on to oslobodí sám. Tak sa spojenecké vojská stiahli späť za hranice. Asi tak z histórie. :)

Since then, the Soviet tanks marched again into Prague (August 1968). I don't think that even the Russian tankists then, were happy about it...so the red army had to replace the Russian tankists with others from Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan. I suggest not to mention Soviet tanks in connection with Prague... today's connotation does not do much good to the memory of the Soviet tankists of WW2.

Yes, thanks to the cowards FDR and Churchill the Red Army "liberated Prague" while Patton's Army waited in nearby Pilsen and could have easily liberated Prague. Prague was liberated by the Red Army ONLYbecause of the treacherous Yalta agreement. What followed all this for the people of Prague and Czechoslovakia? The mass murder of 50,000 civilians in Prague. Then after 1948 forty years of darkness under communism

FDR and Churchill were not cowards, they simply 'bought' the soviet propoganda and came to 'like' Stalin too much. I must say that I agree with Patton, and a later statement made by churchill, that after the surrender of the Nazis we should have marched on Moscow.

Actually Vlasov was a traitor and turncoat. There is not much heroism in trying to save your life for the last moment by one deed (the "liberation" of Prague, as you put it).

imo everyone should be grateful for what the red army did. I´m not a communist, but that does not make me hate Russia or USSR for liberating us. There were quite few occations where the red army left our partisans without armament and so on, but I would say that was kind of a payback from the times when we fought alongside nazis. About Czechs hating communism: I believe that is because: today few know how it really was.(not that is was flawless- combining demo & socialism is imo best)
