Don’t miss Beethoven’s only opera – Fidelio, a story of heroism and liberty, showing this season at the Royal Opera House with award-winning Nina Stemme.
Some say hope is a dangerous thing. However, in Beethoven's Music, it's obvious that hope is necessary for man to survive in the most difficult of times. To think Beethoven could write such hopeful Music around the time when he discovered his deafness is both inspiring and admirable. It's Music like this that reminds us that he was a human first and a genius second.
@ShinatoKawasaki So what is soo special about being human ? I'm not impressed by what I see on a daily basis. Secondly, why does there have to be any difference in being Human and also being a Genius? Doesn't the potential for one already lie within the other ?
@WarriorSage2 If Beethoven was not human, do you think he would be able to create the same Music? I think not. Humans are special because of emotions. It is because Beethoven conveyed these emotions through his Music that the Romantic Period gave rise. As for why being human is different than a genius: we are all humans, but no, we are not all geniuses. Not everyone can be a genius, for those who can be called genius are those who have reached a level that the average man cannot reach.
@ShinatoKawasaki Isn't it the uncontroled emotions of Human Beans that have created the devastation and wanton murder we see everywhere in the world today. Rather than use their Reason/Wisdon Humans again and again fall for some Emotional lies told to them by some imcompetent LEADER.Emotions by the way are the lower energy center of the body. Unless someone has a physical /neurological handicap the Genius' of all times are available to everyone. WHY BE AVERAGE ???
@WarriorSage2 Destruction results from corruption, and corruption comes from power. Ergo, those who do not know how to control their emotions will become corrupted. Thus, you cannot possibly blame emotions, but instead those who cannot control them. "Genius" is given to someone who is superiorly talented in a certain field. For Beethoven, that would be Music. Even if what you say is true and we are all talented in a certain field, the conditions need to be right to expose the talent.
@ShinatoKawasaki Point well taken on corruption. My point was more on the mindless, emotional sheep who allow themselves to be led by a sense of their own unworthiness and entitlement by promises from the corrupted. Who would it be that GIVES Genius to anyone and what is it that makes someone superiorly talented ? True a Michael Jordan, Mozart, Einstein may have started with certain talents but they choose to follow and PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE. What Genius lies within you my friend ???
@ShinatoKawasaki The human species is special for its keen mind and very unusual body foremost. And certainly not for its emotions, which it shares with even its most primitive brethren from the Animal kingdom.
@WarriorSage2 The distinction is made, I presume, to highlight that he was not simple a master of technics pulling off a fugue while asleep, but that he was a being capable of emotion and contemplation too.
I see nothing grand in today's obsession with achievements myself. I might often respect people who accomplish great things more than others, but I love all the same.
@ShinatoKawasaki It amazes me that Beethoven's music became so innovative and his creativity actually blossomed as the crisis of his deafness progressed and became more pronounced. The leap form his second to his third (Eroica) symphony is utterly amazing, and it totally coincides with the time of his Heiligenstadt Testament, where the realization of his progressive deafness is revealed. In times of trouble in my own life, I think of Beethoven. He's certainly one of my heroes.
@goPistons06 basically, the prisoners are praising how wonderful it is to be breathing outside of the dungeon. They are praising the liberty they can feel outside and in the middle part they are asking "Oh, liberty, when are you coming back to us?" They want to trust in God that He will lead them to their liberty. In the middle part and at the end, they are also realizing that they are being overheard and they are saying "speak quietly".
i think the images are HIGHLY inappropriate!!!!please, would you do us all a favour and change them.

@WarriorSage2 Because, on the average, people turn out to be on the average.
The cheekiness might infuriate you at first, but try to think about it.

@WarriorSage2 Coupled with some serious contemplation (you couldn't find a Robespierre, Hitler, or Pol Pot under dinosaurs), yes. ;)
I wouldn't say they're incompetent leaders though. I mean, as leaders they did manage quite bravourously...
