  • This ALP-44 has been out of service for a long time now. I hope NJ Transit decides to fix it.

  • What is that sound that comes as the 44 accelerates, sounds cool.

  • toaster!

  • That's a distinct K5LA.

  • That ALP-44 had a unique K5LA but it squeales at the end. When that train was excelerating the locomotive sounded like a vacuum cleaner.

  • The part I love about the ALP-44 locomotives is when they accelerate.

  • GP40-2 4112 Does not have a K5LA, I've seen pictures, It looks like a P5 or RS5T

  • Most NJT diesel's have between 3-7 cars, while the electrics usually carry between 6-12 cars.

  • sometimes electrics can have 5 rarely

  • also I saw an 8 car diesel train on the RVL

  • there was a 5 car Bi level on the NEC with ALP-44 #4422.

  • yeah there was a 4 car electric set on the ACL with a P40 and a 12 car diesel Christmas train.

  • interesting K5LA
