Situational awareness. This reporter is a tad over dramatic though. This stuff happens. The Sri Lanken A340 crew was at fault. This guy is a touch over dramatic as well. The BA 744 will be fine. You can remove the winglet and fly it with one missing on the 744. You experince a slight range reduction in what you can dispatch to but no matter. A day in the hanger and she is ready to fly.
@Learjetjock Usually its the airports fault for min guidance. The pilots are extremely well trained and these minor accidents almost never happen at the pilots behalf. Also this was the second at Hethrow that year, so i doubt it was the airline.
@Prankcafe As an airline pilot myself who flies into ramp control operated terminals constantly I disagree.... Ramp control issues instructions, the pilot follows them. There are published pathways to follow that ensure proper and effective clearnce. Once you deviate that is when the problem happens. Thats what this looks like happened.
i think its no ones falt heathrow is always a crowded airport and planes have to take off in lines and when i was leaving to come back home my plane was to leave at 8:00 to abu dhabi butdeparted at 8::57
@lankanbrawnboi Dude, winglets are thin metal and stand no chance against the think composite of any aircraft wing... Plus might I add Airlines don't make their own planes, so you can't diss the host airline of the world's busiest airport because of the boeing designed winglets.
SriLankan Airlines only uses Airbus aircraft... now you see why...

WOW Airbus is really strong! Boeing uses cheap soft material. Compared to a A340 to a 747-400 (Double decker) PWNAGE!!
wtbap26 3 years ago 6
@wtbap26 you do know boeing 747-400 is around 20 years old
