While not the best for 45lc rounds, at self defense distances it's not going to make a whole lot of difference. From my experience and what I've seen in other reviews on youtube, it sends the slug high from where you are aiming. Over 15+ yards it might be a little less than a foot high from where you are aiming. But the gun is for SD, probably 15 FEET or less, so is acceptable. .410 shells will spread, the pdx1 round holds a decent group at home SD ranges. Home or car is perfectly fine.
one more thing, for such a short barrel and all that, I'd say the gun is pretty acurate. First gun I've ever owned and I'm impressed with how acurate it is. I sure don't think it's cause I'm such a great shot iether. Like I said, it's the first gun I've ever owned and I'm almost 40.
I just bought the gun myself, 3 inch chamber, 3 inch barrel, I'll admit it was expensive, I've already gone through a box of 45 colts, and almost 50 rounds of .410s. Love the gun so far. And if youve got a job like mine, building fence in the southeast, you lose some of your warm fuzzy feelings for snakes. For one thing, snakes dont share those feelings with you.
Anyone who says that the judge is a piece of shit is sadly mistaken you cant beat 25 9mm sized ball bearings in five shots... perfect for home defense and if you think otherwise id like to ask you again when you have no chest cavity after breaking into my house
Hey I want one of 410/LC at a great price I'm also from WPB I was robbed twice in Lake Worth .Now I live in Ocala we also had 2 coral snake - 1 copper head in the garage and 1 rattle snake got in the house -plus 1 outside by the window.there's a product thats call Snake Repellant a gallon size shaker it's granule pellet's. Walmart and Kmart sell it right at Spring time in March it sell's out fast. so try it .I had no problem with snake's last year.I have a kid to but a gun might be to late.
lol how many rounds? btw the only people who bought this gun when i worked at a gun store were old guys. i dont like this gun, ive shot it and thought it was crap.
Anyone who thinks this gun is a gimmic or just a snake gun is totally mislead. This gun doesn't do any one thing great. But it does many things pretty good. PDX1 defense disks will lay you on your ass. And 45lc is very accurate for me up to 40 yards.
First time I saw one of these abortions I said "who the fuck would be stupid enough to think this is a good idea?".
I'm stunned that this shitty concept caught on, and I'm a Taurus fan.
I'd take a DA revolver in .45 Colt any day, loaded with .45 shotshells it's as good as the .410, you get 6 rounds, you have a nice smooth action without that fucked up Paul Bunyon size cylinder, and the .45 Colt doesn't have that foot long jump from the cylinder to the forcing cone, giving better accuracy.
I have to wonder how all the detractors of this gun treat their weapons. I've run about 200 rounds of everything from 3 INCH 000 buck .410 to Corbon 45 Colt+P loads through mine, and not only is it accurate, but it's performed flawlessly. I have a 3" barrel on mine and it holds a 4" group @ 25 feet w/ .45's and with 000Buck, it's devastating. It comes with a lifetime warranty, so really, what's to lose? IMO-well worth the money, and a great SELF DEFENSE piece.
@deloremy Same here. I was actually pissed that I bought this gun and then seen these videos. It wasn't until I actually went to the range with it that I was totally impressed.
I just shot this thing for the first time and I don't care what anyone says. I don't care who you are. 4 000 buck coming from this gun is going to ruin someones day. This gun is FAR from just a snake/varmint gun. And trust me. Accuracy with this gun is not an issue.
I know why your pistol's cylinder is a little loose. spinning the cylinder and then snapping it shut while its turning will cause it to happen rather quickly.
@dynastytanner I love snakes, but I have a 4 & 6 year old, they play in the yard everyday. Only coral snakes & rattle snakes are taken out to save human life. There is no more coral snake anti venom being made BTW
I've had my 3" Judge for 2 years now. Best for home defense. I load mine with 000 from Winchester, all five rounds, packed and ready to go next to my bed. I use Winchester Silver tips; costly deal but also great defense ammo. Oh, just forgot. You can also use it as car defense, just in case if a poor soul tries to carjack you. // Gainesville,FL
thanks for the review. I won't buy a home defense gun if I can't put a weapon light on it. also, more often than not, floridians kill king snakes or scarlet snakes that look a lot like coral snakes. better safe than sorry though I guess. (unless you're a harmless king snake).
It's not .45 Long Colt. It's just .45 Colt. Federal makes a 2.5 shell with buck balls. Best .410 round for that gun. It's better than the expensive pdx rounds. The 2.5 shells seem more accurate than 3 inch shell. My judge has the 4" barrel with the 3" chamber.
Neat review. My papaw used to live in Florida. He stomped on a coral snake and killed it once. He felt bad afterwards. But he killed it for the same reason you do, because they're so deadly.
I bought one today brand new; and i returned it today. I was very excited about this as a bedstand gun but it jammed every other round, cyclinder wouldnt turn and the action would get stuck. I was only shooting shot, didn't even get a chance to shoot the defensive ammo I bought. This was my first experience with a Taurus and will be my last.
I was interested in this exact model. A Judge with a rail. Then I discovered they are illegal in California. It is considered a sawed-off shotgun. MAN! THis state is hard on gun owners.
I bought one when they first came out ....I paid top dollar....this is the worst pistol I have ever bought...after a box of 45LC I couldn't pull the hammer back...I sent it back to the factory 3 times ...they couldn't fix it ....I finally sold it at a gun show for 350.00 ...cool concept....they just did not do a good job with machining it..maybe S&W will get it right
@roketman555 You really think that every judge jams like yours? Trust me, there is a reason why they are so popular. While S&W is great, their governors are overpriced. My Judge has had at least 100 rounds go through it in about a week and it is flawless.
@hoshnasi I know there was a problem post about a guy who jammed his gun shooting 3" 410 slugs. If I can't shoot slugs I'm not buying. Wait. The guy said there is a 3" inch version. OK I'm still buying. This is a gun for SELF DEFENSE bottom line. I argued all day with a cop buddy of mine who was insisting I go semi auto. Here is how I see it. I'm shooting once and I'm not missing
Judge will also fire rubber buck if you feel forgiving. Understand it will also fire type of aerial flare chambered in colt 45. This would be good for emergencies if you are in the woods and need to flag down assistance. I doubt it would have the "desired effect" if you shot someone with it though....
As for the flashlight, I would just invest in a dremel, a soldering iron, and some scrap electronics from radiosuck. It would be easy to mount a simple on off switch nearer to the thumb.
Anti venom being discontinued doesn't seem like the end of the world since coral snake bites kill via shutting down the patients lungs, so putting said patient on artificial respiration until the toxin runs out would probably work too.
.........I still wouldnt want to be bitten lol. Nice review BTW!
@thinkingman90 I thought the same thing, but after looking at the Governor a little closer, I saw the fine print. You can only shoot 45 acp in the Governor by using a moon clip, which you can do with the Judge also.
Hey you dumb dick, coral snakes dont bite people ever thats why they dont make the anti-venoum anymore. Just because something is venoumus does not mean you need to kill it. They are an indangered speices as well.
Imagine your dog playing in the back yard, and as he walking, he runs into that snake. He would wanna pay with it or smell it. That snake yould kill the dog in seconds. Uhhh
Very nice review one thing the coral snake has a twin not identical the color patterns are just slightly different unwound have to look into it because I forgot haha... Also they sell a poor mans judge which is made by cobra arms it comes in a double barrel pistol .410 they also make a .22 .410 combo pistol they are slightly rare but relatively cheap and for the combo you have to manually move the firing pin
Great review! You really don't need to blast coral snakes on sight, however. They are not particularly aggressive and will generally tolerate being handled quite a bit before biting.
i've got one of those tlr-1's on my m&p 45. It's a nice little pistol light. However i will say it looks ugly as fuck on a revolver. But looks are not whats important; especially on a firearm like that.
@weaponseducation Yea I wish i had a endless supply of money, so I could buy all of the guns that I want, unfortunately I do not lol but i will keep saving as much as i can to get the pistol i want, I might go ahead and get the XD40 and then a XDM after that, and then start buying revolvers as they are one of my favorites, again thanks for the vids they are nice to have when your trying to compare guns, and also can you give me any info on the Desert Eagle1911 45acp
The Cora Snake has a myth that the fangs will not "bite" untrue . They are not very aggressive, but if you pick up a log & there is one under it, it will snap at you. If the fang pierces your skin for a nano second , you may die, quickly. To tell a Coral Snake from a King snake remember this:
Living in Florida can be deadly...LOL. I 've had a few close calls with a few cottonmouth water moccasin's in and out of the water. Those snake are unbelievably aggresive. Correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't the coral snake take a while to puncture skin because of their fangs(or teeth) being so short. Also, alot of people mistake the coral snake for the non-poisonous king snake. Hell, I can't tell them apart. Great job on the vids. Greetings from Marion County, Florida.
I saw the Governor ad in a local shop...I would have like to been in the meeting when they named it. It sure looks like they are following Taurus especially with the name...I have to assume they wanted that association but I am surprised I guess S&W is a follower and not a leader. I don't have one of these, its probably on my list somewhere.
@nolanosam Google Coral Snake anti venom & you will see what I'm talking about. There are some viles left in Miami. A helicopter would have to get to you quick. it is hideous , but true.
@weaponseducation What gun range do you go to? Because I just found out of a place in homestead (Private property) where you could shoot all you want. Adults are $10 and kids are free. Just thought you might want to know just in case the gun range you go to sucks or you just don't like it. Oh and you could shoot rapid fire if you like.
@weaponseducation I don't know the exact location but I'll try to call someone I know tomorrow for the address. I haven't been there yet so i don't know where it is. I usually go to Trail Glades range or Ace's Gun-shop/Gun-range. I've been looking for i place like the one i mentioned in my previous comment for about a year or two. I'll message you the address when i get it. Your welcome and I hope this range is worth the drive for both of us!
great review on a nice revolver! i wish i lived in fla. by the beach.......someday!!.......A buddy of mine has a judge,as his home defense & he loves it.....I heard about "the governer" but i haven't saw 1 yet...
I'm waiting on the next name for that type of firearm. The prosecutor ? The jury? The verdict? Great info on the video. Thanks for your time and effort!
Tom, what kinda of recoil can you expect from the 410 round with that 3" barrel? On your next range vid. this would be a great gun to show off. Thanks, Dino
@adamador I'll shoot the Judge at the range next week. I'll get it on tape. It is not bad at all BTW. The only gun to stay away from is the S & W 500 Magnum if you do not like recoil!
funny fact about coral snakes, while yes they are very poisonous there not as dangerous as you think. This is because despite there poison being very potent and able to kill you pretty easily, they don't deliver all of it in one bite. In order to deliver enough poison to kill you they need to basically nibble on you for a little bit, that being said don't take them lightly, but I'm a little more afraid of water moccasins.
Your videos and their delivery are getting much better. At first, sometimes, you reminded me of the old "barker". The guy at the circus that trys to entice you to buy a sideshow ticket. But I really think your videos are some of the best and you could be the next big channel.
@weaponseducation your welcome, I think I could really detect the excitement in your voice and that you really want people to enjoy and learn from your videos. Which, is refreshing.
Have you tried putting a hogue grip on this? I have a rare model of judge, I just got it because this gun is real neat, but it has a polished stainless finish, a 2.5 chamber and a 4 inch barrel. Very rare :) I highly suggest a hogue grip on it over the "ribber" grip Taurus likes. These are great close range guns, and very powerful with the right loads... mainly the federal premium handgun ammo. I to want a 3 inch chamber judge for camping and what not esp since my judge is more of a rare gun.
@weaponseducation They seem to raise the bore axis up slightly but I have them on my 44 mag tracker as well, and it's a light gun in a real robust caliber and I found on the tracker for example during recoil the trigger guard would jam itself into my hands, and granted I have bigger hands to... but the Hogue grips has abit of meat there and gives you more of a grip over all. I'll PM you a link to a photo of my Judge with that grip on, see what you think.
(you wont get 1850ft/s out of a judge. they normaly use 20inch barrels and their guns dont have a b/c gab like a revolver does. all chrono info i could find on the judge was like 1200 to 1300 ft/s. )
been waiting for this review , very neat gun, but its the reason i cant get 410 shells for my shotgun lol, every hunter that carries a sidearm here has a judge
Nice Judge, I've got the 3" chamber, 4" barrel stainless one. I love it. I'm looking at a Governor too, but I want to wait and see if they come out with a 3" chamber model, and maybe a tad bigger too, the Gov seems like it's in the Public Defender size range.
Love the Judge. I agree, carrying it makes the nightly dog walk a lot more enjoyable. Come and get it all you wild thangs. I got somethin for ya. Enjoyed the video as always.

Sir, If i may:
Personal defense as a use is......questionable.
Don't get me wrong, any gun is better than no gun. But, if using .410, the spread is devastating. One would need to really choose targets carefully.
It would be great for putting down snakes and whatnot.

@MrTACDUDE Great, you may want to wait until I purchase the "Governor" from S & W. I'll do a comparison this summer. Thanks for watching.

If red touches yellow, it can kill a fellow
weaponseducation 10 months ago

I don't have one of these, its probably on my list somewhere.
teddycanary 10 months ago
@teddycanary I'm going to get the Smith this summer, I'll do a comparison.
weaponseducation 10 months ago
Great review Tom! Yes great gun for the varmints snakes of all kinds!Great home defense gun too.
Mr45Bullitt 10 months ago
if theres so many coral snakes why would they NOT make the anitvenom? kinda redundant eh?
nolanosam 10 months ago
@nolanosam Google Coral Snake anti venom & you will see what I'm talking about. There are some viles left in Miami. A helicopter would have to get to you quick. it is hideous , but true.
weaponseducation 10 months ago
@weaponseducation What gun range do you go to? Because I just found out of a place in homestead (Private property) where you could shoot all you want. Adults are $10 and kids are free. Just thought you might want to know just in case the gun range you go to sucks or you just don't like it. Oh and you could shoot rapid fire if you like.
ThePatriot305 10 months ago
@ThePatriot305 What is the address of that range? It is a bit of a drive for me, but I may take some of my rifles there if it is private. Thanks.
weaponseducation 10 months ago
@weaponseducation I don't know the exact location but I'll try to call someone I know tomorrow for the address. I haven't been there yet so i don't know where it is. I usually go to Trail Glades range or Ace's Gun-shop/Gun-range. I've been looking for i place like the one i mentioned in my previous comment for about a year or two. I'll message you the address when i get it. Your welcome and I hope this range is worth the drive for both of us!

@ThePatriot305 I'll meet you there when you get it all figured out. Thanks

weaponseducation 10 months ago
Tom, what kinda of recoil can you expect from the 410 round with that 3" barrel? On your next range vid. this would be a great gun to show off. Thanks, Dino
adamador 10 months ago
@adamador I'll shoot the Judge at the range next week. I'll get it on tape. It is not bad at all BTW. The only gun to stay away from is the S & W 500 Magnum if you do not like recoil!
weaponseducation 10 months ago
funny fact about coral snakes, while yes they are very poisonous there not as dangerous as you think. This is because despite there poison being very potent and able to kill you pretty easily, they don't deliver all of it in one bite. In order to deliver enough poison to kill you they need to basically nibble on you for a little bit, that being said don't take them lightly, but I'm a little more afraid of water moccasins.
pj1843 10 months ago
@pj1843 o also forgot the last and most important fact, great video, love um all keep up the great work.
pj1843 10 months ago
@pj1843 Thanks for your input. Water Moccasins are very aggressive, I agree.
weaponseducation 10 months ago

Taurus makes the Judge "Public Defender" for conceal carry. It has a shorter grip, bobbed hammer spur, 2.5" cylinder and a 2" barrel.

Your videos and their delivery are getting much better. At first, sometimes, you reminded me of the old "barker". The guy at the circus that trys to entice you to buy a sideshow ticket. But I really think your videos are some of the best and you could be the next big channel.

I to want a 3 inch chamber judge for camping and what not esp since my judge is more of a rare gun.
mrwhite4 10 months ago
@mrwhite4 I think I will try a set of hogue grips, thanks for your input!
weaponseducation 10 months ago
@weaponseducation They seem to raise the bore axis up slightly but I have them on my 44 mag tracker as well, and it's a light gun in a real robust caliber and I found on the tracker for example during recoil the trigger guard would jam itself into my hands, and granted I have bigger hands to... but the Hogue grips has abit of meat there and gives you more of a grip over all. I'll PM you a link to a photo of my Judge with that grip on, see what you think.

(you wont get 1850ft/s out of a judge. they normaly use 20inch barrels and their guns dont have a b/c gab like a revolver does. all chrono info i could find on the judge was like 1200 to 1300 ft/s. )

Nice Judge, I've got the 3" chamber, 4" barrel stainless one. I love it. I'm looking at a Governor too, but I want to wait and see if they come out with a 3" chamber model, and maybe a tad bigger too, the Gov seems like it's in the Public Defender size range.
