You can get this same look with a dvx or hvx or a xl2 for that matter. It's all about how to use the cameras settings or i guess if you're not camera saavy, how to use plugins.

Wow this is great. I've filmed at 720 at 60fps with a 7D, but I was wondering how and what program did you use to change it to exactly 24fps? The only way that I've figured out is to stretch the clip in the timeline. I'm using Sony Vegas.
@s044121 7d eos music video...Ls Centz i lost my baby..continuation of Ls voicemail on youtube...My second video i ever shot using canon 7d eos did it in one day check us out
hey i have an important question to ask you!! i hope you can answer.. i have a imac with a 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo processor and 4 gb 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.. could i edit footage in 720p and 1080i/p on my computer?? or would it be impossible... sorry i dont know too much about technical stuff and was wondering if you could help :).
@Auroraparkour you cant edit the 7d footage on any computer without transcoding it. and transcoding means to change to a differnt file type. the 7d records and outputs h.264. you cants edit that codec. you have to convert it to something else
You're good to go. I have the same computer as you do. I was worried about it, but got the 7D anyway. I have absolutely no issues with it...except the realtime editing.
That shouldn't stop you though. It's keeps up relatively well and the 7D is well worth it!
@Gzkopp Of course you can. I work with iMac 24, late 2006 model, 3GB Ram etc. I only work with full HD 1080. No problems at all. Use Final Cut for that- it's the best for Macs. Watch all my videos- they are all (starting 2009) in HD or converted from HD to H264 for Youtube.
What he means, you may not always be able to work with RAW files, which has no identity of the HD format. That's the pain of all Digital recording. I use tape so all my problems are solved, but in Camera ... no choice
you can edit with proxies if raw hd is lagging, look up 'proxy editing' on google. and 'transcoding to pro-res'? 'grading at 1080p'? This guy has no clue what the heck he's talking about.
@Gzkopp Ur specs are better than my pc and i can render higher resolution that 1080 with no problem, it just takes like 20 minutes to render a 5 minute clip that's 1080p/i
@epimetheus2k10 Agreed. This was 7D right out of the box. So I had no idea this would become so popular. I'd gladly xfer 50k hits on this horrible video to another more deserving video.
I've got some prime lenses for my 5d mk2, it makes a very capable bundle with nice shallow dof. But would you say 7D is overall the better camera (for filming) because of 24p and 60p? Im starting to feel like i bought the wrong cam. If you could have only one of these, would you choose 5d or 7d for filming?
I use a 5D for video often. It is an amazing camera. It still defeats the 7D in low light, but there are better video options on the 7D. If the 5D gets an update with the added framerates, it will be a better video cam, just with slightly more jello. If I was just taking stills, the 5D wins hands down.
I understand 24p's strobe effect, its even in big budget hollywood movies. But if jello means "cmos artefacts" or frames bending strangely, I dont understand how 24p has more jello effect than 30p if both framerates have the same exposure time. I could get it if it was because the exposure is 1/24 or something. But otherwize I wish i could understand the problem
the jello only has to do with how fast the cmos sensor is read. For more information about rolling shutter, visit this site: dvxuser(dot)com/jason/CMOS-CCD/ replace the (dot) with a period. It will give you more info on CMOS artifacts.
Thanks. I wish I was better in english, I will read the article to try and understand if my thoughts are correct. I imagined if you captured 24p @ 1/60 seconds for example, there would be no more or less jello than 30p @ 1/60 seconds. Hope this article will enlighten me
Honestly, from the testing I've been doing with the 7D, the rolling shutter is less than the SI-2k camera that shot Slumdog Millionaire, and that won the academy award for best cinematography.
Thats a good point. People, like me, might be getting to worried about specs and technical details. "pixel peepers". Forgetting about how beautiful the footage really looks nowadays. I have a 85mm F/1.2 L ii, for portraits. it will probably be really hard to focus with, but might give some very beautiful video footage too.
Do you recommend the D90 for an amateur photographer.......or should I save up and pay twice for the 7D? Is the video mode worth double the price compared to the D90's video?
The D90 is a fantastic still camera. For video alone the 7D has significant advancements. You can still get great results from the D90's video mode. So if you are primarily getting it for stills, go with the D90, its significantly cheaper.
For 24p video, it is leagues better than the D90. To me, the only comparable 24p camera to the 7D is the Red One and soon to be Red Scarlet. The picture quality is that good.
umm this could never be compared to the d90 in hd video quality...the d90 is only 720p and it is horrible...the cannon t1i is by far much better than the d90
I personally think its allways important to factor in the cost of good lenses. If you spend all your money on a good body, but have a shitty lens, you would be better off with something in the middle. At least as a general rule
Great. I'm in the weird part of youtube again.
