Un día como hoy hace 65 años llego al mundo el fundador de una de las bandas mas influyentes en la historia del rock "Roger Keith Barrett" mejor conocido como Syd Barrett fundador de Pink Floyd
Jimmy page in the same year (1967) with the yardbirds has exactly the same guitar (Fender Telecaster) with circles put on it. Who has copied the other ??
Figured since I love the modern Pink Floyd, I'd check out some of the original stuff. No offense to the Barrett fans, but this sounds god awful to me (and I'm sure to a majority of the population as well). Gilmour put it right on the money, this music is fluff, rambling incoherent nothings with too much noise, meant for acidheads of the 60's.
But hey, everyone's boat floats differently I guess....
@DonKael I respect your opinion because everyone's right to have their own. I'm not an acid head and LOVE the Barrett stuff. Don't get me wrong the Gilmour stuff is equally amazing. Pink Floyd from start to finish is just amazing.
No Syd Barrett , No Dark Side of the Moon or Wish You Were Here , as both albums were written about Syd Barrett . Without those 2 albums , especially Dark Side of the Moon , No Pink Floyd .
All the band members sound kind of crap apart from Syd Barrett who's genius, no wonder Pink Floyd never made an album as good as Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, Madcap Laughs is good too.
i love all pink floyd albums ,those on syd barret time are so good, and then without him also, its a miracle that the band without such great musician like syd always went up,,but just until now ,for many years i didnot know all that history,,,so sad the issue with syd,,,so incredible after...is just a fantasy...but why syd was not invited again ...and why they made for him so "much tribute"? ...
if I'm famous, I'll try to go to the moon. there I will carry the flag-raising ceremony Indonesia. then make a video clip of Interstellar Overdrive and Astronomy Domine. lol.
40 years on and were still paying for the 60's Syd Barrett, Jimi JHendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison all snuffed out because they had to play to stupid drug crazed hippies who exspected them to be on drugs aswell.
@villiparis why are stupid? ub think they are gone? no. they to this day they outsell shit like britney spears and their target audiance doesent make a diferemce
the '67 version is far superior to the '68 an there after versions, what a really great loss to the Floyd and the rest of us, losing Syd. R.I.P Syd in all respects.
Actually no he wasn't. He did an interview immediately after this performance that you can see right here on Youtube. Just because his music and abilities are so brilliantly far out doesn't mean that he was "wasted". The man was an absolute genius - learn to appreciate that.
I was being sarcastic when I made that comment. And you're telling me I have to appreciate that Syd was an absolute genius? Well, I already have...since the day I have been listening to his music.
Didn't quite seem like sarcasm as that's what so many people unable to appreciate his abilities reduce his music to - drug-induced rambles of sound. It's depressing. Well I'm glad that you were just being sarcastic. Hard to tell over the internet :). Cheers.
It's cool to think at this point, the greatest guitar the World has ever seen is walking around, his talent unrecognised, before he joined Floyd, Of course David Gilmour
@9540525 ...and at play; something which Syd could do like no other. He approached the creative act like a child, finger painting. Fantastic, raw and galvanizing!
First time I hear the first song of the first album of the first group that i realy loved... Crazily insanely mongolement follement fockément crazy!! O.o
I agree, but I also love the Syd albums a bit more then the new stuff.. but what roger and david did was fantastic over the last few decades its just sad how life/progress/evolution of things works out.. Im just happy the band lived on and inadvertadly this allows us to enjoy/introduce Syd to the world rather then be forgotten.
This song has to be one of the best introductions to an album that has ever been written. This version is amazing and in some ways even better than the recorded version.
Syd never left Pink Floyd. Syd was abandoned by his "friends" when the was in the middle of a psychotic breakdown. They helped him with the albums Madcap and Barrett. But they never invited him back. Nice friends...
Now, give the others their due. Syd shut them out first, you know. Before I go any further, let me say for the record that I love Syd and all of them equally. but you have to admit that there was fault on both sides. Syd was difficult, and they did try to help him, but he refused help. On the other hand, you're right, it seems callous the way they just nudged him out, replacing him with Dave and all. But look how guilty they felt about it. I think it still haunts Roger to this day.
@Dan5482 there is no doubt he is the foundation block for the floyd but what happens if they had continued to drag him round europe? complete meltdown!
they didnt abandon him. the fact that waters and gilmour produced his albums says it all. they loved him and continue to love him to this day. you cant invite back someone who has severed all links to music!
If I were still playing my guitar today, I would have created a Pink Floyd cover band that would have recreated them live during the Syd Barrett era and I would have called my band "Floyd '67".
IF only was in colour- but still cool- pre '69 Floyd was cool- along with Jimi Hendrix Xperience- in my tastes anyways-both alas checked out young tho Syd was obviously mentally vunerable-or he wouldnt have flipped.
This is MY FAVORITE You Tube clip ever. And this is a far superior version - the bit where Syd goes "Wooooooo!!" still sends chills down my spine. Drugs or no drugs he was amazing on stage.
