The Space Marines have power armour and don't need to take cover, whereas the Guardsmen are expendable, number in the millions and are never taught how to take cover. Training a marine is costly and takes ages. Getting a new IG recruit is cheap and easy.

@MrTonychester Because every side has their own individual command structure - the blood ravens take orders from their chapter master, the IG from Segmentum Command, and the SoB from... I dunno, something else. (Look up the IG and SM dialogues from dark crusade, they demonstrate it pretty well, particularly the IG assault on the SM stronghold)

In addition, the entire WH40k universe has the overriding doctrine of 'death before surrender', and 'diplomacy' isn't even in their vocabulary.

1st, the Kaurava campaign killed all the scouts that Cyrus trained (and from his reactions I can say that every scout is like a son to him).

You know this isn't the true story about Boreale's death. He didn't die from flashlights, he died from fleshlights. There was a slight typo in the astropath office that day. Apparently the guard just threw used ones at him until he drowned, which, when one has sealed armour with its own air supply, takes quite a while.
