God, I love that sound. Nothin like four TF-33-P7's at full power. It's like the airplane sings to you, happy to get aloft. Do you remeber them f-ing reduced EPR takeoffs? What a waste that was, all that chart work to save a couple of gallons of JP4. We had many good hours together. Just over 3,000 as 1st Engineer at Mc Chord.
loved the sound of those TF-33`s, love working them and running them .... saw a show on military chanel filmed at D.M. in Arizona where they were being chopped up, almost made this old Jet Mach shed a tear, worked them for 8 years at Travis during the 80s and early 90s

Did you know DC Presley? I was stationed in Da nang 67-68 with him. We crossed paths many times as I was an FE out of Charleston AFB and saw him in my travels
my Grandpa was flying a 141 over california at 800 feet when he saw a small prop plane. since it was a training mission he couldnt go above 900 feet so he decides to go under it. What he would've done to see the guys face
My Grey Lady.The Pratt's winding up,MRT,I called rotation.Fuckin' trip guys.I trust my lady.28 years later,I will fall to sleep,safe,her 33's taking me aloft.My Phoenix.
Was a maintainer at Mcguire and McChord from 77 - 85 an A and B models in the 438th and 62nd FMS'. One damn durable lady. Don't feel the kinship with the other aircraft I worked on as I still do with this one. Its been 25 years and I could still go to work today on one and remember how to operate just about all the systems. Good times back in those days on the flightline at McGuire. Thanks to all who post these videos.
A Great Airplane. I really miss it. Flew out of Charleston in the 76th MAS during the 70's. It was truely a wonderful plane and a joy to fly.
About 20 years after leaving the AF I was at a friends house at the Jersey shore. We were sitting out side and I heard that distinctive sound of those TF-33's. Without a moments hesitation I said that is a 141 and turned to see one going towards and probably into McGuire.
/watch?v=VH-KDGRwwck - Russian documentary about NATO transport aviation with English subs. Including C-141 Starlifter, C-5 Galaxy, C-17 Globemaster III.
While I was flying an AR to a KC-10 at 170 knots on the Base Sim, just barely bumping the throttles on #2 & 3 engines, was too much. I always had better luck on adjusting trim prior to AR to where the stick had to be pushed forward to maintain L.F. then I would only throttle #3 engine to maintain airspeed. I right Seated with my AC in the Left seat. What memories, and fun I had.
When I retired from the Air Force I was living in Marietta GA, home of Lockheed. I wrote a letter to the company thanking them for putting together the best piece of machineary, the C-141, by the hands of man. I thanked them for all the times the C-141 brought me safely home over so many years.
They surprised me by publishing my letter of thanks on the Front Page of their company newspaper. In 50 years of aviation I have never been a crewmember on a better aircraft than the C-141
This was the plane my dad flew for many many years, i never had the chance to do it myself but he just loved the c-141 (past away in 2003). I fly the C5 galaxy.
That was the Air Conditioner blowing very cold air into the hot humid cockpit creating a mist that looks like fog. Sometimes it got so thick we had to turn the A/C off until after takeoff.
One morning on a local training mission at Charleston AFB we wanted to see how short a takeoff roll would be at around 200,000 pounds. with Take-off-rated -thrust We set the brakes and advanced the throttles to TRT but before reaching TRT the aircraft started dragging the wheels with the brakes set, so before TRT was reached the brakes were released and we were off the ground and climbing like an elevator at 800 feet of runway.
cool! im 17 and live in charleston, i remember staring out my window as a little kid watching these planes flyover our house, shaking my mom's china set and thinking these planes were badass!
I lived in Hanahan and as we did circling approaches I could see my two year old son in his swimming pool in our backyard as we passed over around 1,000 nfeet. We passed over the Citidal many times and once ran into a flock of birds that took out our number 1 engine as we were approaching the runway.
Being at McGuire, there were lots of limitations on them when I left in 2000. But they were faster than all the HBTF Airframes, even with the reducer cones on the fuel lines. I wish they would have put the C-17 money in the C-5s and retooled the dies and made new C-141's with all the fixes.. especially what I called.. the "Boron Birds" with all the patching that was done.. both armpits, centerwing, and forward cracks at the T tail Theyd still be flying if its wasnt for Dessert Storm.
@PaganEgyptian Yes I agree,,when I was crew chiefing them during desert storm I remember they lifted the weight restrictions during the war...I also agree that they should have retooled and built more C-141's..The C-17 will never come close to being near the Aircraft the 141 was..
@PaganEgyptian Also did you know the C-17 wing root box is closer to the floor than the 141 was...Yup meaning now they have to put the long high profile stuff the 141 hauled on the C-5,,,boy that shure saves a lot a money,,NOT!!!
@PaganEgyptian And I still keep praying that they will make one flyable again just for airshows,,bad thing is there are no more donor birds left since the bone yard scraped em all...But then again the Commerative air force is flying B-17's and they dont have any donor birds,,but the parts a lot cheaper to fabricate of course..
What memories. I loved those Aircraft. I know they beat the Phantom to 10,000'. I never have seen a C-141 do an unrestricted climb though. I wonder if there is such a video showing it.

At 0:33 I thought I saw smoke coming into the cockpit? Just wondering what it actually is. I have flown on a C-141 but only as a passenger.

I flew on one from CA to Aussie. It took us a week to get there. One of the more unique moments in my life as a brat.

The vertical climb indicator was a blur.
