this is stupid. These external thermal images show only one thing: how much heat is radiated from the outer plastic. So many factors of the outer plastic can affect this; polymer composition and thickness are only two examples. This shows NO evidence of what the local temperatures are INSIDE the console, let alone how much total heat energy is created.
Summary: a console that radiates less heat could be baking the insides like a Turkey on thanksgiving
oh and another reason the xbox heat sinks only cover the cpu and the gpu were as the ps3 heat sinks go along the entire system also if u were taught in primary school then u would know that black absorbes more heat then white which reflects heat duuuhhhhhhh
obviously the ps3's are going to get hotter they have blue-ray which equals more heat, when u lay the consoles down the xbox is curved so a small amout of air can pass underneth the console, the ps3 is flat and since some dickhead had the great idea of putting the consoles on a TOWEL heat will build up, also ps3 has a builtin power pack, wifi, bluetooth, blue-ray, hard drive then obviously its gunna get hot, oh and concidering the 360 has a massive hole cut into the bottom and still overheats...

Thermal image a motorcycle chrome muffler and you will get a reading of the sky temperature and not be able to gather as much if any temperature detail. I do home inspections with a thermal camera and cant tell you how many times I paused after seeing my own reflection off foil insulation in someones attic. PS3 are not that reflective by far but a rougher surface (painters tape etc.) would be ideal.

You should have all reversed the system upside down. The disk drive is actually hiding the heat on the XBOX 360. You only see the central processor of the XBOX 360 heating.
I own a 360 but I do admit the ps3 does have a better cooling solution as the fan is in the middle of the console instead of being at the back, this helps distribute the heat better.
as cleart said, no 360 owner will admit iots a poor console, hell even my mate who ive known irl wont admit it, even though his xbox;s have rrod'd about 6 times in 2 years & my ps3 has yet to fail on me ;D
I'm not thats the one main fail that Microsoft has Im not agianst the ps3 I just dont like sony as a company bad ethics in how they do business. Microsoft forgot that pc graphic cards have fans for some time now, before the 360 released and just rushed out the hardware without proper testing. Sony had a year longer to test and realized a heating problem which was solved by a giant fan on top instead of the rear of the console, thats why a lot of mods now use fans on the side instead of behind!
