As great as Less Than Jake are, if they were paid per time bands ripped them off rather than merch sales ect they'd be alot richer than they are today :( .. Skindred, Gallows, Blink 182 to name a few - All ripped them off in their live shows, yeah sure you can't be the only band to do certain things with the crowd but soo many people think these bands are done something new when it's not, LTJ did it before them :( Credit where credit is due please :(

I reckon the biggest (most people and size) record probably would go to Less Than Jake at Leeds 2002. They literally got a continuous one around the soundtower which is way bigger than DevilDriver I'm afraid. I think DevilDriver could do it if they played Leeds and got the metal, ska and punk fans to unite for the greatest of circle pits.

I have seen Slipknot pits on youtube and laughed and I have actually seen Slayer play, less than an hour after LTJ actually, at Leeds 06 and LTJ had the better stage presence and crazier crowd on "traditional metal" day, Friday at Leeds so I don't believe the BS you are espousing because I have seen it for myself and commented on this already. We all know that bands bullshit but LTJ are one of the bands that don't anywhere near as much. Chris even said their newest album sucked and granted that they were responsible for the biggest circle-pit the festival has ever seen, and they were sent letters about it after 2002, it probably is the truth.

It's no shame to be second best to LTJ. At Leeds in 2002 (this was at a time before indie existed and Leeds and Reading catered for proper music and proper music fans) they managed to get a circle pit which went around the sound-tower. Most festival reviewers said there was about 20,000 people in that circle pit and it would break world records had there been any.

Reading and Leeds are essentially indie fests. Ska/Punk fans are just as critical of indie music as metal fans and there are probably fewer of us than metal fans. The fact that every other ska/punk act was in the Lock-up and the other "metal" (incidentely on the same day, Friday at Leeds) acts were on mainstage seems to suggest it catered far more for metal, being more mainstream, than ska/punk and yet ska/punk gigs seemed to be the craziest.

Incidentely I was at Leeds this year and saw Slayer not more than 2 hours after LTJ and LTJ got the bigger crowds, the better circle pits and the better live show and I'm not just being biased as an LTJ fan I genuinely was expecting and was excited about the supposed chaos that Slayer were going to inflict on Leeds, it didn't happen. Less Than Jake were the best act of the weekend, NO CONTEST, thus proving no-one does it quite like Less Than Jake.

There is only full on sprinting at Download because there is a shit load of room, people actually want to see Less Than Jake and hence it is packed. Less Than Jake can do both massive amounts of people and fast at the same time, check out "Denver Warped Less Than Jake Pit" and also "Montreal Liberty City Less Than Jake Pit". Generally check out warped tour videos of Less Than Jake pits and you will see how good they are.
