Also, as you said, throws actually being useful was more fun; no one wants run up to someone, risk getting hit, and perform a move that requires very near proximity to pull off but is very nearly useless. The game's Arcade mode is more fun than Classic of either Melee or Brawl. Almost all the Target Tests were fun, and Board the Platforms Test (if that's what it was called; I haven't played SSB N64 in a while so I don't remember its name too well) will always be missed by me. I'm going to have to mostly agree with you. While I admit that I personally think Melee and Brawl are overall better, in terms of art, music, features, sheer number of stages, larger and more varied character roster (and more alternate costume colors to boot), and miscellaneous implementations of creative design, the first SSB was quite incredible in its own right. Mostly for the reasons you mentioned, but also because of approach and presentation. Sure it's a bit dated, but not too b

If I may say that melee is the best game of them all Even tho it has some downfalls such as half of the characters being the same, and that the seemingly only characters that can beat the event 51 is jigglypuff and link in which I beat with myself, but there are so many stages and different ways to fight and get better but in brawl, they limit the controls and movements of the player so if a fight between brawl link and melee link were to happen, melee link would win by a wait for it ,

Of course there has been some changes that are for the worse, but over all the evolution has been AMAZING! Grow up...

@bibbisbibbis They're not improvements. The gameplay mechanics have completely shifted. What made this game so great was the ability for ridiculous combos and two words: the throw. It was awesome to damage someone so much and then try to land that finishing throw. Smash Melee/brawl throw is completely useless and sucks to use. Also smash 64 feels so light and fun to play while brawl feels heavy if anyone understands what i mean

Brawl, Melee, and 64 are all completely different games, but overall, you can become much, much better at Melee and 64 then you can at Brawl. People are still getting better at Melee, which is insane considering it's been out for what, 10 years? Brawl seems like it's peaked. I haven't notice a substantial improvement in play over the last year. Really, it's down to simplicity to master. Melee is the hardest, 64 is the second, and brawl is the easiest. That's what sets the hardcore off.

I respectfully disagree. Brawl, to me, is hands down the hardest to master. I was untouchable with Fox in Melee and Link in the 64 version. In Brawl, one can still hold a sizable advantage against the opponent, but the margin of error is much slimmer than it is in Melee/64.

Going off in a slight tangent, but I loathe the tripping feature. Absolutely moronic.
