@nickhigh123 With a brass instrument, playing with the bell under water has a similar effect to playing with all of the valves pushed down only half way. It creates a load of resistance, which is a good exercise for lung capacity and air control. Good Question!
@SheikTijl If you take care of the horns and the outer coating doesn't come off, nothing will happen. DCI horns usually wash/polish their horns when they shower before shows (aka, they actually shower with their horns).

The horns received thorough showers after this to make sure there wasn't any chlorinated water left behind. No harm done.
