OnLive is a great idea and I really wonder why so many dislike it. As a partial Mac user this is a blessing. I only buy games on $5 Fridays though. I got Mafia 2 for only $5! I also like the 30 minute free trial idea.
So true! EA is just a bunch of dicks. They ruined so many game companies and franchises (Maxis is just one example), and ONLY offer their games on Orgin, EA's Steam copy. At least OnLive was original with cloud gaming.... If I could I would buy back all of the companies EA bought just to put them out of business.
@tmcfadden23 Orgin just started not to long ago you know that right? right now a good majority of EA's games are on steam. and you must be a Black cocks fan to want to get rid of EA because we all know BF3 is going to be amazing on pc with max settings.
This is far from future of gaming. its a cute idea but i cannot top actually owning a physical copy. tryed the onlive pc version and compared it to my copy of metro running maxed out to the onlive version. mine runs and looks crisp and clean, the onlive version graphics were a lil blurry, the controls had a like a half second delay it wasent fun. this is nice if your to cheap to actually pay for a good PC, xbox or ps3
@IgotGreens101 Your WRONG! The lag and delay was from your internet connection. I have a 25 mb connection and I have no lag what so ever. And this is the future. Now I don'y have to spend my money on a $200 Xbox 360, a $25 HDMI cable, $25 for Live, and a $25 HDMI cable. And PC is worse because I would have to spend 700+ bucks to run Crysis. With OnLive all you need is a good internet connection.
@tmcfadden23 yea im wrong.....I have a 15mb/s connection thats more than fast enough to play games without lagging which i prove everytime i play bad company2 or CSS or TF2 or RIFT. so if im wrong why dont those lag then??? plus i have a RL comparison i compared metro using onlive and my version and my stomped the shit out of it. instead of paying extra for a 25mb/s connection you should cut it back to 15 like mine and then youll have more money for a xbox or a new pc.
@IgotGreens101 Because your NOT streaming those games. Keep in mind games from OnLive are NOT downloaded to your computer, their steamed in all it's high quality glory. You need a fast internet connection so games don't lag when streamed. Plus, with OnLive your not required to upgrade your software every 2 years.
@tmcfadden23 actually thanks to consoles anchoring down the gaming industry pc's dont require that much upkeep these days im about to just drop in another graphcis card after running one radeon 6850 since it came out im just buying another to make sure i can run BF3 on max settings. and that still proves my point not everyone has a 25mb/s connection like you. so while your paying extra for the 10mb/s difference from mine if you just cut that back you could easily afford a 360 or ps3.
i fnnnnn love onlive i have a 12mbps and run f.3.a.r 3 perfect on ace aspire one and i love it !!! please onlive get crysis !!! back and please oh please get resident evil games and i swear if ya get call of duty i will never own a console again!
"Never ever ever could run on a low end, sub $700 pc" - No it wont run on a low end pc but you could easily build a pc for under $700 us that would run it just fine.
Thanks to Crysis,I'll be able to go out on the street on a foggy day and say: "These graphics suck! There's not even any Anti-Aliasing! And the render distance is crap!"
Interesting, I remember hearing this idea as "the cloud". Its a great step forward, and it sounds great. I hope this takes off. Downside? I love my pc, and I love building pc's. I hope this does not affect the pc market or drive prices up for some reason if it gets big. This could rock the gaming world if it's taken seriously and they get some decent servers up.
It's a shame that this console is so under-appreciated. It seems pretty cool. Being able to play Crysis on a low end laptop, hell, even an iPhone?! I suppose you would need a fast broadband connection to be able to stream all that data between users though...
The problem with this is that video and computing technology is evolving at a much higher rate (Moore's Law, etc.) than network technology. Also, I like eking out >60 fps on my >1080p screen, without having to worry about downtimes when my cable's out.
There was just some recent controversy over comcast fees on high bandwidth services (Netflix). ISPs will do whatever they can to avoid improving infrastructure while GPU manufacturers will innovate constantly to sell new cards at cheaper prices.
I got a 20 mb connection and the games look like a 480p YouTube video with no AA stretch on my 1080p TV. Why does crysis look amazing there? I'm sure even if onlive had Crysis it still won't look that good.
The only reason this game isn't on OnLive, is because Gaytronic Arts didn't like OnLive, and didn't want to invest in their cloud gaming, so any games that are by EA were removed.
its kinda bad for me or the people that do not live on the US. A year ago my family move to Puerto Rico and sense its to far I have i huge latency, so they to fix that problem so people like can play this wonderful software
@pmfpike It works, your internet is probally too slow to support it. It also depends on where you live. For example i leave in california, 50 miles away from the santa clara servers.
@pmfpike If it's lagging, then it's your connecting. As long as you're within 1000 miles of one of their server locations, which they have spread out throughout the U.S and have a 3mb/s or higher connection and don't have any packet loss or connection flaws, this works flawlessly.
More than likely, you didn't have a good enough connection, slower DSL, dialup, capped Cable under 3mb/s will not function properly.
wow if you can get games like this than it is a good deal you can still play your aaa tittles on your console and some multiplat games on the mconsole and for 99 i might consider buying this but i aint to sure
if you have cable or fios this will play great...on DSL just pay for the higher performance version and on clear 4g...this will bridge the game between game systems.. think about how game developers will have the opportunity to have their games delivered for a smaller price which would mean more games and more work since smaller game companies really will have a platform to work from
Internet is everything that is needed really. You have good internet, you have good gaming. We how now discovered how to get about 100GB a minute through internet connections so it's just a matter of time before transmitters and receivers for this is created. I say about 1 year left.
Wait, I thought OnLive was free for sure, are they going to start doing a fee soon? I got mine when they were doing the free year deal back last June! I thought it was going to be just like steam, free account and client, but games must be bought... I'm very confused now, I know about the PlayPack deal, which is pretty much like Netflix, but I sure hope it's optional.
I've been using onlive since it started. At first it was pretty laggy but it's pretty good now. I don't know why people don't try it before they start talking crap about it. They have holiday sales for the games for like 75% off. I bought Mafia II for $25. I got my micro console for free, I just had to pay $10 for shipping and I got 2 free games. All that just for trying the service. They even got rid of the subscription fee. You don't have to buy games they also have 3 to 5 day rentals and
PERSONALY i dont think this will be ANYWHERE close to what the current consoles have right now. 1.) U HAVE to have an internet connection where a vast majority Dont and wont have internet in there homes. 2.) no1 is going to feel like they have actualy bought anything from this product if all the games are stored electroniicly. where as purchasing a game over the counter and taking it home is what it was all about. Electronicly bought games means u have nothing, and if the servers fail ur screwed
@severdnerv I don't agree on your first point, dude. The vast majority of gamers DO have an internet connection, and this is evident by the success of such gaming services such as Steam, Xbox Live, PSNetwork, hell even the Dreamcast's dailup modem was a pioneering success for the console market. For those without, then this service obviously isn't for them - They're marketing this service to people with low-end hardware.
@SyDin well ok. but another bad point is it still wont be a sucsess as MOST Isp's have Cap limits meaning with the amount of traffic your going to be using playin over this it willl cost some folk ALOT more on there current net usage and that will be a deff no for them... i alsso read up that the subscription charges are OUTRAGOUS as well so again its failing and ppl havent bought it yet.. just as a side not i prefer to actualy own my games so that i have sumthing instead of renting games.
@jordanjaloudi96 me?? lol im sorry but ur the one whos talking Mince meat pal ...Face it u know its failed its crap and its already got all this bad press and it will never beat consoles AHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAH
@severdnerv Okay, that's why I just got finished beating Kane & Lynch in Co-Op in OnLive and now I'm playing borderlands with a full community fuck nugget, they have SQL's that save data they DON'T go down because they have records and like I said POLICIES!
@AnthonyDark It's pretty much perfect for me, I use Road Runner and on Speedtest net, I get a constant 12 Mbps, OnLive requires a minimum of 3, 5 or higher is recommended. Through my eyes, that's not very demanding, I'm also on Wifi using a netbook.
i can play with a 10 mb (or lower) connection from England with little lag
so when i get a 50 mb virgin fibreoptic broadband connection and it comes to europe i will be playing no lag i think internet is evolved enough to play this if i can coonect to it from england with my shitty connection
@joealtair3000 Onlive is by far the best thing that's happened to gamers and gaming in a long, long time. It's a genious idea, and a quantum leap in technology.
@Heavykani Tech Update was talking about it about a year ago, but I never thought they'd have it this soon. What Internet speeds do you need for this to work fluidly?
@CarboneCZ Well, what happens to the good ole PC gaming? When we can mod the game files, but sadly, Onlive has the game files on another computer. Oh, and what about using trainers, and cheats for fun? Onlive isn't like PC gaming, and only has a few benefits. Now, what happens when there are, way to many people on Onlive,can there operation handle it?They will need alot of computers for that,and can they handle the amounts of money they need, to buy graphic cards?
What does it have to do with graphic cards? First half of the questions is irrelevant (for the most people anyway, they already can't do that on consoles) and the other is about their business model. I'm sure they're experienced enough to know better than we do. If it's wrong they'll fail. There are and will be other attempts.
@djb103 yea :P i tried it on my laptop using wifi. internet max speed is about 6mbps. lol and they arnt kidding when they say lowend computer. my laptop struggles with hd video and it can play this
how did you get the game

@SyDin well ok. but another bad point is it still wont be a sucsess as MOST Isp's have Cap limits meaning with the amount of traffic your going to be using playin over this it willl cost some folk ALOT more on there current net usage and that will be a deff no for them... i alsso read up that the subscription charges are OUTRAGOUS as well so again its failing and ppl havent bought it yet.. just as a side not i prefer to actualy own my games so that i have sumthing instead of renting games.

@severdnerv Okay, that's why I just got finished beating Kane & Lynch in Co-Op in OnLive and now I'm playing borderlands with a full community fuck nugget, they have SQL's that save data they DON'T go down because they have records and like I said POLICIES!
jordanjaloudi96 1 year ago
@jordanjaloudi96 this is to good to be true. whats the catch with onlive?
On3Thought 1 year ago
@On3Thought Nothing, you get a free 30 minute trial to test the game then you have the choice to rent it.
jordanjaloudi96 1 year ago
@jordanjaloudi96 the game library seems limited.
On3Thought 1 year ago
@On3Thought It will eat up your bandwith, and youll lag with online games unless you are near their server.

This will kill consoles and maybe even Pc gaming. I hope this can be streamed to laptops and just about anything with a screen :P sucks for piraters
ZetaSimsoy 1 year ago
@ZetaSimsoy when I read your comment I remembered that every thing that was said that can't be cracked/hacked it was cracked/hacked in a year or two
so don't get your hopes high because hackers can hack everything (except the air force one system that may take a couple of years)

internet connections need to evolve a little more for this to work perfect but it's an amazing idea!!
AnthonyDark 1 year ago 43
@AnthonyDark It's pretty much perfect for me, I use Road Runner and on Speedtest net, I get a constant 12 Mbps, OnLive requires a minimum of 3, 5 or higher is recommended. Through my eyes, that's not very demanding, I'm also on Wifi using a netbook.
PIKACHU49386 1 year ago
@AnthonyDark
i can play with a 10 mb (or lower) connection from England with little lag
so when i get a 50 mb virgin fibreoptic broadband connection and it comes to europe i will be playing no lag i think internet is evolved enough to play this if i can coonect to it from england with my shitty connection
OHSOGREEZY1 1 year ago
@AnthonyDark it works fine right now and they are always updating it

btw theyre accepting preorders for the micro console + controller. $99, you get the console, a controller and 1 game for free free
infernalcross 1 year ago
They should just release their software so we can purchase it and run it on our own servers/computers. That would be kick ass.

onlive is by far the best thing thats happened to gamers who cant aford all that expensive equipment
joealtair3000 1 year ago
@joealtair3000 Onlive is by far the best thing that's happened to gamers and gaming in a long, long time. It's a genious idea, and a quantum leap in technology.
Heavykani 1 year ago
@Heavykani Tech Update was talking about it about a year ago, but I never thought they'd have it this soon. What Internet speeds do you need for this to work fluidly?

i play crysis max setting with 1 gig with this stuff it is awsome
overcastgabriel 1 year ago
Looks like the the graphics card companies (ATI, and NVIDIA) are F.U.C.K.E.D
No ones gona need high end graphic cards to play games like crysis.
xy274 1 year ago
@xy274
except the companies that run the servers.
CarboneCZ 1 year ago
@CarboneCZ Well, I wasn't talking about the server companies. I care more about the graphic card companies.
xy274 1 year ago
@xy274
But those servers use graphic cards. Onlive utilizes dual Nvidia 8800, they probably have close to hundred thousand of them right now.
CarboneCZ 1 year ago
@CarboneCZ Well, what happens to the good ole PC gaming? When we can mod the game files, but sadly, Onlive has the game files on another computer. Oh, and what about using trainers, and cheats for fun? Onlive isn't like PC gaming, and only has a few benefits. Now, what happens when there are, way to many people on Onlive,can there operation handle it?They will need alot of computers for that,and can they handle the amounts of money they need, to buy graphic cards?
xy274 1 year ago
@xy274
What does it have to do with graphic cards? First half of the questions is irrelevant (for the most people anyway, they already can't do that on consoles) and the other is about their business model. I'm sure they're experienced enough to know better than we do. If it's wrong they'll fail. There are and will be other attempts.
CarboneCZ 1 year ago
@CarboneCZ I just don't want PC gaming to die. If it does, then I guess I'll have to grow up, and do something else to entertain me.
xy274 1 year ago
@xy274 i no.
hallal55 1 year ago
@xy274 go away. more people = more money = more power.
deathorb 1 year ago
@xy274 No, because Onlive still needs graphics cards to make their systems run, so they'll still have to buy from Nvidia and ATI

when they say you can play on a low-end computer, they are assuming you have high-end internet. -_-
djb103 1 year ago 36
@djb103 8 megabit internet, to run it good. Most everyone has that now.
NateN34 1 year ago
@NateN34 not me....
djb103 1 year ago
@NateN34
Yeah and 'most everyone' has a high end PC, your point?
thehalflifedude 1 year ago
@NateN34 I can run crysis at max easily. But with my 2mbps net speed I think there would be a problem.
UCBANDIT009 1 year ago
@UCBANDIT009 Yeh, to run smoothly, it requires 7-8 megabit, to run at high quality.
NateN34 1 year ago
@djb103 which is much less expensive
evolvedape10000 1 year ago
@djb103 High end internet? 5Mbps (.625MB/s) is hardly high end. Anything less is simply pathetic.
PerfectCode11 1 year ago
@djb103 yea :P i tried it on my laptop using wifi. internet max speed is about 6mbps. lol and they arnt kidding when they say lowend computer. my laptop struggles with hd video and it can play this
xlrxlr 1 year ago 11
@xlrxlr does it play on very high quality settings
