This film was one of the most epic things I have ever seen. It started epic, and kept rising in epicness until the end, at which point Shinji became so awesome that he transcended time and space and knocked Kamina out cold.

As for him and Rei: My personal theory for the reboot is this: Rei is still a clone of Yui, but Shinji is now a clone of Gendo. IT SOLVES EVERYTHING

The red ocean at the beginning; it's a result of Second Impact in Rebuild, but it distinctly mirrors the red/orange ocean from End Of Evangelion.

The scene right at the end where we see what looks like the original version of Lilith in a grave on the Moon.

The enormous red streak running across the moon's surface, mirroring the blood spray that Rei/Lilith left on the moon in End when she died.

Kaworu's line at the end of 2.0, "This time, I'll make you happy." This time?

@DeathIsABishi Don't forget that we can actually see that the Lilith on the moon has something round on the chest (the S2 Engine/Organ?) hidden under its wraps. So maybe that Lilith is actually the original EVA-01 being given new armor? That could also explain how the spear thrown by Evangelion Mark.06 at the end of 2.0 could seal off Awakened EVA-01's energy. It could very well be the real Lance of Longinus (remember, Asuka threw the real one up on the moon, where Mark.06 was built).

@kajen17 the mass of a body on the moon isn't lilith; it's the body of Eva unit 6. futsuki already stated that it's an unorthodox way of building an eva. Lilith is still under the Nerv base; as shown at the end of the movie.

Evas are built from the body of Lilith, as the base construct.

you are confusing the series with the rebuild ver. Asuka didn't throw anything in rebuild. in both the series and rebuild the real lance is use to pierce lilith

Something I've always wanted to see in this series: I would love it if they did a remake of end of evangelion, but instead of Asuka getting slaughtered, Shinji showed up and went all sickhouse on the mp evas. So Rei is a completely different being from Shinji mother, also Yui "existance" is trapped on eva-01

And I think there quite is a possibility of Shinji convincing Rei not to unite with Adam and preventing the third impact! Though he decided to go for Asuka in the original, this variation would be quite interesting. (And maybe Anno is more fond of otakus than he was back then :) )

Misatos eyes...face maybe (?) and Rei's bandages as seen from episode one...Shinji just chose them all. But earlier in EoE Asuka explained that Shinji sought after Asuka because he was afraid of Rei and Misato

Nope and nope Yu's DNA was partially used in making her body which is why she physically resembles her some, however her soul or consciousness or whatever you want to call it is Lillith so she's a composite being, besides sharing some physical characteristics with Yui she's completely different from her and Lillith. I think that what really happened during end of evangelion was Shinji imagining Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, with himself as simon, and then realizing that he could be a badass. After that, he washed up ashore, then restarted the whole eva series from the start.
