Haha..reading some of these posts are funny..ppl just throw out stats like they are fact..Luke for one,mod your fcn homework...Sammy was not in the band twice as long..wtf? It's actually just about the same time..both 11yrs..someone also wrote that Van Hagar doesn't hold up and I have to agree..it had a 80-ear
I agree Konig..a preference of one to the other sure, but I did appreciate both..As for the new VH CD...it kicks ass!! Heavy as hell! I miss MA but Wolfie is very very good. Nothing like a nephew Uncle rhythm section..ha
The Van Halen songs with Roth are better no contest, and I hate seeing Hagar trying to perform them, thank god David is back I could care less how selfish he is, Van Hagar was not the true Van Halen.
DAVID LEE ROTH SUCKS LIVE !! Check out his live shows on YouTube , you'll see what I mean . I used to be his biggest fan ,but I saw him live , WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT !
Dave's live shows are TERRIBLE !! He doesn't sing , his vocals are blabbering monotonous no melody rambling of words . He looks like an older cross dressing tranny trying to imitate a show girl , shaking his ass and prancing his poses . Trust me ! DON'T WASTE UR MONEY ON DLR !
Were any of you guys who are making these comments about who is better Sammy or Dave even adults who were buying albums and going to show's in the 80's?You guys are so quick to point out that they had so many number 1 albums w/hagar and none w/roth(like that is always really such a legitimate determination of how good an album is)dont seem to be aware that the only reason the last album w/Roth ONLY went to #2,the single Jump ONLY went to #1 was because Thriller stayed at #1 for how many months?
Anybody who thinks David Lee Roth is better than Sammy Hagar and thinks Sammy Hagar sucks should listen to both of their solo careers to decide. Damn, what a difference. Sammy Hagar had a much longer solo career and at least one hit single, I Can't Drive 55. David Lee Roth's solo career consisted of what sounded like alternative music with somebody drowning a cat. Van Halen had its high points and low points regardless of their lead singers. That includes Gary Cherone, who was good in Extreme.
@gualdomiro They're both cool. I like Van Halen more, because they're my favorite group, but what's wrong with Ozzy Osbourne? He was probably the best heavy metal artist ever, because he had a cool sounding voice and some really good guitarists with Zakk Wylde and Randy Rhoades. Also, he was in Black Sabbath, one of the most influential heavy metal groups ever, even if they're not one of my favorite heavy metal groups. Van Halen was the best hard rock group ever.
Both eras had their high and low points. Both have overrated and underrated songs. Both had hits (but who cares how many they had). I'd say both beat the Cherone era, though.
@PowerMetalEuphonist Oh, definitely. Van Halen 3 was the only album Gary Cherone made with Van Halen, and Van Halen 3 sucked. Gary Cherone wasn't even inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with the other members due to not having a very positive influence. He was in Extreme, a pretty poor music group, so that should tell you something right there. It's too bad really, because Gary Cherone is a nice guy. However, you don't make good music just by being nice. It requires talent, too.
Sammy gave the band four albums at #1 on the Billboard charts and more #1 singles. If winners are judged by popularity through sales, not just brow-bashing opinions, Sammy would win on all fronts. That said, any real VH fan knows that both the Red Rocker and DLR, in combination with the VH Brothers and MA, accomplished an amazing career of great rock music. The best to all.
@BillyVA They sold more albums under Sammy Hagar because they sold out to pop music. Eddie still jammed but how many of the tunes were about love. Guys bought it because after all it was Van Halen and the Red Rocker. Chicks bought it because it was more like Lita Ford than Ozzy Osbourne. Yes they did a tune together but it was a freaking rock ballad. Dave's tunes were about partying. If selling more albums makes you a better rock band than what does that make Miley Cyrus?
@shaggylives33 The Van Hagar album (I'm pretty sure) that had any love songs was 5150. Plus, what about "Ain't Talkin Bout Love", "I'll Wait", "Outta Love Again", "So This Is Love?", and "Little Guitars"? Unless I'm trippin on acid, those sound like some love songs from the Roth era. Btw, Van Halen has still sold more albums that Miley Cyrus.
@BillyVA bullshit...all sammy hagar albums were number 1 but the overall sales were not better then davids albums....the sammy albums may have gone number 1 but they still didnt sell better.....further more all the van halen songs played on the radio are david songs 99 percent of the time......david is better......i still like sammy though
@BillyVA Popularity and sales don't always mean the product is better. Look at today's crap like Chris Brown and Kanye West. Sammy's era was a totally different sound, softer with much more production and commercial appeal. David's era was revolutionary hard rock with inventive guitar licks and solos ruling the day. I think the early era has stood the test of time whereas the Sammy era seems dated to a particular time and place, the late 80s and synthesizer pop rock.
@123awsom Dave would be boring to party with ! He would be about himself .Those self centered assholes are depressing to be around .Sammy knows how to have fun with people .
I think it's about equal, but everyone of course prefers Roth :/ It's sad that they forget that Sammy was in the band twice as long, and produced just as many singles with 2 fewer albums.
@Luke5119 sorry DLR was the ultimate frontman, talker, singer of the group. When you hear roth, you know its van halen. Hagar didnt stand out like roth did, in anyway shape or form
might not like it, but thats why DLR was the best of the two
@Luke5119 If you want to make comparisons, compare record sales. Not one of the Van Hagar albums even came close to the individual album sales of the original band with Diamond Dave...not one! Look it up!
@JWBRU1 What's funny is that when you add up all 5 Hagar albums (i include the live one) they still haven't sold as much as just 2 Roth albums VH1 and 1984.
@Luke5119 BULLSHIT ! People that have seen Roth live think he SUCKS ! He doesn't sing the songs . I changed my mind after i saw him live twice and it SUCKED ! I saw Hagar twice and HAGAR ROCKS ! Hagar sings the songs ,has an amazing range, and I would pay to see him again !
