  • The green Outback on the track is the 4-cylinder, not the H-6 they mention.

  • People have been saying wagons are going extinct since forever but companies still make them and people are still buying them. Myth busted.

  • volvo = more luxuries = more things to go wrong subaru= simple and realibul

  • Why does he need to scream?

  • @LeoErba No more coffee for him.

  • I'm sorry, but if your not even going to take these vehicles off road and test their four wheel drive performance, there is no point in making this video.

  • My current subie is falling to pieces :(

I'll consider a Volvo wagon. I sure miss my old 240 wagon. That was a great car. A true classic.

  • i've had both Subaru and Volvo. Volvo is a much more comfy ride!

  • @bramblecino

My Subie would be a more comfy too if I use the $7,000 difference as cushions.

  • I would have the volvo hands down because the interior is so sexy and looks so high quality but the subaru's is more unappealing because of the cheep looking plastic wood .... I mean overall you do spend more time looking at the inside of the car than the outside and that 6.3sec 0-60??? HOT DAMN!!!!!

  • If you're buying new cars, a factor to consider in the pricing is that the xc70 has 50,000/5yr. basic warranty, while the outback has a 36,000/36mo. basic warranty. If you're considering used cars, I can't see that there is a significant difference between the two in price. (Just did a comparison on yahoo used cars in my area). Personally I'm hooked on volvo luxury--fantastic ride and comfortable seats that are almost orthopedic. But subarus are great cars too.

  • @outrigger777 yes, but subarus hold their value SOOOOO much better than any volvo i've ever seen. and despite warranty subarus last just as long if not longer.

  • @markhenderson123 Not meaning to dis Subaru's reliability. I thought this video from MW was the fairest comparison of the true cost of an outback and a xc70--you know, apples to apples & oranges to oranges. They just left out the warranty differences in the comparison. And the warranty does have some value. By the way, I've owned 4 Volvos and have had no significant problems. But I think Subarus are great cars too.

  • The Volvo XC 70 to me doesn't really compete with the Outback; I mean the Outback is around $7k less. The XC70 to me competes more towards the Mercedes M-Class, BMW X3, and Audi Q5. However, I feel Volvo as more of an upscale brand than a luxury brand like Buick is for the American brand. For the European autos, Volvo and perhaps Saab is a step down from the Germans Mercedes, Audi, and BMW.

  • VOLVO

  • why do all of these review videos use the ugly green and blue outbacks? they look all feminine and old person like. We have a shiny black outback, and it looks 10x better, really shiny and sporty, and the subaru symbol pops. They also forgot to mention the amazing swinging roof rack bars. And they really should've showed the outback's off road prowess.

  • @TheGoombaLover

Are you kidding me? I think the green Outback looks quite masculine.

  • @shelton705 well maybe not feminine. but i'm extremely bias to black cars, so i really can't be trusted.

  • The outback now looks like a minivan Fu**ed a golf cart. I'm a giant (literally) and cannot sit in a Subaru without folding like a pretzel. Volvo on the other hand is very comfortable, and will design a drivers area just to fit me no extra charge. As for any ride discomfort? I can add or replace shocks/struts to customize my ride quality further.

  • the outback is the best the only problem is with xm radio the screen doesnt show all of the letters when seeing the title and the artist. i prefer it over any crossover made today

  • I would take a wagon / hatchback over an SUV anytime.

  • fron seat heat has been standard on Volvo since 1981 or so...

  • I don't think the new Outback isn't much to look at, but we had one for an overnight test drive and man...the ride quality and refinement are outstanding! It's like riding in a bank vault. The CVT transmission works very well, and there was never a shortage of power from the 2.5L our tester had. Plus its seriously comfortable and roomy. I dig it!

  • subaru wins...end of story

  • Why did Subaru screw up their front ends so much? It's like all of their cars went to the toilet in the exterior design department.

  • Love the subaru we had a 03 model h6 3.0 vdc wagon now we have an overpriced rebadged Honda crv the Acura rdx. I cannot tell you how much miss the outback. Six was smooth and didn't even labor with five adults. Turbo four on the Acura revs higher just to get moving. Sad because I will have to drive the Acura in college I do not like the acuras power plant at all. Audio system is unbranded and no fake wood paneling come on that's on the camry xle.

  • But somehow you are right, people who are looking for luxury do not look to Subaru.

But maybe they should, especially i they do not care about prestige and more to long time quality and reliability, this is also luxus somehow. ;)

  • Maybe i am differnet. I especially grow up with Mercedes. S280, S380, S500, S600, E280, SLK230, SLK 320. For myself i owned a 190E 2.0, E250D, C180.

I easily could buy a Merc, BMW, Audi or Volvo again, but i do not want, since they do not offer what i am looking for and yes, they are to expensive also in my eyes, the price relation to other cars i not correct (anymore maybe) I rather spend money to Unicef and good food. :)

  • Theres no comparison here in my opinion , two very different cars in different leages, both are great but obviously Volvo will be more expensive since its a premium car , you dont compare a Volvo with a Subaru its like comparing a Toyota Camry with a Mercedes Benz , C or E class who do you think is gona be cheaper.

  • @Volvo89 C-clas is much smaller tha E-class. Outback and the Volvo are the same size. So you can compare. I did, cause im looking for such a car. The Volvo has nicer materials and a wider range of engines, but for my favor the supension is way to soft. Subaru delievers much mor fun to drive, a perfect AWD and costs a lot less.

  • @kavakava1234 i didnt say anything about the C or E class in particular i just said this test is the same as comparing a Mercedes C or E class regardless of theyre size just them separately to a japanese competitor , if your going to compare a car maker to mercedes u compare BMW , Jaguar etc , the same goes for Volvo , you dont compare a Volvo wit a subaru you compare it with a Jaguar , a BMW a Mercedes , etcc. Europeans vs Europeas , and same Price leages vs same price leages.

  • @Volvo89 But that is not the way I do! To 95% there is no difference between such cars. The remaining 5% are mostly only other surfaces and some technical gimmiks maybe. If you want to pay this, OK. I do not. It is the same like the Cayman and the 911. Most parts are exactly the same! For Porsche it is nearly no difference in production costs. But they want over 50% more money here in germany for it.

  • @kavakava1234 yeah i agree on that but on personal experience having Volvos and being previous owner of 2 Subarus . Forester and WRX i can tell you that both being great cars , Volvo does not compare with Subaru , Volvo is in another league of car so people considering to buy a Volvo are not looking to buy a Subaru as for people considering a Mercedes are not looking at Toyota , they are in different leagues , so obviously Volvo will be more expensive since its a premium car.Current S60R owner.

  • Both Subaru and Volvo are good cars, but if you buy a Volvo, you'll pay much more money for a non better car than Subaru.

I really don't understand the complains about Subaru design, specially the complains about the 2010 Outback, I really like this crossover, it is roomier, more confortable and more agresive than previous models...it is no more a ladies wagon.

  • I love the OUTBACK. Volvo is more for the elderly..lol

  • Thank you for calling what they are, "Station Wagons!"

  • 6.3 seconds! 2011 gets even more power from the T6 engine.

  • I know the subaru is better but I would have to have my eyes "removed" to buy one.

  • @DualofChaos Exactly! I was disappointed in MW. They did not mention the Outback's new hideous - uh, I mean - radical styling. And to say the era of the "station wagon" is coming to and end is rather sloppy for this fine show. Station wagons have made somewhat of a comeback in recent years. Overseas, they are more popular than the SUV.

  • There both really nice cars but I like the Volvo just a little better than the Subaru even if the Volvo looks it's out of the mid 90's.

  • I still don't understand why so many people don't like wagons, these new one are ages ahead of the one of old. Plus with a wagon you get the ride and handling of a sedan with the cargo capacity of an SUV or Crossover.

For me a wagon is the best of both worlds.

  • everything call a "crossover" is nothing but a tall station wagon.

  • I didn't get the "Tail" reference.

  • No contest Subaru more value for the "Buck"

  • @oneofthemdeals maybe, but it is UGLY, I will take the Volvo. I suspect Volvo's inline six will out last the Subaru's engine.

  • Thanks for posting this video, our local PBS channel WOSU seems to be raising money every time you turn around, and they ALWAYS, ALWAYS preempt Motorweek with a quilting, sewing or Dr. Drew show, so I miss lots of episodes.

  • I like the Volvo's booster seat feature and the Volvo is nice. But i random have the Subaru.

  • that booster seat is genius

  • @CASIUS242000 hes teh best host ever! in the car world
