Fantastic TV concert. The BBC left this in their vaults for years, got it out in early 90s and have been showing it occasionally ever since. There is also a Joni Mitchell one in the same series in which she is previewing material that was to show up on Blue.
To compose such music at such a young age! Here is an old soul, returned to earth to fill our lives with joy. No one's music has touched my soul as deeply as Neil's. I am forever grateful to ya Neil!
I'm 23 and I love music... i've been through a lot of shit in my life... these past 6 years have been like hell... the only thing I regret is never had met Mr. Young before in my short life... Such an inspiration.. so unique makes me cry in my soul.. all I can think right now is to show him and share this concert with my whole family so we can connect our emotions... WE ARE STILL RIGHT HERE... its only casttle's burning.. Thanks you Neil.. you are the best...
the one thing i see on youtube these days are "music isint the same" or "todays music sucks" people bitch about it all the time...dont get me wrong I totaly agreethat todays music totally blows BUT nobody's taking that step forward to change this generations music, as sad as it is.....we need someone who has a diffrent opinion on music and a diffrent feeling on how music should be expressed. so basically we need someone who dosent suck.
@stewartakaryan well you've just got to look for it. it would be a very sad state of affairs if there was no one who's doing that. john frusciante said that rock music has become stagnant. i agree. try something different
John frusciante is in my top three of all time musicians behind Neil and Curt Kirkwood of the meat puppets. That being said I have a lot of respect for his music even the last record with Omar awesome! but thats a really dumb thing to say. You know the old beauty is in the eye of the beholder statement the good stuff is out there if you want to hear it. I think Johns been doing to much yoga and needs a hit from the bong.
_April 30, 2010_I can't believe I found this treasurebox here either! In a word: Beautiful. I enjoy the clips often. My oldest son is terribly talented and at 27, looks so much now like our young Neil does here (so to speak) even his mannerism and humor are so closely met...I Love that!! Plays amazing guitar, composes & is self taught, too! Both Orion and Neil are most unique & talented individuals. Pretty handsome (so to speak,) too & like a treat, are The Kind!
you see, back then these old school musicians expressed what they felt with no concern what they were paid or all of the other hype crap of today. they did it out of love and heart.
I'm from an older generation I guess, that grew up with this kinda great music. Good to see the younger generation latch on. Guess they don't like the shit the radio sttions force on you. Long live Neil !!
Thanks so much for posting this BBC concert! I grew up in the 70's and my older brother was a Neil Young fan, but I have only recently begun to appreciate his music. This is a treasure!!
Neil is a treasure! What a talent. We just don't see this kind of performer these days. The late 60's and early 70's were full of strife and chaos but the music was sublime. Don't know that we'll see the likes of it again. Justin Timberlake is what we get. Bring the sexy back bring the sexy back! BRING THE MUSIC BACK!
Its a shame because I feel like there are probably artists out there now that are as good as there were back then, but the record companies dont want to gamble on their marketability.
Agree completely, Music that is considered great today is a load of shit. The problem is that the majority of the world and music lovers are idiots and are willing to listen to shit like that.
@univibe23 Sure, but we can still enjoy what was done back in the years, as well as whatever good there may be still around today (there is always some good music to discover, not topping charts, of course. Maybe fewer ones and harder to find than before). What we can't bring back is seeing those awesome artists in their prime playing live. That's true, too bad...
it's amazing how good these songs sound with one man and his instrument. neil young is a true great, no-one can touch him. the audience are hanging on his every word
Neil was always casual and he's actually laid back funny most of the time. He dresses up for a concert with a blazer, brimmed hat and jeans with the knees torn out: see Wembley 1974. I have never seen this guy in a performance clip where you could say he was spruced up; ever.
this communist government sucks. our people are more or less living dead, to allow this obscenity called the US government destroy the world with OUR unknowing hands. Oh, and by the way, for those who aren't up to speed, the north american union has been signed, which will make US, Canada, & Mexico fall under one control. Ever heard of the EU. It's fact, look it up. NWO is here, has been, but it's blinding if you open your eyes.
Yeah, I suppose it will be released and much more when they let the archives box set out they've been holding back and threatening to release time and again. $300.00 plus, U.S.
does anyone know what microphones they used in these videos. they used them in the old grey whistle test a lot in the early 70s. Are the telefunken or neumann?
Neil was pounding those keys on "A Man Needs A Maid"... an intense, powerful performance! The new "Live At Massey Hall 1971"is an awesome cd from this same time period.
Ive been listening to this song for 38yrs+ and the full impact of it has only just hit me, its so sad wooh! Thanks so much for posting it Steve and letting me have a good cry too.
@11xzxzxz No, I mean to when you said "definitely keep her till the end of time and used good soft kleenex on her aching heart and running nose. Don't ever bring her down."
