  • Power Pop Gods! Wore this eight track out

  • Awesome

  • @ 3:40 3:41 that seals the deal

    great stuff

    just flat out fun

  • cocaine

  • simply the best...

  • SuperDachsund, you got that right. Same with several of their other songs.

One last comment...on the final riffs which close out the song where the guitars go - DUM DUM DUM dadadadadadada DUMMMM...Mr. Niles had the luxury of hitting the final "DUMMMMM" just by sounding his "E" string, so as long as the note kept going he could do whatever he wanted. Here, he does that walk with his hands behind his back. On live videos he clapped or did a little dance waving his bass side-to-side. Cute.

  • Call it chicken delight

But the flesh is on the bone and she ain't givin' you a bite.

    HA!

I listened to these guys as a kid and loved 'em back then. I had no idea how suggestive some of the lyrics were. These guys kicked ass!

    Ohh I wanna hold you

Ohh and bend and fold you

    Heh. My God!

  • want to know something really special that ASIO (aka the mickey mouse club) and the australian government dont want anyone to know................go to "jenny morris she has to be loved nzoz1989" and press "see all" to find my 3 hidden comments.

  • *Last thing: in the Berton Averre interview linked with this video Averre said the Fieger used to refer to the former as his "next-door neighbor 2,000 miles away" because they grew up listening to the same music. Nice metaphor.

  • 1. It's a pity this album had so many dirty words and suggestive lyrics, because the music was excellent. 2. In all the videos I've seen, no one has expressions like the late Mr. "Peter Pan" Fieger (how many actors has he been compared to on this thread?). 3. Note how Averre, apart from being a GREAT guitarist, is Fieger's singing foil on this song*. 4. Doug Fieger (brother) and the late Bruce Gary (brother) are said to have come from abusive backgrounds;

  • @ATamandua ...and they seemed to put any pent-up emotion in their performances. (BTW, meant to say "(alcoholic) father" after Mr. Gary's name.) 5. Averre, Fieger, Fine and Ginsburg; sounds like a law firm but may have been the best. Jewish. band. ever. 6. This particular video looks most like the "Get the knack" back album cover. 7. I'd have loved to have heard the K cover the Raspberries "Go all the way", but with all their considerable musicianship I don't think they did 4-part harmony.

  • at 9 years old i preferred this flipside to my sharona!

  • I forgot about this song! Thanks!!

  • Doug, you hit it on the heat, brother...those girls back in the day didn't have sluts in the media to copy. They just slayed us with their natural appeal...

  • Karate kid on drums !! :D

  • @tigernut100 Hello Tiger!! I use to have this album...on 8-track! lol I wore that puppy OUT!!! I really need to find it again, I really do!

  • Brilliant album, Very underated. Rest In Peace Doug

  • I wish I never threw out my skinny leather tie!

  • Grew up listening to this band. What a great era for ROCK!

  • rocks! so suck it haters...

  • Underrated!!!!!!!!!!

  • Four top-notch musicians!!!!

  • Haters suck it. Awesome song. So sorry to hear of Doug's passing saw them for the last time around 7 years back and was still awesome.

  • XCLNT! I have this 45 ( this is the flip side to "My Sharona") one of my ALL time FAVES!

thanx 4 sharing (now I have to pop the cd into my car cd player!)

    :)

  • @rosemarston I have the 45 too... but the flip side is "Good Girls Dont"

  • lol this song is horrible

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • We miss Bruce and Doug terribly. R.I.P.

  • Great song. Listen to Berton Averre rips on the leads and fills. Bruce Gary was a fantastic drummer and Prescott Niles on bass was solid. Add Doug Fieger and you had an exceptionally good band.

"Get the Knack " = the summer of 1979.

  • @SunnBurn Those were the days, weren't they?

  • The Knack, Blondie and The Cars....1978 Radio Punk Rock (We didn't call it New Wave yet)

  • @duanerichardson1 not to mention The B52's

  • @ChalkBoardBathrooms

I SAID NOT TO MENTION THE B 52s!!!

  • WOW ! You can never get tired of this CD ! Most cds are bought for 1 good song and this one has many.....This is one of my Listen to this while driving.....and youll get a speeding ticket ! Thank God for Cruise Control !

  • SOOO many people have no idea how difficult these "simple little" songs are to play WELL. Ive rerecorded versions of some of these and there are alot of little nuances you can easily miss. They are decieveing and all were top players. GREAT band, great writers and a killer soloist. This is a great example. Guitars weave in and out. fun stuff. I miss rock and roll!!!!

And Doug was a perv in his lyrics. Perfect teen hormones. Great stuff!!!

  • @Daveybassify You are absolutely right. All sorts of stuff goin on in these songs. Songs that hold up, what, over 30 years later?

  • added to favorites

  • Brings back a fantastic time in my life. Not just The Knack. But also...Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, Elvis Costello, Devo, The Boomtown Rats, Gary Numan, Blondie, Cheap Trick, The Ramones, The English Beat, The Specials, The Pretenders, Madness, The Cramps, The Buggles, Ian Dury, Split Enz, Joe "King" Carasco, The Untouchables, The Producers, The Vapors, Squeeze, Translator, The Motors, The Undertones, The Waitresses...oh, I've only got so much room!

  • @poughkeepsiejohn1 Oh man........... You nailed it. Divinyl's. The look. Hells bells even some of adam ants basic work is worthy of a good listen. His guitar player (?) was badass. Siouxie and the banshees. Hello?

  • First off

    this whole song #@$%#^$ rocks!!!

The little guitar lick at the very end is pur ROCK ANNNND ROLL

has a Ronnie Woods and Faces vibe to it

and to all those haters who couldnt stand it back in '79:

    THE KNACK!!!!!!

  • Doug is great!

  • knack.com/dougmemory.htm

found this seems a good tribute to the man himself

    no spam meant

    thanks

  • This song in particular is as good as Cheap Trick

not comparing the 2 just saying that The KNack had the goods along the same pop love Beatlesfest lines as Cheap Trick

  • Those who thought THEY were too cool for school, loved to hate them

    FOOLS

    JUST FLAT OUT GOOD STUFF

    PERIOD!!

  • Does anybody remember Alvin & The Chipmunks "Chipmunk Punk" from 1980? They covered this songs & by listening to the chorus it's sounds like Alvin is singing "those faggots" - lol. I had that album & I can't believe how many good songs Alvin & the Munks took to slaughter. Quoth Gilbert Gottfried on VH1's "I Love the 80's: Strikes Back": "What the F....????"

  • rock roooockkk

  • @tigernut100 right on, brotha. I counsider get the Knack the greast Beatles album ever. That's how much i loved these guys. I play it all the way through at least 10X a year for 31 years running now. Hasn't been a better debut lp by ANY band since. Never will be either.

  • 6 months~ There should be a comment every hours for these boys...Talent cubed! T3

The time was wrong. After the Beatles..I have the Knack and The Kinks....

  • I can play this album anytime and not tire of it....and it's a helluva jam on the drums!

  • one of the greatest sophmore releases ever... I remember listening to this whole ALBUM thru and thru... great memories great music... R.I.P. Doug Fieger

  • the band killed by their own album cover photo

  • when the knack first came out! i kind of remember every one said this the beatles.

  • Anybody remember the Knuke the Knack campaign? Seems some of the bitchier, mainly California bands were jealous that he whole "New Wave" label was being co-opted by these guys, along with Cheat Prick....

Ah, music was so political then, remember mass steamrollings of disco albums, etc.????

  • LOL, I never heard this song before. I thought the poster was saying "they" were "frustrated" by The Knack.

  • agreed

  • KnackFan, you are the shit for these uploads!!!! I think Doug Fieger and The Knack are very possibly responsible for my permiscuitity in the late 80's and early 90's!!!! Friggin awesome dude!!!!! Have a good one!!!!

  • RIP Doug Fieger.

  • Ok...for all you young 'uns out there...I had "Get The Knack" on 8-Track back in '79! If you don't know what an 8-Track is...well, you needed to rent a U-Haul trailer to carry about 20 of them if you were going on a trip.

  • @6prereq me too! ...god we're old :)

  • And this is what Top-40 radio was passin' off as PUNK!!

  • Excelente cancion de los ochentera. The Knack por siempre.

  • @63suigeneris It was actually released in 1979 :)

  • Damn good band !!! They should have been much bigger than they were. I hope Youtube will succeed in providing the outlet for them to receive the credit they are actually due.

  • Seen them with their 1st album tour, Chicago 8th row. It was an amazingly clean sanatized show.

  • I can't believe I'm a 37yo. guitarist/music fan, and just now discovered these guys!!! Other than my sherona, I'd never heard the rest...WOW :D

  • @samuski36: better late than never, man. Glad to hear the great news!

Investigate these guys more and enjoy.

  • There were so many great bands back in the seventies songs of this high quality seemed like the norm. To bad there's no bands today who rock with this kind of enthusiasm and superior musicianship. Long live "The Knack".

  • There were so many great bands back in the seventies songs of this high quality seemed like the norm. To bad there's no bands today who rock with this kind of enthusiasm and superior musicianship. Long live "The Knack".

  • I played this song over and and over again when the album first came out. RIP Doug

  • lol prescott prescott prescott oh man thats all i gotta say if you knew him youd say it too

  • I was 11 years old and this album was my introduction to sex. It is the horniest album ever made. And perfect.

  • You can see he is having a realy fun time

at 1:20 - 1:41 smiling looking at his friends living his dream.

  • This was the last song on the Get The Knack debut album, and I can still remember having that feeling of, "oh man that's the last song" you really wanted to hear more. That is the true measure of a classic album! RIP Doug, and thank you for the music.

  • Agreed banjbass32 and meowfit.

  • Let's make sure the young power pop bands all have copies of "Get The Knack". This entire record is a pop masterpiece.

  • YES!!! It is a freaking masterpiece. Thank you for making me feel like I am not the only person that feels this way. A friggin' perfect pop record.

  • what a great video...

  • love the Knack...let's not forget 'She's So Selfish'...

  • I had this album. Remember all the talk about the next Beatles. I loved The Knack

  • I had this album, and specifically remember this song. R.I.P. Doug Fieger

  • @meowfit oh wow. he just passed away :/

  • Late '79 and early 80's. Ahhhhh good times. They were so Beatles-like. Raw and fresh. Just what Rock n Roll should be

  • Incredible band... They rocked the world in 1979 and I saw them play at least 14 times that year from San Francisco, Los Angeles, London and Amsterdam they were powerful and backed up their commitment to Rock n' Roll. I miss the era and the innocence of youth...Life is short and Thank you Doug Fieger. Rock and Roll will never die.

  • I like you comment ..Well said...I miss those days also

  • Here's a simple fact, this album, contained at least 6 songs that received regular air play, Sharona, Good Girl's Don't, Selfish, Frustrated,

Oh Tara and Heartbeat, who can do that anymore? just a tremendous debut album and a great band, Doug Fieger, thank you!

  • One of the best debut albums of all time, so many great songs, she's so selfish, oh Tara, and my favorite "that's what the little girls do". I feel for the youth of today, they get 'lady ga ga'!!

  • Well, I'm a teenage girl who just discovered The Knack. Or, rediscovered, rather. They're definitely in my top 5 favorite bands now. And you would be surprised how many young adults and teenagers listen to older tunes. For instance, The Clash, old metal bands, Johnny Cash... they're all very popular in MY school, anyway. Not many people I know are Knack fans, though, unfortunately...

  • See, that's my point, kid's today listening to music 20 and 30 years old, no good rock and roll coming out anymore. I don't think that you'll hear Kanye on the radio one year from now and in twenty years no will remember him at all. Long live the Knack!

  • @punkobassist Where Their T Shirt. A Great Conversation Starter!

  • RIP Doug...we will continue to Get the Knack....they owned 1979-80

  • Super Band !!! Pushed the envelope !! bordered on teen angst. old man young girl seems to always sell. Too bad they weren't recognized in the 80's when they were at their peak !!! Still love the Happy

Days video AL introducing them. PURE GENIUS!!!!! Rock ON DOUG !!!!!

  • frustrated apoteósico DEP doug

  • a total jam.....

  • i love watching doug during the last 1:20 of this song. so much fun.

  • They keep on saying Good Girls Don't was their other hit----but this is the song the stations played around here after Sharona died down.

  • You are correct about this song getting a lot of airplay.

  • Ahhhh! The MARRIAGE song! lmfao!

  • This was always my favorite song from

    The Knack.

    RIP Doug

    Cupertino, Ca.

  • I had forgotten how much this damn tune rocks. Lots of energy in the video too. RIP Doug!

  • The Music Industry has suffered a great loss with the death of Doug Fieger Many beginning guitarist will play the riffs of My Sharona just as they did with Deep Purples Richy Blackmores smoke on the water. As a fellow Guitarist and Cancer survivor. See you at the big Marshall stack in the sky someday buddy. You were an American Class Act all the way. Rob Sandera the "Wildman"

  • ooops, the girl was on the 45 cover, sorry (I had both of them) :)

  • I was 10 when My Sharona was the opening song of a thriller tv series on the italian TV. That song thrilled me for a long time, but Get The Knack was my first rock LP anyway.

The gorgeus girl on the cover visited a lot of my teenage dreams... ;)

RIP Doug, great rocker, great voice!

  • Great song and band. RIP Doug Fieger.

  • Gawd...they were a GREAT band! Prescott Niles was my personal mentor in L.A. 2008 when he listened to my original songs and gave me advice. There was NOT a weak link in this band! When I told Prescott what a great bass player he is, he made sure to honor the drummer by saying "and Bruce Gary was such a powerhouse", which is sooo true! Today, I truly mourn the passing of Doug Fieger. Today has been Knack Day for me! Thank you for posting so many Knack vids!

  • I remember in 1979 hearing this song after My Sharona,Good Girls Don't & She's So Selfish had already been getting air play. That morning I was like "oh man I gotta buy this album!" which I did that day and it has been an absolute favorite of mine since that day! The Get The Knack album cover is framed on my wall right now! RIP Doug, thank you for the music. Great talent, who will be missed.

  • "Another chicken delight....but the flesh is on the bone and she ain't giv'in you a bite"

LOL, I love it, they were dynamite.

  • THE KNACK! I was there and feeling your music back in the day. RIP Doug.

  • RIP, doug!! much love and thanks for your work, and its undue influence on my misspent youth.

  • Thanks for all the great tunes Doug!

  • R.I.P. Doug

  • I am heartbroken. RIP Doug. Best album EVER.

  • God damn this album was such a huge part of my youth. RIP Doug.

  • RIP Doug ---and thanks for the awesome music

  • RIP, Doug Fieger!

This was always my favorite track off the lp.

  • great song

  • The lead singer looks like Ari Gold.

  • Actually he looks like John Ritter, don't you think?

  • @RubHerSoul1 I doubt it, John's been dead for a while now.

  • Yes i know that, but I'm saying he looked a lot like him. That they're dead has nothing to do with it.

  • RubHerSoul1 - holy sh t, you're right! He DOES resemble Jack Tripper all the way. 4:19 am Feb.15 2010

  • see? Told ya. I miss ol' Jack Tripper too. He was great, And died way too young. Only 50 years old.

  • RubHerSoul1 - oh man, JR was hella funny. Sad he died on his daughter Stella's 5th BD . Ritter (Sept. 17, 1948 Sept. 11, 2003) was 6 days short of his 55th birthday. 5:39 am Feb. 15 2010

  • when this record came out i was 9 and i saw big displays at camelot record...i thoiught it was a threes company record and get the knack had something to do with being cool.....i guess it does.rip doug

  • davidovich69 - since I'm from NYC originally, we have seen just about every band you can think of that has played in the Garden to CBGS's & everything in between while growing up. You name it, we've seen it there. Needless to say, time marches on & I mourn the passage of my "childhood friends". The "talent" dies & the garbage remains. But then again, that's MHO. 12:22 am Feb. 16 2010

  • Ah, see, it's not just me. I always thought Feiger looked like John Ritter. I was 9 when this came out too. We got a lot in common.

  • Doug looks like another singer.. Gary Puckett from the 60's. Look up Gary Puckett And The Union Gap and see. I wonder if they aren't related.

  • thanks for posting this - great song. The Knack are one of my fave bands ever!

I grew up with their albums. As an adult I discovered some later material.

So energetic, so youthful - still sings to me now. I recall the hype and their being labelled the new Beatles! Shame they faded away. Three hits makes them no one hit wonder.

  • If they had put original cleaner versions of some their songs on the album like Good girls don't it might done even better than getting to #11

  • Comment removed

  • SO FUNNY! Not the original lyrics.....

  • Doug Fieger kinda reminds me of Chevy Chase at times!!!

other than that great band and great song!

  • the lead singer makes the weardest faces but great song

  • Yeah, I had a mad crush on him!

  • every song was better than their biggest hit.

  • Great album that still sound fresh today.

What was terrific about this LP was what the songs said...basically a no holds barred look at the trials and tribulations of teen romance/sex through the eyes of a horny teenage male...and it hit the nail on the head. Was 16 when this came out.Wish I could go back to that era.

  • @usrt46 Hey, buster...quite a few of us horny teenage _females_ identified with these songs, too! "Frustrated" in particular got me all, um, frustrated when I was 16. "Get the Knack" was just a perfect album, and seeing them live on the album tour was just amazing.

  • @bibliotekarin ..LOL! I wish we had the chance to date back then! Anyway...the whole thing is written from a guys perspective..Now if you are telling me you were the one who was doing the "teasing", I'll buy that.

  • Comment removed

  • this is cool, had not, since the other song(one hit wonder) slick

  • This was such a great album. Could have had 4-5 #1's if the record company pushed them.

  • cooooool

  • Summer of '79!

  • Junior Year !!! you had to have this album((8-track i still have) wore this out and had great times in Northern maine

  • '79....Graduated from HS.....had this album (vinyl), but taped it to 8 track, and I also STILL have it.....lmao.......Always reminds me of that Summer down Ocean City NJ chasing chicks all summer long......good stuff

  • Bruce Gary R.I.P. He was an awesome drummer.

  • This album was more than good. A fucking perfect pop record. One of my fucking favorites.

  • this album was prett good

  • Comment removed

  • My 3rd favoirte Knack song done perfectly!!! There's nothing Gay about it. These guys kicked ass back then!!!

  • @SterlingBoyd-still...well not now that dougs dead

  • All you fucks that think there is a gay element to this band (or Doug) in general...Check out yer homophobic side. These guys got more pussy (in their hayday) in a single night than you got last year. By the way, how many records has your band sold? I'll chuckle myself to sleep pondering what ridiculous answer you'll attempt to come up with. FRUSTRATED!

  • Doug makes plenty of sounds in this song, but my favorite is the "whimper" at 3:17. It perfectly conveys the emotion of what "she" does to him.

    So awesome!

  • POWER POP!

    Raspberries, Matthew Sweet, The Knack

  • This dude is WIRED

  • Wow....brings me right back to being 18 again, in the Summer of '79.

  • they were from los angeles

  • oh my GAWD! my high school years wrapped up in 5 minutes.

  • only one problem some times he looks so gay

  • MIKEWAKE13,

What? You never make faces or act weird with your friends? He's just acting silly with his buddies! Listen to the lyrics...this song BEGS for an over-the-top performance that matches the spastic vocal. Doug has a crazy streak AND the personality to pull-off just such a display of eccentricity!

"Its so gay" as a generalized derogatory remark of derision IS "so last year"...and has ALWAYS been offensive. You can do better than that...you can BE better than that. :-)

  • often hailed as the next Beatles but no way, can't happen. fun band though.

  • Great 80's band loved them then Love them now!

  • Great Video... I had never seen this before! Thanks for posting!

  • I loved this album. This is a classic tune. Doug Fieger is just awesome.

  • I had the Knack. listened to them over and over.

  • very gooooooooooooooooooood song!!!!

  • If they ever make a movie about Doug F. he will have to be played by Jim Carey.

  • Only if Will Smith is busy. . .

  • GARYG660-

Nice call...Doug is such a cut-up with all the hamming and faces...it would take a character like Carrey do do Doug justice!

  • take this album and cheap trick's budokan to the desert island and you'd be set---1979 rocks

  • I don't like guitar bands, but this is so good! Bass and guitar player are look a like (same curly father?).

  • yay someone else who likes these guys

  • still gotta get the knack!
