  • Chris Maitland was so much more of a musical mind.

  • Comment removed

  • I must dedicate this one to YOU,because it's cold...

    Waiting...

  • just cant get enough of Steven's melodic guitar solo.

  • <3 Perfect

  • I keep coming across PT videos crucifing Chris Maitland..WTF is up with that??

  • @headz51230 No idea. The guy gave some nice input in earlier albums. Lightbulb Sun for example. He simply has a different style. So called 'fans' should shut the fuck up.

  • @headz51230

I have no idea what the hell they're on about, Maitland was a great drummer and in some areas of drumming, better than Gavin.

  • y asi sonaban en 1999 (bad memories) =(

  • a fender? i thought that he always uses a PRS :P

  • @cerojase this isn't fender. This is ESP stratocaster :)

  • @cerojase He started using PRS' on "In Absentia" tour, as well as taking a second guitar player on the road (John Wesley)

  • what's the album this song is from?!?!??!?

  • LOLZ@who Gavin Harrison replaced!

  • @LucicPower You're a tool. For what PT was creating at the time, Chris was perfect. They are both great drummers that are suited for different styles. As PT became heavier, Harrison was a clearly better choice, but for the more psychedelic stuff, Maitland was the one. The ignorance of some people.

  • @NyteblitZ

dude gavin harrison could do anything he's amazing

  • @znoahmarhoadskill I'm not denying that he couldn't do anything, but for the psychedelia and simplicity that PT had during the early years, Maitland was perfect. And if that guy below wants to get even technical on this particular song's drumming, if you have the Star's Die Delirium Years CD's, and you look in the pamphlet, Steven Wilson told him specifically to have an extremely simple drum beat, thus to accentuate the guitar and lyrical aspects of it. Plus he's up there, and we're not.

  • @NyteblitZ I totally agree with you, and I'm a drummer. I actually prefer Chris' drumming to Gavin's when Gavin plays old PT stuff. Something about how Chris feels the songs just appeals more to me, and he really knows the songs inside and out. I listened to Gavin on the new Anesthetize DVD playing old PT tunes that Chris was originally on, and Gavin just over-played in my opinion. Chris knew how to keep it simple, but make it interesting when needed. ie: dislocated day.

  • @pinkfloydfan417 Yeah I agree on the over-playing part. On a comparison of the two, the one that comes to mind is Shes moved on. Chris has a great feel for the music, but I don't think he would have been really suited for the more heavy/progressive stuff, but who knows.

  • @LucicPower Listen to Dislocated Day on Coma Divine.

    Then talk.

    Dipshit.

  • gff665: he's using a flanger and reverb in the beginning and a wah-wah/ echo for the solo

  • solo is soooooooooo sick!!!!!!!!!!

  • I Don't whose cooler Steve on guitar or Col on Bass

  • @1codger col on base lol

  • I don't mind live photography. It is an art form within its self and certainly captures truely epic live moments. However mobile photography is absolutely pointless, you'll get really poor quality pictures even with a high spec camera phone. I had a person next to me at a PT show and they were clicking away at their mobile phones and almost distroyed my enjoyment of the show.

    Leave it to the professionals.

  • from which album is that song?

  • @kojikuto Signify (1996)

  • @kojikuto signify

  • @kojikuto Signify

  • Very Beutiful. What is guitar effects this it? He plays solo on guitar, very beutiful effekct, this is David Gilmour effect?

  • @gff665 sounds like delay, some reverb, maybe a little fixed wah too.

  • Chris has such an emotional voice, really shows in his live performances.. God, I miss him.

  • dude, with GAVIN HARRISON it's kinda hard to miss mr maitland :-)

  • Not at all. Gavin completely changed the band from psychedelic to prog. I miss that every hour of every day. :(

  • @raginghormonez no, Maitland was great and still is... he had that psychedelic sound pt was lookin for at that time.... now that they´re after some heavier sound they´ve got the perfect drummer to fit that style.... but that doesen´t mean maitland´s work was worse that garrison´s

  • without the PRS...:)

  • flashes damage SW's shiny hair.

Should this happen, the tour must be cancelled.

And no tour, means no money, which means no hair conditioner nor nutritive hair oil.

  • Just Listen to the music and don't let you be distracted by your camera or mobile phone... your ruining your money..

  • I love PT and the musicianship behind it..but i'm a bit scared that they're full of themselves or at least Steven specially since the last show i saw when "they" requested that no photography of any kind should take place during their set..i know if i had fans i would love it if my fans were taking pics of myself and the band..what kind of shit is that?

  • they think it's distracting and disrespectful to have a bunch of cameras in their faces while they're trying to play their music for people. it makes sense. they're not full of themselves i just think steven wilson takes himself very seriously haha

  • its also because it can be rally annoying if the guy infront of u is taking a video or pic, cause then u have a camera in ur face for the whole show.

  • @eviilgrin: I understand what you mean but there's a why behind their decision, from what I've heard in the past someone taped them and sold the videos.

  • @eviilgrin Yeah, its very distracting...

  • great!!!

  • The video quality is lame, but who cares? Hell, this is Porcupine Tree!

  • one of the best rock bands and coma divide best live album ever

  • @tasosdio68

Coma Divine is one of the best next to King Crimson's Absent Lovers 1984 :)

  • CHRIS MAITLAND IS A GREAT DRUMMER!!

  • true.:)

  • i like this version way better than the album one, i hope i can download it

  • ooh, Stevo's using an AC30...... Top man!

One of the finest guitarists out there

  • How the hell is he getting that amazing tone from his guitar? :|

    Beautiful solo.

  • SW is the mazter of amazing tones!

  • Wish i could play slide only about half as good as Steven does in that solo section. What kind of wider looking slide is that he uses? Maybe that has something to do with the ease of sustain he gets, thus making it easier to play without having to use a finger as a capo above the slide.

  • It's not even an actual slide. It's a modified napkin ring that Steven made when he was fifteen. He considers it his most valued guitar possession.

Search "Steven Wilson Discusses Slide Guitar"

  • I could listen to Opeth and Porcupine Tree for months at a time without anything else. I love the solo in his song. Cool video.

  • i wish people would hear this band

  • Yeah they're still a band. Although Steven Wilson is involved in a load of other projects and a solo project as well, so I don't know when they're playing or recording again.

  • The new album coming out 22nd of September, called "The Incident". They've recorded it and will be touring the US in september and Europe in October. Here you are :)

  • the 14th actually

  • Yeah, they've changed it, but at the time I typed that message it still was the 22nd :)

  • i figured you knew i just thought i'd put that there in case others didn't.

  • Correction, it was originally that date, now it's the 14th of September.

  • And the UK in December. I've booked my ticket for the Glasgow show on the 11th. Yee-hah!!!!!

  • i just got into these guys, can any one tell me if there still a band

  • Yes, they have a new album coming out this fall and are already selling tickets for the fall tour.

  • holy shit. i didn't know that. i will have to look into it.

  • @opti95 YEAH OFCOURE just go to porcupine tree . com, you wont regret it!

  • who'd he dedicate it to?

  • I love this song, and these times of space PT!!

  • Let's all show our friends porcupine tree!

We need to promote this music!

  • my friend introduced me to p.t a while ago nd im loving them ay,

  • Chris Maitland is a GREAT drummer, I love his style and creativity. Gavin Harrison is just a perfect and very very fine drummer, but Chris is a fantastic drummer....

  • IS LIKE KISSDEVILASS

  • <3 steven wilson

  • wow thanks for posting this... in 1999 PT was the best band well they are stilll...

  • good old nineties..

  • Excelent!!

  • I was waiting so long to see 'waiting' :)

  • Thanx, great post!!

  • great!

  • good old chris M

  • Chris Maitland is a finaminal drummer, i dont know why he doesnt get given enough credit.

  • lol phenomenal*

all these guys are amazing. I don't know why there not so well known in the states..

  • because most people have a terrible taste in music

  • that's definitely true.

  • yes it is lol, most people are too thick to realize what music actually is (my definition is - a collective of related sounds which evoke an emotion" does "bitch get low" or "go shorty" evoke an emotion?? and another sad fact of the human race is that they seem to listen to music because of tonality, well i mean if they heard any classical music in a different tone, say electric violins with distortion it wld suddenly be a bad song, its saddening, music is the most misunderstood thing in history

  • haha i like your examples. yeah american music is altogether ridiculous. almost all of my friends are into underoath and other screamo bands. in my opinion, screamo is by far the worst style of music. it's simple, all sounds the same, and is just obnoxious. the way they sing too. its like they are crying. and the screamers don't even know how to sing to begin with. that's why they scream. well they are always bitching about something. lol, rap shouldn't even be classified as music.

  • not "all" screamo don't know how to sing.. Mikael Akerfeldt from OPETH sing quite nice..

  • I wouldn't say Opeth is screamo. they actually have some tunes i like, although I'm not really into harsh vocals.... screamo is like underoath, atreyu, and other crap like that.

  • Is Textures screamo then ? x)

  • nah... they have some complex stuff although i'm not really a fan of them. screamo is :

    simple

    annoying

    uneducated

    stupid

Textures seem to have their own thing going on in my opinion.

  • replace "screamo" with "seventeen year olds"

  • what? I'm seventeen.

  • Akerfeldt grunts, that's not screamo. Grunting is typical for death metal. Screamo is used in bands like Rise Against and The Used (more hardcore punk).

  • Mikael Akerfeldt is a genius

  • @jazzychristopher nobody can sing better than steve and mikael NOBODY!

  • i'm into classical, prog, and classic rock. I can play several instruments too. I wish porcupine tree would like.. show up in history as one of the most creative bands out there. there stuff is like mad fun to play, and so relaxing to listen to.

  • yea....you can only wish such things :P btw if u havent checked out Opeth yet u should definately they are just as amazing as PT

  • Stunningly beautiful. I don't get why this doesn't have more views..

  • thank u for putting this up dude... i love this song and this band.
