  • oddly enough, I really enjoyed this. I think it was an interesting video with a good soundtrack. Practical capabilities and the plausibility can be discussed by those for whom this is a profession. As an inside-looking outsider I think it was very cool.

    However. CIWS doesn't fire randomly and continuously like it showed.

     I'm not saying that 0 missiles would get through if multiple boogies were inbound but...

  • Unfortunately, even with a full Aegis suit on two cruisers, and typically 4 destroyers, that could detect the missiles at range, and open fire, it is dificult to engage with missiles.

    Outfitted on a typical Aegis ship equiped for AA defense is 61 long range AA missiles, 48 short range AA missiles, 2 CWIS cannons, and multiple 25mm and .50 cal machine guns.

    But with a missile closing at mach 2, you have seconds after the guns come in range to impact...its basically a last ditch effort.

  • What makes you think a US strike group typically carries 6 AEGIS ships? Because they don't.

  • In an ideal world, the enemy missiles probably would've first detected and at least SOME would've been destroyed just after breaching the surface, thanks to the Carrier's own aircraft. Then, missiles from the guided missile destroyers and frigates would've fired more than enough rounds from their VLS systems to intercept the rest of them. Not even to mention that each ship has more than one CWIS each holding a couple thousand rounds. The carrier herself has CWIS and Sea Sparrows, too.

    Red=#FF0000 Blue=#0000FF green=#00FF00

  • defending vessels with names based on japanese rock songs? defending vessels that all look identical, and yet radar shows "CV" (carrier vessel) for some, and "DDH" (heavy destroyer) for others radar echo of identical size? ... :) ... But that is not the point. The point is , this is GREAT animation! Good job!

  • A very good simulation, however, it should be noted that ships are never this close together unless they're posing for a picture. Combat formations are spread across a couple miles, and also have combat air patrols further out.

    I'd like to see what would happen with a more realistic arrangement of forces, if that can be done in this simulator.

  • It should also be noted that it is not lined up one missile per ship, but usually 12-34 missiles per each ship

  • Uhhh..I'm pretty sure with the power of AA guns these days, the missiles would be detected the moment they're launched from the sub and destroyed not long after. Especially with a gun like that in RigidChips, the missiles would encounter a sudden wall of bullets. To me, that's like Rigid's Metal Storm.

  • Ignorant Bastard, This Is RigidChips,the time and skill needed to pull this off is outstanding, id expect 20-30 pages of scripts and the such just for the missiles. I don't see you doing better. In rigid chips, there are bullets supplied by parts called ARM Chips but the things that are being fired are Harmless 3D lines

  • i can promise you that ciws wuld not miss like that. the path that those missiles were flying wulda been intercepted by at least a few of the 150 round burst (not constant fire), which wuld mess up the missiles integrity, making the missile destroy itself. plus, ciws is extremely accurate,, and very few of those ships wuld fired their ciws, and they forgot other lines of defense that we have. who ever made this don't know their weapon systems, and is retarded

    and have it done. you have to SCRIPT IT.

  • Ah yah one CIWS can shoot down 3 81mm mortar rounds in one engagement(seen the video) so I think a few missles a whole lot larger will get hit by multiple CIWS's.
