@m0ogy Hi Dave. By calling it a downgrade I wasn't calling it inferior, I was just saying it couldn't match the power rating of the ABS and therefore I could not invest in it. The antenna is probably superior to the ABS in many ways but not in the wattage rating. I need to upgrade to something superior than what I am using and thats not the Sirio. Here in the USA power level used are routinely in the 500 to 1KW range, with shootouts seeing stations with power levels in excess of 10KW to 50KW. 73
I like the SGM very much. Unfortunatly I cannot buy one to do primary duty here like my ABS-1600 due to the lack of power handling. It cannot handle more than 400 watts. Power levels here at the shack far exceeds that rating at times so I cannot buy what I consider a downgrade. My ABS-1600 handles 4000 watts so even tho I like it I can't buy it. The antenna looks awesome tho. I am sure it will perform and be a winner on the airwaves. 73 de Dino N0RJP
@m0ogy for 200$ in usa price u should not have to spend another penny to upgrade anything!!!!!! stick with the imax 2000 or abs in my book even a cheap a99 can handle 500 watts serio is money hungry
i just took delivery of one of these antenna's and will put it up in the spring. A QUESTION FIRST! there are two red cable's which screw together and the black wire that goes to the top of the antenna but there is another wire black cable that is shielded, were does that go?
Looks good, but also quite a bit of messing with wires and clips. This is why I love Antron's, just screw the three sections together, throw it on a pole and the job is done. Cracking for taking on a hill mobile too.
@NitroMaximus not a real fan of fiberglass antenna's but it looks as nice as a Imax2000 or Bandit or Antron,or the others......if you got the cash and the room..try a zerofive or a or a Jo Gunn Son of a Gunn..Of course there made in USA and might not meet the standards of you and your mate's...what would U.S.A know about 11 meter...Heck we use the bloody freq in our WWII Tanks....:)
I would go for this antenna for 3 reasons: 1. Its european made, you can see on the website of sirio how this antenna is made in their buildings. 2. Test show that you gain 1 to 2 s points. You have know in order to gain 1s you have to DOUBLE the output power of your TX; thus 4w x 2 = 8w 1 s more, 8w x 2 = 16w 2 s more. 3. Sirio is really innovating and they need the money to carry on for future antenna designs !!
@TheZeke1974 It is (just) check out the stir it's causing on the "World Wide Radio Forum". A handful of Americans are conducting tests...........to their amazement!!....LOL
@pepsiholic2008 I think Knights and other dealers will stock them. Most are asking £139. Mine was shipped direct from Sirio in Italy prior launch. Please check out Part 3 now on Youtube.
@heavythrashmetal2 Its maybe a domestic item causing the problem. The Antron 99 is prone to picking up some static at times..........but thats seems like interferance for sure.
This is the new multi band vertical Ive ordered ,our local radio club has used them and they seem to be really good, cant wait not long now, infact lots of the members have ordered them as the results on a field test were brilliant
@darynsax Hello Mate........I think your mixed up with the Snowdonia HF vertical . The Sirio is only just becoming available and works between 25.5 MHZ - 30MHZ only. With the tests I've heard about .......this thing "Rocks"........73's Dave M0OGY.
I Can't Wait For The Performance Testing Video Because I Want To Buy One Before They Start To Manufacture This In F***ink China And Lose The Quality Of The Original European Product.
I might consider treating the bottom of each of the fiberglass pieces (which sink into the next lower tube) with liquid electrical tape so when assembled an effective water seal is introduced. Good choice of music! - "I can see it coming IN THE AIR tonight... "
I'd like to see it compared to the Imax 2000 & the I-10K.
It should be the best thing since sliced bread because they claim to have figured out how to eliminate the lower out-of-phase 1/8 wave length found on your typical 5/8, & have brought that back into the center of the current maximum, effectively stretching & balancing the current to covering a full 5/8 wave length in vertical area instead of only the top 1/2.
It's the first really NEW idea to come along in decades, I dig it!
@ic751a55 Hello, nice to meet you. It's nice to see that a few do understand the concept of this antenna and not shout "Snake Oil" that some do when they don't understand. I don't own an Imax 2000( it would soon snap with our high winds) or the 1-10K or a Coily Excalibur for that matter (not that I wouldn't mind!!). But I do own a 5/8th wave Shakesphere "Big Stick" with a radial system and earthed into Rock salt. I do intend doing side by side tests soon against this "Bad Boy".
@m0ogy Oh, the 'Army Stick'? That's one antenna I've always wanted to try but didn't buy when they were available and now I can't find to try out. I have heard good things and the fact they aren't around for sale used either speaks to their high quality and/or there may nt have been many produced before they were discontinued.
I hope it's soon a moot point in that I expect the Sirio shall rather impolitely plant it's Italian foot well into that Shakespear's little posterior!
@ic751a55 Where are you located Mate??. If you check my Youtube channel ,you will see my Army Stick, It was made in 1999 and I have put a decent video about it and its mods up there. So if it does beat this, I'll be well inpressed. Shakesphere made CB antennas for many years and stopped because of costs I think. They do make Military and Marine antennas still. Most owners keep hold of them ,as there very good.
@26FB1001 Yes first inpressions are very good. The build Quality is far better than an A99 for a start. If it peforms like my Shakesphere I think Sirio have a winner on their hands for sure Mate.
I respect your opinion, but I own the SGM and think it is a far higher pereforming antenna.
I have owned all the antennas you mentioned.

@TheLASERJAW Hello Dino ,I hope your OK.
I think classing this a downgrade is very untrue.....I'm a Shakesphere ABS1600 user and love it to bits, but the SGM works so much better.
On The WWRF there is an upgrade mod that lets you run 1.5KW with ease.
Maybe the guys at Sirio need to upgrade it now for more power.

@24nov67 It shows quite clearly in the instructions....if it's the one I think it is, it slides down inside the fibreglass tube in free space.

@DiskoKing Yes the SGM does take some building.......but the rewards are worth the extra work.
The A99 is in a different ball park to this, really can't compare the two for performance. (I have owned A99 too).
This year I am going to use the Sigma Eurocom 5/8 wave for hilltopping this is dead easy as your antenna to build.

Against my SIRIO 827 which we had a signal check of 7.5 down into penzance, we then took the 827 down and put the GAINMASTER in exactly the same spot.
an awesome test.
rechecked and the signal was exactly the same down into penzance, we did notice 1/2 an S point better on receive but that was it.
A well built antenna but that's it, I see no benefits.
