  • Came across this by accident but it has made my day. Great inspiration to use for our youth. Top sportsmen . Great role models guys . Thanks for the post.

  • "I'm not behind but dey look nerfed" WTF

  • F&CK YEAH!!!!!!! Greatest race of all time. Was so damn proud to be an Aussie that night (well always really but you get my point). Awesome video. Am going for a run now this has motivated me.

  • Awesome music choice.

I'm an idiot, this happened over 10 years ago and I'm still watching this thinking 'c'mon, c'mon, c'mon'...

  • Best video I have ever seen.

  • @TheSwimmingWorld.... you are also wrong re the commentary. He definitely 100% says "A Gold Medalist Earlier Tonight"....

  • @adamngakiri It really does sound as intervine to me. I can't place earlier as there is one syllable more..

  • @TheSwimmingworld Its "A gold medalist earlier tonight", im 100% sure ^.^

  • @Niiiiization Not convinced :D

  • @TheSwimmingworld Meh :D I have no doubts.

  • This video is epic in all ways. The images are epic, the swimmers are epic, the commentators are epic and the music... couldn't fit any more perfectly.

    EPIC

  • DON'T FUCK WITH OUR SWIMMERS!

  • tell him to take off the full body suit, what a woman. and best sporting video you've ever seen? Why don't you watch the 2008 4x100 free relay where jason leak, who is in his 30's and TRAINS HIMSELF took down bernard

  • What can the champ muster,

A Gold medal is building here tonight,

    Now he's digging deep,

    The crowd is roaring,

    Their hero is coming on,

    Will it be a fairytale,

Thorpe is gunning it after Hall...

    You can't script that stuff

  • @heydylandylandylan Nice try at translating mate, but I think u made a litle mistake. The commentator says:" a gold medalist can only intervine". Refering to Thorpe's 400m freestyle gold earlier that evening. Not "A gold medal is builing here tonight". U're right though awesome race with awesome commentary.

  • adrenaline pumping amte gr8 video

  • Next year we're bringing the 4x100 free gold back to Australia where it belongs!!

  • This gave me goosbumps the hole way through

  • estoy deseando ver el año que viene en las olimpiadas de londres, duelo entre lochte, phelps y thorpe, puede ser muy grande

  • This was an amazing event in a magnificent team effort in the pool for the Australian's at their home Olympics. I've always though that the American final leg swimmer, Garry Hall Jnr won this race for the Australian's with his big mouth. Ohhh the sweet irony that he was the swimmer that lost it for the US. lol. Well done. Great vid.

  • and the world collectively celebrated with australia as america lost and the air guitars commenced, effectively saying 'FUCK YOU' to the states

  • dennis commetti (Y) best commentator

  • what kind of a suit were they using i know it was a full body tech suit but, what brand and model?

  • @M3Fswimmer speedo Fast skin mach 1 and thorpey had the adidas full body suit.

This race is probably the best sporting spectacle in olympic history

  • @youbetzler thank ya :D

  • This is one of those events where I really wish I was in the crowd! It would have been wild!

  • This is seriously the best video on You Tube.

  • Comment removed

  • What a race, this was... Klim and thorpedo just killed it!! Sooo inspirational. Let me tell you, I am an Indian, but every once a while I come and watch this video to give me some inspiration, and to give me boost in my pursuits- I was very young when I watched this on TV and read about this in the newspapers... it is one of those events which truly epitomizes the essence of competition in sports !!

  • @bubudeals - Well said mate. Well said.

  • gonna smash em like guitars LOL

  • BARNSTAR what a quality video, so inspirational, i used to swim for my county so i was good but not pro,and before every meet i would watch this video and feel like i would go and smash records. KLIM what a beast ,really would have loved to have been in sydney for this, but thanks to you i have this wicked video always to look at and smile if im having a bad day. I have been visiting this page for years !!! AND STILL GET A BUZZ EVERYTIME I WATCH !!!!!!!!

  • @TheDeanbean123 - Thanks mate, I'm glad it helped motivate you. Even Eamon Sullivan used to watch it to pump himself up before a big race. It was a truly amazing race. I'm glad the clip still inspires people. I still get shivers up my spine when I watch it.

  • this started my love 4 swimming, i remember watching it on t.v when i was 3 and from then on ive been determined to b an international swimmer. thank u klim, callus, fydler and thorpe 4 d inspriation (:

  • Biggest battle, what I have ever seen in my life. Last 30 m is unbelievable. I'm grateful for watched it in live! THANK YOU Australia!

  • I hope Thorpie and Klim are using this as medicine for London 2012... What a brilliant moment in Aussie sporting history. I will never forget this as long as I live... Makes me so damn proud to be an Aussie.

  • Smashed 'em like guitars!!!!!

  • Ian plays guitar like drums 3:33

  • awesome video, i love this race.

  • Such an epic race!

  • Thorpe is God. Definitely.

  • My boyfriend and I watch this almost once a week (especially him-he's been mad about this video since the day I met him...two years ago) :) because of the great combination with the song.

    So thank you!

  • @crinoline88 - It's a pretty effective motivator before racing :) Glad you both like it. It was an amazing race :)

  • Probably the greatest sporting video I've ever seen.

  • @Jagron - Thanks mate :)

  • I think this is better than the 4x100 In 2008, its just better

why cant it be like this again?

  • @soh54321 why can't it be like this again? clearly you haven't seen the mens 4X100 free from beijing. It was epic

  • I do not know how many times I've watched this video.... it is simply great!

  • smashed them like guitars. that's for you garry

  • as if he beat the WR on the first leg! haha

  • i died 10 times watching this.

  • i love how the commentator says "Klim Flydler Callus and Thorpe"

  • This was such a good race!

  • This is true Aussie spirit, you can hear and feel the crowd pushing the guys on, love it :)

  • So do I ... ;-).

  • U NEED MORE MOTIVATION THAT THIS? IDNT THINK SO

  • I really look forward to escape from Czech Republic. Hope somewhere it´ll be better. Tomas Gola

  • :-) A beautiful swimming @adamdeutsch0 - only 1.500 m but I feel great. But if your comment was meant to be an innuendo read what´s underneath - :D I really recognize shape of my mouth. If someone is commiting suicide because of he says: "Someone caused it",

  • doesn´t cynically says to all friends that will die on cancer but I´m not the only one who suffers so because of John Lennon´s driven idiot feeling useless (because of crash on unreal dreams) making mess in and on someone who loved or liked him most and I remember being beaten because of "my provacative look" (with +7 dioptry and 3 astigmatism) by five much older drugging adolescents being watched by another John Lennon´s kamikaze being assumed as best friend. Tomas

  • I watch this everyday before i go to train, it's a pump up.

  • He Wants them, Hey wants to eat them for DINNER!

  • :D Term Hell really doesn´t describe what talented are living through in here in Czech Republic. Any God´s gift is a reason to be mocked to take credit as better one. My MD on direct question answered that it´s part of natural process. :D Let´s show them what anti-darwinism (systematic abatement of talented) without elementary knowledge of economy can do. State of primitives, fatheadeds and louts; watch the most favourite czech band Kabát.

  • a rare moment.. Hall choked at the end, look at last 10 meters, his pace slowed up. Americans dominate swimming and hold most world records !

  • @maddooggg Back in 2000 most records were held by Australia. We still hold the most Women records.

  • @gnarkillkicksass LOL !! What records were held by Austrailia? AND there are only 2 records held by Austrailian women. Who and what events are you confused about ? I dont argue or disagree with facts only post them !

  • @maddooggg I refer to the late 90s and 2000. Australia WAS the dominate force (Thorpe, Hackett, O'Neill, Perkins etc), now days definatly not so. Though the Commonwealth games Mens 4x100m Free was a great race between Aus and South Africa, lots of young Aussies in good form which COULD be good news for 2012 (I hope).

  • @maddooggg Only losers choke. The difference between Aussies and you is we recognise anyone who excells in sport regardless of where they are from. The Atlantic olympics were a joke with the Americans only cheering Americans. A young gymnast got a perfect 10 at those games and was met by silence. Disgusting. Bad sports. This race was won by champions, recognise that.

  • Aussie Pride :) (Y)

  • I remember the American swimmer Gary Hall jr. telling the Australian media that they were going to eat the Aussies for dinner and smash them like guitars....lol.

  • @bellabana

In there face cause we eat them :)

  • He wants them, HE WANTS TO EAT THEM FOR DINNER!!!!! hahahah

  • He wants them, he wants to eat them for DINNER!

  • this is definetly the best race in the history of the olympic games, actually amazing and it was made all the better by being in sydney! gooooo aussiessss :D

  • If I should say why I choose Australia: 1. It wasn´t only my choice ... ;-) 2. Cry while watching this 4x100 freestyle live in 2000 and most beautiful summer olympic games I´ve ever seen-sorry Norway ;-) I like ... 3. Sea, sharks, warm and swimming.

  • 4.You´re all welcome and we don´t care about anything, show how you are and what are your possibilities. 5. Disrespect of any rule, disrespect to people and their individualities, blaming God of whatever that happen and disrespect to talented being always inferior to needs of the rest in a country I come from. Hope you´ll be kind to us. Tomáš

  • best sports race i've ever seen

  • "he wants to eat them for dinna'"

    lol

    great vid!

  • the Klim Edict GO HARD or GO HOME love the Yanks line "we'll smash them like guitars" and the Klimster strummed away after a great AUSSIE victory

  • the first 7 seconds sucked. From there on it was the best video on youtube.

  • @adisturbedswimmer95 - Yeah I struggle to sit through all that black at the beginning :-P

  • @adisturbedswimmer95 - Haha yeah I struggle through the black at the start too.

  • wow, great!!!

  • i watch this video so much. it just blows me away

  • Michael Klim is still smoking behind the blocks..

  • America still fucks shit up

  • anything to say can describe and comment your excellent work...the combination of the suitable music and the awesome video!!!!!(Y)

  • sin duda el mejor comentarista!

  • Smashed them like guitars.

  • Bow: Best sport commentary I´ve ever heard ... Wow :-)

  • I know! How amazing is his voice trembling as he realises that Australia might get the win!

  • Dennis Cometti, great Australian commentator.

  • his commentary makes the whole video so much more enjoyable. one of the best, cool

  • Micheal Klim, 25 m is my maximum with your style of swimming, Ian swims like orca ... I prefere shark-style of swimming ... (:-) no wave) ...

  • :D Do you think I can reach the olympics 2016 ... My targets are always the highest ... It´s only way to stop smoking ... :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD Ian Thorpe is still smoking behind the blocks ...

  • I am not sure I will ever see such a perfect race ever again in my life! I am very grateful technology helps us keep such a treasure.

  • I was only 10, but I can remember this moment like it was yesterday. GO AUSSIES!

  • this makes me proud to be austrailan

  • :-) Watch Klim ... and Thorpe ...

  • um, may i remind u ppl that thorpe at the time was predominantly a middle distance swimmer, whilst hall was a sprinter....hall shouldve of smashed thorpe, but he didnt, coz he's a bitch who goes out too hard too early.

  • what amazing race!!!!

  • i think this gets called the best race of all time cos the americans hadnt lost before and that gary hall jr mouthing off didnt help haha...its bit like when america lost the americas cup 4 the first time in 100+years 2 australia, its just made a big deal of.good on the aussies tho...i was proud!

  • "Now he's digging deep, the crowd is roaring, their hero is coming on. Will it be a fairy tale?" That's sports broadcasting gold, you just can't script a line like that.

  • so true

    so well called by Cometti

  • @NeoOsiris19 ...yup...without being biased...good commenting

  • 2008 beijing olympic winners????????? just remember that :)

  • I'll pay that! Good comeback mate. lol

The Sydney 2000 mens 100m relay here

in Sydney 2000, was a screamer. Both the

Aussies and the US just cleared out and

went to war. Much has been said about

Ian Thorpe's leg, when he finished over

the top of Garry Hall jr. However, lost in the

post race celebrations, was the brilliant

leg of Hall. Ian Thorpe hit the water with a

bigger lead over Hall, than he had at the finish.

  • hall faded in the last 50.

  • goes to show even elite athletes are still human and hey make mistakes

  • okay i respect that... and yeah your right.. glad we can share and agree on ideas

  • so, America was expected to win in beijing, they were the world record holders, the world champions and the betting favorites, this race was much more epic

  • pelle d'oca!

  • Comment removed

  • which song is on the video?? its awesome

  • Right Here Right Now - Fat Boy Slim

  • come on im from uk and i still thought that was a well won race

  • Awesome vid.

I rember the americans saying they were going to "smash us like guitars"

hence what the aussies do at 0:32

It was good to make them eat thier own words. AUSTRALIA FTW!

  • Nice of you to make this vid. Everyone credits Thorpe for winning this race when it was Klim who set it up with (at the time) world record swim of 48.18. Without Klim's brilliant leadoff swim the rest of the team wouldnt have stood a chance. Dont think Klim got the credit he deserved.

  • I agree, Michael Klim was amazing in this race; howeverm I think that attention went to Thorpe because he swam and won the heats, semi, and final of the 400m freestyle, and in spite of that he still swam an amazing 48 seconds in the last leg. Anyway, thumbs up for all aussies. Cheers mate

  • Anthony Ervin had the most stylish start. I have not seen any other perfect start. What do you think? He didn't even flex the legs as M. Klim did when they entered the water. The best start.

  • I don't really think so. All had a start with a lot of water splashing and except Klim they did not do a lot of fly kicks under water, which is actually faster than swim on the water surface.

In Germany, they always try to introduce right angle dives to avoid water splashing. Water splashing = wasted power, which results in fact like a parachute. Try it yourself and jump into the water with right angle. You glide much faster. Though, it is often too deep.

  • fantastic video

  • thanks

    it was an inspiring race

  • whats this song called

  • i am a swimmer and i love swim

  • So cool.I'm swimmer and i wish i can swim like that :)

  • ... a swimmer ... I could swim ... big I ... as him :-) just a joke ... glad you like it ... :-) It´s all about perfection nature (inborn expectation) ...

  • Michael you´re impressive ... I tried to swim in the same frequency with same power in each grab ... I give it up after 12 of them ... You get my absolute respect ... and the world record is result of unbelieveble power and energy in fifth box (:-) swimmers know what I´m talking about) ... I cried during the contest ... but it was tears of luck ... Thanks

  • COME ON AUSSIE! i was 11 when i watched this live on my tele. one of the greatest moments in australian sporting history. this and making the 2006 worldcup

  • :-) Are you sane?

  • i remember watching this race on tele. i'd only just turned 9 and i had been moved up to my local squad. didnt dawn on me then how good and inspirational this race was. i maybe english, but goooo ozzies goooo!!!!! i still withstand that although phelps has the silverwear, thorpe (no longer the fastest as such) but best swimmer of the era.

  • by silverwear ofcourse i mean what phelps done at bejing

  • I LOved This race!!!!!!! thankyou thankyou thankyou for posting this i love the music and the commentating mixed to gether it was perfect GO THE AUSSIES!!!!!!

  • thanks

    glad you liked it

  • what's this song called?

  • Right Here Right Now - Fatboy Slim

  • cheers :)

  • GREATEST RACE OF ALL TIME

  • Nah mate, there was much more hype for this race. The australians dived in the lead, then the next two dived in with america in the lead, then australia took it back before the next 2 dived in. each time that happened. it went back and forth. it was the battle between the aussies and the champions.

the 2008 final was just focused around phelps and his gold medals. its probably just because they made more of a deal about it in america and australia made a bigger deal out of this race.

  • damnit man! im not a swimmer, im just training for the dutch marine corps swimming test, thats why im watching these vids, but what a nice edit! makes me wanna go for it more now:D! thnx
