The sound goes down when Steve sings and then is much clearer when Arnel sings. That part isnt really a fair comparison. They each have good qualities and the song choice for Arnel isnt his doing it is arranged for him. He sings some of the new songs very well. He cant get as high of a note as Perry did, so Deen has to do it. But you have to admit the songs are very grueling on the vocal chords. Of course I LOVE Perry but Arnel is no slouch.

both have fantastic 24k voices arnel's quality of voice is thicker and fuller...it's more powerful, crispier, fresher, huskier and rockier, more fitting of a rock song as compared to sp's finer and girly sound thus making the song sound more of a pop than a rock song...and arnel's voice is more versatile and has a wider vocal range than sp's, imho!!!

Still love Steve Perry, but Arnel was born for this new role.

Arnel doesn't have a bad voice at all. But people that know journey know that he's the only singer for the band. He's more experienced and amazing!

But two things here - Arnel is DEFINITELY 'feeling' it (having been inspired by Steve p) and the most def deminish the sound on Steve's version. But come on, both of them 'felt' it - that's what music is about, and the ONLY reason we listen - cuz we really believe somehow they can 'feel' what we do..

The sound goes down when Steve sings and then is much clearer when Arnel sings. That part isnt really a fair comparison. They each have good qualities and the song choice for Arnel isnt his doing it is arranged for him. He sings some of the new songs very well. He cant get as high of a note as Perry did, so Deen has to do it. But you have to admit the songs are very grueling on the vocal chords. Of course I LOVE Perry but Arnel is no slouch.

both have fantastic 24k voices arnel's quality of voice is thicker and fuller...it's more powerful, crispier, fresher, huskier and rockier, more fitting of a rock song as compared to sp's finer and girly sound thus making the song sound more of a pop than a rock song...and arnel's voice is more versatile and has a wider vocal range than sp's, imho!!!

@annie4ever75 I agree. Especially on the "Live in Manila" DVD. Arnel sounds like a studio recorded Steve Perry - LIVE. I agree that the audio recording technology is totally different from the early 80's, but I really don't think it would make that much of a difference today. Arnel's voice IS more powerful than Steve Perry's, and I've been a huge fan of Steve Perry's since I was a kid, so it takes a lot to say that - but it's true. Still love Steve Perry, but Arnel was born for this new role.
