  • Awesome demonstraion of skill and showmanship.

  • If I could do what Rick Jay does, I wouldn't give a damn about Rick Jay. It's magic to me because it's impossible to do. For me, anyway.

  • I think his speech is better than the magic. Love his calm and controlled voice, works perfect to what he does! And of course, he's an amazing magician/card performer also.

  • 1:29 hindu shuffle

  • anyone know the name of the multiple shift used on the table?

  • @Explodeamoment nope :(

    want to know it too

  • Click here for this trick REVEALED

    /watch?v=XdOlJRzonDU

  • @schwarzeneggermagic I knew there had to be a mark of some kind. Thanks a lot for that video. I thought maybe they were trimmed on one end. I guess that has been done by someone somewhere.

  • Every day I'm shuffling

  • great performance but i wish he was evaluate HOW he did it :-/

  • I would have killed that woman who over exaggerated each trick with a stupid howl-like laugh.

  • TITS!

  • Does he show how to perform this trick in the dvd?

  • @redmoves its called vernon aces

u can find it in close up card magic by harry lorayne

  • 3:52 this is the moment when he turned aces face up, i also spoted some fake shuffles. But i still don't know how he did the trick with manipulation in different video, where he had all cards in order, after he really shuffled cards.

  • You pretend as if the sole merit and meaning in watching magic is to nobly decode each and every movement with meticulous precision. If you do less than a little research, you will find that the principles of magic are not concerned with this at all. Observing specific movements used to conjure through a publicly available video does not make you a 'bold magician of secrets and superior knowledge', all it means is that you have eyesight and basic brain functions. Your child-like imagination...

  • what a beast!

  • 1:46 look carefully, he's only picking up the first four cards of the deck, which are the four aces. It has nothin to do with card control lol.

  • This is a very good trick. I think he had to practice it for a very long time until he managed to do it so good.

  • I wanna be as skilled as this guy! Well, guess I'll need to practice :P

  • He didn't cut an ace 2nd time round. Man, if you're gonna dead cut an ace, make sure it's an ace and not a queen.

  • @gnamp

Clearly, that part of the routine went over your head mate.

Read Ed Marlo - it's PART of the routine!

  • he has got the jesus fingers!

  • I seriously want to know how to perform this.. any tutorials anywhere or books, dvd's etc.?

  • i think he's using a stripper deck, isn't he?

  • @sieglein1 nope.

  • @sieglein1 no, he is just amazing

  • @sieglein1

    Noooooooooo!

  • How? Seriously... wtf....

  • Why are they laughing so much at his jokes?

  • @LDstilltrying because they like him

  • Holy fucking shit Ricky Jay... You son of a bitch lol

  • i never want to play poker with ricky jay

  • woow :) he must try to play poker xD

  • anyone knows what kind of Stack he is using in the routine? i have figured it all out!

  • @emathed1 What are you talking about?

  • @emathed1 This isn't done using any kind of setup/stack.

  • @Alfalotter i ment when he play the card games later on when he win every time :P i think the shuffles before is a setup effect to get in to the stack he needs to be in :P

  • @emathed1 If he does something like that later on I don't know but it is likely to be the Aronson stack if there is any used at all.

  • @emathed1 average cards, quick hands and some practice is all it takes.

  • if you watch the whole act some of the stuff he does is actually very simple. watch the routine slowly when he locates the aces and just before he states :

" Can cards be controlled...well yes"

the aces are actually on top of the deck and the cuts are just a series a false cuts whilst talking.

  • @OhWhatASleight You are way off. Sorry. If knew any of Ed Marlow's material you would know that Ricky does a version of an Ed Marlow effect. It uses no false cuts to find the aces.

  • @RS1963 sorry friend but your wrong, watch the top packet at 1.50 as he starts the cutting actions. it starts with two flicks off the TOP packet. the rest are false cuts and the aces are on top. as he cuts the pack he doesn't actually place the halves fully together.... i perform this effect lol.

  • @OhWhatASleight You weren't real clear in your o.p. but that is beside the point. Why would you want to even give a half ass explanation of this if you are actually a magician? Back to what I was saying about Marlow however I had assumed you were speaking of the first part of the routine. Which is a version of Marlow's Estimation aces. I'm starting to wonder if you even know who magicians such as Marlow. Vernon, Charlie Miller were.

  • @RS1963 i did give a poor explanation, i actually couldn't explain the cuts because you need to look clearly enough at the packets to see that the cuts do not actually come together when completed.

Wether or not you think i am a magician or not is besides the point and is a comment made merely to flame other users.

For the record i do know the works of Miller, Dai vernon, and i learned my second deals from an original Marlow 1960's text on revolutionary card technique.

  • @OhWhatASleight It was not to flame other users. You don't get the point so the discussion is over.

  • @RS1963 im sorry that your illogical, nonsensical assumptions about my knowledge and or experience of magic is incorrect, but thats just the way it goes. I suggest that if you want to flame users (IE: me and or others) you should try football....they have a great hooligan squad you can join, you may feel right at home.

  • @RS1963 Actually I couldn't care less wether you think i am a magician or not, i have a bar that i perform at regularly. But in all honesty i don't need to justify myself to a nobody.

  • I've got Harry lorayne's book close up card magic but does anyone know how he counts the cards so fast for vernon's aces while talking? It's awesome

  • @nickalexander0703 You just have to be so cool.

  • Jay's skill and talent are nothing less than astonishing. He is truly a Master among Masters of Cards.

  • he is the nex Gambit.

  • 1:21~1:25 Awesome XDDDDD

  • @JasonRock999 called a hindu shuffle he cuts top cards and gives him the bottom card

  • what control technique does he use to control the aces separated by cards to get them to the top of the pack?

  • He is a card card magician

  • Holy shit even Ricky Jay flashes!

  • @marredsun well but only if you watch the video about 5 to 10 times

  • @franzschneckenbauer Hahaha, it's true. And still it's not noticeable in the context of the moves. This man is just unbelievable.

  • wow... he must have used a very difficult variation of the zarrow shuffle to be able to do what he did...

  • when he cuts the deck, he cuts it from the top. the bottom card remains the same. he throws the bottom card out.

  • He is using a stripper deck

  • @schwarzeneggermagic no he´s not u jack-ass..

  • @schwarzeneggermagic Nope sorry you are quite wrong. If you handed Ricky your own pack of cards he would and could do what you see here with your deck.

  • @schwarzeneggermagic he is not using a stripper deck. at what point in the video did you see him strip out anything? Ricky jay hates gimmicked decks. he is a gambler demonstrator, he uses ordinary cards to portray his incredible skill. using a stripper deck would be taking the easy way out. and ricky jay always goes the extra mile

  • @DimitriTheDealer actually if u watch his card manipulation video, that uses camera tricks...... ricky jay is my favorite magician but he still uses tricks or gimmicks.

  • @cardmagicguy99 You couldn't be more wrong.

  • @cardmagicguy99 I posted earlier to the wrong person and even though your post is a month old. You are wrong there aren't any camera tricks in the video. What you see Ricky do here you would see him do if you were sitting at the table with him.

  • ty herb zarrow

  • 52 ASSISTANTS

  • whats the name of the false shuffle at 0,30??

  • @orjan33 It wasn't false, it was a tabled faro

  • yeahh table farro be atch

  • how are ricky jay's intructional videos?

  • @eddiedaskull

    Nonexistent.

  • @eddiedaskull He doesn't have any and probably never will put out any instructional videos.

  • Man he is funny

  • the face of the man at 1:44 is fantastic ahahah

  • Yeah, he looks so intrigued.

  • I once saw a part from a documentary about this guy. I've tried to look around on the internet but I can't find this movie. Does anyone know where I could buy/steam this?

  • Has he ever revealed the Ace cutting trick?

  • No.

  • @superchef78 Ah. Thanks for the answer:)

  • yes brusko3269 is correct, in this trick ricky jay does not use any gimmicks or camera tricks, the trick is performed with a regular deck of cards, although it is very difficult to master.

  • His faro is mere perfection, 26 + 26 and the bridge is excellent.

  • His card control is simply amazing! I love how he incorporates the mix up the entire deck one side face up, one side face down, pushes them together, and "square it up." Cut them normally, and pick up half the deck at the break, put in other hand and place deck correctly back together.

  • Lucky!!!! ;-)

  • How does he square the deck up so clean and so quickly when he shuffles the cards? When I do it, it takes like 5 seconds to square up and they it's extremely hard to push them together. Also, the bottom 2 or 4 cards get stuck next to each other and won't go together. Anyone have any advice?

  • @superchef78 try this: after the shuffle, your forefingers stay just below the top corners of the vertical sides, while your thumbs are at the center of the horizontal side of the deck, barely touching each other. Simultaneously, put pressure on the edge of the deck, your forefingers and thumbs meeting on the left and right corners, respectively.

    Hope this helps....

  • @superchef78 Buy new cards |-D sounds like yours are dirty

  • What does that even mean? I do agree though, the faro shuffle is a much easier/controllable manuever given the fact that the operator at hand has a new deck.

  • It's pretty easy to notice on the second trick all cards are dealed from the top of the deck.

  • Is that Mrs. Cunningham from Happy Days? Look at 4:23.

  • @PrestyGomez we are normal persons we dont watch "happy days" u damn nerdo

  • @PrestyGomez

    yeah it is

Believe it of not Mr.Cunningham was known to be an amature magician

  • @PrestyGomez: Truly, I do believe it is.

  • @PrestyGomez Ya it is Mrs. Cunningham! lol

  • my favourite video on youtube :)

  • this trick can be done with a normal deck of playing cards. The reason why half of you cant understand it is because this trick needs skill to be executed. You dont have that skill so you turn to writing comments that he is using a stripper deck but he is not.He is Ricky Jay for god sake, doesnt that says it all. -.-

  • where can i find a tutorial for this whole routine???

  • I don't think you could find a tutorial of the entire thing, but try a YouTube search for "Scarne's aces tutorial."

  • sorry change that, I just watched it again, and during the first round of applause, he spreads the cards face up (the camera pans to the audience) but this should give him time to remember 3 key cards and cut to them later :)

  • haha amazing

  • I think it would be possible to do a trick like this with a stripper deck, But I am not sure he doesn't, Watch his video card manipulation - INSANE!

  • mismag822 speak do a tutorial lol

  • fake

  • @wabtonio what makes you say that?

  • How?

  • Ahaha dis nikka gets hard off of card tricks

  • Eso es lo que yo llamo "Un triunfo"

  • this guy is soo beast i just watched this guy on mythbusters n he can throw them at amazing speeds too!!!! beast maaan

  • him and derren brown are the only people that should be allowed to shove there skills in your face, simply because it is AMAZING

  • @MrDJKidKash Clearly you know nothing about contemporary magicians. I can think of 100s of magicians better than 'Derren Brown'. Look up Jeff McBride, Lance Burton, Florian Zimmer or Paul Wilson.

  • I get soo hard when watching this guy work with cards.

  • Most of that I can do, but he is very slik

  • Ricky Jay - Master

  • the last bit that little trick i do that but with a single card hes a very good cheat

  • He is the best. Love the video.

  • Very nice fake shuffles there. Good control. And a nice little trick there at 3:54 to get them back XD

    I like his style

  • I love his dead pan delivery. Very entertaining and impressive stuff.

  • very nice, i like the way you distract the audience. However i cut u turning the deck on the last part of triumph

  • Does anybody know if he is counting the cards or looking for specific cards for estimation aces at 2:03. Thanks to anyone in the know

  • @nickalexander0703 he could have a specific card there but you dont need to that would just be to make it easier for him if you know the routing ( which i do) you dont need it but it just might make it faster but i really just think he is splitting them as equal as possible. the trick can be found in clope up magic by harry lorayne titled Vernon's aces. give it a look great book

  • @DaFishFromThePast Thanks very much for the reply, I'll have a look at the book you mentioned cheers. Ps I just realised I put "estimation aces" but you know what I mean. I just watched it again and I think he counts 12 the first time and then makes the other piles the same size just by sight - Damien Nieman has a nice idea for the get ready too on his 'fast company' dvd. Anyway thanks again - cheers for now - Nick

  • is ricky jay a comedian too

  • Stripper deck.

  • ok, i'm sorry you're right, but i am to right ;) you see... he does take cards from the top but he throws the bottom card. i can do the same with cards from the bottom and throw the top but he does it the other way. it is way more difficult but far more realistic. should we call it a tie? ;)

  • @vito449 well,I didn't say you were wrong on the production of the 3 aces. You were wrong on the last ace so that makes you 75% correct and 25% wrong. I've been doing this whole trick for quite a while, so I can honestly say that I'm 100% correct. So, if you understand your math, we are not tie. If you don't believe me, look at the previous comments below !

    Peace!!!!!

  • @brusko3269 but the last ace is where i'm talking aboiut. i do think i am right on that part, and if i am not... please tell me what hoe does THEN

  • this is art!

  • also at 1:48 he have put the four aces from the last trick on top of the deck. then he doesn't shufle and with some fast flicks it looks like that the3 aces are taken somewhere from the deck but he takes them all from the top

  • at 1:20 he throws the top card that didn't move the whole time so the top card was the ace of hearts 100% sure

  • if this is a test and your whole life is on the line then you failed miserably because, you were 200% ........WRONG!!!!

  • @brusko3269 trust me, i can do this trick and wtf my life at stake? even when it was i am sure ;)

    kisses to you

    SUCKER!!!!!!

  • I wish I could believe you that you can do this trick. But if you look very closely the time before 1:20, he's cutting cards from the top of the deck. That means, the last ace(ace of hearts) didn't come from the top which also shows that you don't know how this trick being done.

  • @brusko3269

looking very closely, i just noticed it. ur right. but i dont believe you can do this trick, some parts of the trick just dont make sense, ive looked at it over and over again, i still dont think anyone can do this with a normal deck of cards.

  • @caisobarber you're the 8th guy that told me that, but after I revealed to them how this trick being done, they thanked me for the revelation which I regret doing so. If you are a magician, then obviously your knowledge in card magic still limited. But I can assure you, I've been doing this for a long long time now with a regular deck of cards!

  • @caisobarber If my mind serves me right, you're the 8th guy that told me that. But after I revealed to them how this trick being done, they thanked me for the revelation which I regret doing so.If you are a magician, then obviously your knowledge in card magic still limited. Again, this can be done with a regular deck of cards!

  • @brusko3269 i am a magician, and i may not be the best but my knowledge is good enough to know many card tricks, i am very wary of things posted on youtube, i am not saying this trick was edited etc but i dont believe someone can perform this trick with a normal deck of cards, either that or great luck is needed.

  • @caisobarber you're a magician and according to you, your knowledge is good enough to know many card tricks. Well, obviously your knowledge is not good enough to be able to understand how this trick is being done.

4 months ago, there's one guy named ld10562, who kept on insisting that this trick is being done with a stripper deck. And just like you, he doesn't believe that someone can actually do this with a regular deck of cards. Hit #6 on the previous comments and tell me that nobody can dothis

  • @brusko3269 sorry but i cant rely on other members comments, i am wary of what people say and nor do i believe it. i have been researching methods and sleights some more and although i do understand his fake shuffles, controlling the aces to t he bottom etc there are some parts of this trick which dont make sense. i have seen his other trick where it seems he uses camera edits etc. im not saying he is doing that but unless i see it for my own eyes in front of me i wont believe it

  • @caisobarber if I'm going to explain to you the parts where you claimed that it won't make sense and do it yourself, do you still need somebody to perform it in front of your eyes to believe it?

  • @brusko3269 no i do not, if i can do it myself or understand that it is possible then i would believe it, and i will accept that this trick is indeed done using a normal deck of cards with no camera tricks or other gimmicks involved. you sound very confident, if you are right then i will accept that you are right and i am wrong but i doubt this will be the case. either that or this trick was performed many many times and it was pure luck that made this trick possible

  • @caisobarber this can't be done with pure luck! it needs skill to perform this. If you are a magician, as you claimed, tell me which part that you thought it won't make sense, and I will tell you how it is done, just for you to stop saying such things

  • @brusko3269 ok, i sent you a message on the parts where i think cant be done or pure luck is needed. like i said i will remove my previous comments and acknowlege that ricky jay does indeed use a normal deck of cards for this trick

  • @caisobarber and after reading the guy's comment, come back to me and tell me that you still believe that I can't do the trick or Ricky Jay's trick was a fake...

  • @caisobarber if you don't seeld10562's comments on#6 on the previous comments, try 7 or 8 and it would help you realize that you were terribly wrong on your assumption.

  • Wait, hes GOTTA have a stripper deck? I cant figure it out? Its just not possible. I cant figure it out!

  • It's obviously possible considering Ricky Jay performed it.

  • I always love Triumph routines:D

  • I WOULD LIKE TO STAND CORRECTED on my previous insults to both Ricky Jay and pure magicians with my assumptions on this being done with a stripper deck. I was extremely fortunate to have the true secret of this card control shared with me and I am embarrassed at my previous accusations and comments about how Ricky Jay does this. This is the work of a true genius with skills that all of us would love to posses. BIG SHOUTS TO BRUSKO for setting me straight. BIG UPS TO ALL PURE MAGICIANS.

  • you're a man of words! I didn't expect that you fulfill your promise when you e - mailed me. But by doing this, you earned my respect. You are truly a man......of HONOR! God Bless, my friend!

  • @brusko3269 if i start calling it a stripper deck will you tell me too ? XD

  • why would you still call it a stripper when ld10562 said that it is not, lol

  • coz said at first ld10562 said that it was a stripper. Then brusko3269 told him how it's done so i thought i called a stripper he would tell me too =) anyway i was just kidding

  • i swore it was a stripper but i'm telling you, once you read the trick and get whats going on you know its not a stripper...

  • @ld10562 i wud like to defend ur previous accusations and call ur current viewpoint idiotic, while being neutral to ur future perspectives

  • its really not a stripper...i have the trick in all its glory and have been practicing like mad...i still have lots of work to do in order to have flawless looking technique but its NOT a stripper for sure...

  • can u tell me where i can get the tricks of ricky jay?

    would be cool

  • What do you mean?

  • @superchef78 well i wanted to know if there is a shop where i can buy the dvds which explain all the tricks which he performans here on youtube

  • Probably not. Your better off reading from ancient texts such as Expert at the Card Table and Expert Card Technique.

  • take notes everyone he is a master.

  • this is not a stripper! If you want to know how is it done, pm me just for you to stop saying it's a stripper!

  • Amazing, a true master.

  • i'm pretty sure this guy was in a movie with Gene Hackmen called 'Heist'. Looks and sounds just like the character in the movie...

  • That's right. Heist was written by David Mamet, a good friend of Ricky's.

  • @PrestyGomez Look for an old HBO special he did called "Ricky Jay and His 52 Helpers," a long special where he demonstrates card mechanics and other skills.

  • @platoonwar99 That's what this clip is from.

  • @makemehavefun He also had a small part in "the prestige" and he did the voice over for magnolia.

  • Look at my Card Control/Death Cut
