ive been playing bass for almost 2 years and i joind band my senior year of highschool (last august). The whole time before then ive only played rock music and holy crap was jazz a shock to my system. somehow i got accpeted to be the bassist for the highest of the three jazz bands. And as if learning to sight read and playing a whole new genre of music wasnt tough enough on me, my band director tells me i need to learn upright bass last month. sooooo ya this song is friggin nightmare to play.
the Clark Atlanta University Jazz Orchestra has THE ORIGINAL music to ALL of DIZZY'S MUSIC!!....and the actually tempo is 240bpm..4/4 time...but we play it in one...if you dont know what that means...then you don't really know how to play music..
You really need to hear the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra's version of this recorded in '94. They take it about 10-20 BPM faster and the trumpet solo will really knock your socks off. Dizzy is much more subdued here.
