How times change... a win by 1 point in 1988, a win on a tie-break three years later, and by the time we get to last year the winning margin is 169 points! That was some of the least exciting voting ever.

It means that France 1991 had just as many points as the winner, but it lost on the tie-breaker rule.

Tie-breaker rule is needed when two songs finish in 1st place with the same points. Then in 1991 the rule was that the song with the most 12 points wins. It was the same for Sweden and France so they checked the number of 10 points. Sweden had more of those, so they were announced the winners and France 2nd.

How depressing to see the UK rated second five times in this! There are a few there which deserved second place, but if only Michael Ball had laid off the theatrics we might have won '92, and in '87 lets not forget only 1 point seperated the UK from Switzerland (represented by the Quebecois Celine Dion). Interesting to note Ukraine is the new UK in the 2nd place stakes though!
