haha.. awsome ukraine came second like 15timess.. hope they win this year.. i loved verka serduchka in 2007 and ani lorka in 2008 .. she should have won instead of dima bilan.. I LOVE ALL UKRAINE EUROVISION SONGS!!
My favorites of this group: Germany 1981, Israel 1982 & 1983, Ireland 1984, UK 1989, France 1991, UK 1993, Poland 1994 (!), Spain 1995, Norway 1996, UK 1998, Iceland 1999, Denmark 2001, Serbia & Montenegro 2004, Malta 2005, Russia 2006, Ukraine 2008, Iceland 2009.
@hannesthefreakl Those are how the results would have looked had there been 100% tele-voting, but there was 50% jury voting and 50% tele-voting in the final, which meant Iceand were 2nd, Azerbaijan 3rd and Turkey 4th.
How times change... a win by 1 point in 1988, a win on a tie-break three years later, and by the time we get to last year the winning margin is 169 points! That was some of the least exciting voting ever.
@Lemourios Indeed. Particularly in 1988 when the UK lost by only one point, and in 1989 and 1992 when the UK had the best songs and best singers in the competition by miles.
@BluebirdintheSky Well, that's the magic of the Eurovision! The songs you like never end up 1st!! And I totally agree with you on those years (especially 1992).
The only thing why Alexander Rybak won in 2009 because with his so called "good looks", all the ladies voted him -_- How PATHETIC! he doesn't even know how to sing!!
Tie-breaker rule is needed when two songs finish in 1st place with the same points. Then in 1991 the rule was that the song with the most 12 points wins. It was the same for Sweden and France so they checked the number of 10 points. Sweden had more of those, so they were announced the winners and France 2nd.
How depressing to see the UK rated second five times in this! There are a few there which deserved second place, but if only Michael Ball had laid off the theatrics we might have won '92, and in '87 lets not forget only 1 point seperated the UK from Switzerland (represented by the Quebecois Celine Dion). Interesting to note Ukraine is the new UK in the 2nd place stakes though!
Russia is realy good at the Eurovision in th 2000's !
my favorites are:
2006 Russia
2008 Ukraine
2009 Iceland (the biggest margin right? 169 that's insane!)

It means that France 1991 had just as many points as the winner, but it lost on the tie-breaker rule.
