love the video, but can someone confirm. the panel shown between 4:37 and 5:10, was this some sort of aircraft to ground telemetry of the cockpit instruments? unless I'm wrong, there is a VSI and AoA indicator there (based of expected readings during a stall) but does anyone know? what data is being displayed here?
Pakistani pilots in the 1960's and 70's found it easy to shoot down Israeli Mirages during dogfights. They would pull the noses of their MIG's up until the Mirages overshot (common problem in delta wing aircraft) and then launch Atoll missiles at them.
In the 1967 israel-arab war there were about 16 pakistani pilots on deputation in jordan, syria and iraq. Pakistan allowed them to serve in AA but not strike. They downed some 10 israely mirages and vautours etc.
I see a ball on the instrument dashboardof the Mirage. I have a question: what is the type of gyroscopic system or kind of compass system for the artificial horizon that is unaffected by G-forces?
yes eletrical or vacuum powered Gyro system. Vaccum system is used on the small cheaper airplanes like some small Cessnas and simillar. Eletrical powered is more accurate (higher rolls) and of course more expensive. Anyway most of the avionics systems on the planes are based on gyro system for example gyro compass or turn indicator as well.
En voyant la boule sur le tableau de bord du mirage, j'me pose une question du genre esq c'est un gyroscope ou un système du type compas qui font que l'horizont artificiel n'est pas perturbé par la force des G ?

Mirage III: One of the best at his time!
I flew one(once) in the 90's and was very surprised of the flight qualities!!!

did you see that instrument panel shaking?
hjlkfhyjdl 4 years ago
Of course... It's amazing because the aircraft is flying at such a high altitude that both stall and supersonic speeds are very close to each other.

ya i know that, not everyone that posts a comment here is a complete idiot when it comes to aviation

Interesting comment.
When did Israel and pakistan ever go to war?
Funnily enough the pakis bought about 50 mirage 3's from the australians in the mid to late 80's. Why would they do that if the MIG were so good?
dhc4ever 4 years ago
5 June 1967 - Super Mystere B-2
7 June 1967 - Varber IIN Bomber and Mirage IIICJ
26 April 1974 Mirage IIICJ (Flt Lt Sattar Alvi)
Regardless of the aircraft they flew, Pakistani pilots always dominated their Israeli counterparts during the mideast wars of the 60's & 70's.

defencejournal/apr99/golan.
Check "Syrian Air Force" on Wikipedia.
Chuck Yeager worked with Pakistani pilots during the 1971 India/Pakistan war and stated that PAF pilots are second to none.

nonsense

The first tranch of mirage 3s was bought beginning 1967, not in the 80s. They bought Vipers in the 80s.
BelligerentPacifist 4 years ago
Also cause Mig's were quite simply the best aircraft at the time.
Mirage370 4 years ago
Don't agree with that.
cmtecarvalho 4 years ago
Me neither. I don't think the pilots of the wrecked Migs all over Sinai, Egypt, Syria and Iraq would agree either.

Rough translation of first comment:

yellowdesk 5 years ago
Thanks for the translation yellowdesk! Well, that ball is called "boule" and it works as an artificial horizon and compass, all together.
cmtecarvalho 5 years ago
The essence of the question was: what drives the ball without being affected by G-forces: gyro, or someting else?
yellowdesk 5 years ago
