sara U ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sis i made it in just five minutes after trying it once its rocking it may be difficult for people who are new to origami and are watching this just because it looks cool people this is the best tutorial u can get on making it with a single paper almost all other videos have it with some no. of papers
there's actually a quite easier way to make this. you collapse it into a different shape, blow into one of the ends, and it just pops up! but i do like this version as well!
this model and vieo is AWESOME! JOHN MONTROLL DID AN INCREDIBLE JOB.. SPEAKING OF JOHN MONTROLL... WHICH BOOK DO YOU THINK I SHOULD BUY??? "ORIGAMI SEA LIFE" BUT JOHN MONTROLL AND ROBERT LANG.... OR "ORIGAMI INSECTS AND THERE KIN" WHAT BOOK O YOU PERFER SARA??? =D
You should buy the book that interests you more. Would you rather want to fold insects, or sea life? Oh, and if you want a John Montroll book, "Origami Insects and Their Kin" won't qualify. ;)
ok my difficulty in this model so far is when the model is in the three d shape and you have to put the flaps into the pockets. as soon as i move onto the next one, the first one just comes right out. i have tried reinforcing the folds but it is just in there lying there being held in by my fingers. am i supposed to hold it down with one or two of my fingers while i move onto the second one?
Well, as you can see in the video, I visit the flaps a couple of times. There are only 4, and I think I redo each one twice. The model gets more stable the more flaps you've inserted into the pockets. Once it's totally closed it should also stay that way. If it's really not working for you, maybe you can use paper clips to secure the first two flaps in the pockets.
when i saw it i thought that it is a clasic sonobe and i said what is wrong now.the easy sonobe units that can make almost everyone.but when i heard about one sheet of paper the job became interesting
@Inu1907 I usually contact the designers directly. The only exception to that rule is when the designer has deceased. Then I contact the copyright owner. It's not always easy to get contact details, but it's part of the challenge. :)
@Inu1907 Some people prefer watching the video without sound. For the "Last Waltz" by Neal Elias I even translated the captions into German, and some others contributed further translations. Why did I do it for this one? I wanted to try out the automatic captions provided by YouTube (new feature). Unfortunately, I seem to have too strong an accent to actually make it work properly, so I had to transcribe the whole thing. Ah well...
@EleVRs I can absolutely recommend it, it's hard to believe how much content John was able to put into the book. There's a great chapter on mathematics, and so many diagrams of extraordinary shapes. What else can I say? :)
@thedirtcrew I couldn't agree more. I think the models in the book profit a lot from the strong mathematical background John has. Few designers have managed to make geometric 3D shapes from a single sheet, and he introduces so many of them!
Wow, a really complex looking design folded from 1 sheet! If I saw this at first, I would have thought it was a modular model. Fascinating, and extremely easy to replicate. Thank you so much Sara!
tnx sara i made it. im so happy :)

I've always done this by adding extra diagonals to the waterbomb. Interesting way of doing it!

i got this book 2 days ago. what models have you folded?
aceoferasing 1 year ago
@aceoferasing I folded most of the models in part 2 (or all?), and one or two from part 3.
AdamsSara 1 year ago
This was fun to fold and once you learn from the video, it's easy to remember. So it's a good one to fold in class or work when bored. Thanks, Sara!

i've made the octahedron. Now i want to make the ICOSAHEDRON (lol joke)
BOSSSNIK11 2 years ago
Great video!
just wondering, is this really an octahedron? I've always thought an octahedron looks like 2 square-based pyramids glued together by the bases...
but that aside, this is an awesome model, I noticed that some parts of it is a little like the steps for a Kawasaki Rose...
fabricofspacetime 2 years ago
@fabricofspacetime It's a stellated octahedron. This means it's the shape you get if you place a pyramid on each of the eight faces of an octahedron.
