  • Does anyone know where i can find a studio recorded version of this song???

  • @laxedskater009 On his album Radio Free Albemuth.

  • Every time I hear this piece I get to the brink of tearing up. It's just breathtaking.

  • He just looks like Roy "The big country" Nelson.

  • HE lost many notes....

  • @c24253994

upload a cover i'll see if you lost a single note. ;)

  • @ReviewDaShit haha you think i think he is suck?? NO!!! I am bass too. so I feel sorry for his lost note.

  • Having read the book "Flow my Tears the Policeman Said", this piece really does capture many of the elements prevalent in the text. Even the rough characteristics of the performance translate as well. This song basically got me into Philip K. Dick.

  • I wonder how this would sound on a fretless bass....

  • 30 people are gayer then AIDS

  • smooooth

  • sos un muerto PUTO

  • man what is that bass model?? that's amazing.

  • man what is that abass?? that's amazing

  • @Ba55taztic Kubiki Ex-Factor.

You can pick these up 2nd hand for aroun £500-£800, they appear once in a while.

Have an odd extension near where the headstock should be that when the switch is flicked, gives you two extra frets behind the "nut"...Strange concept. These days we just use D-tuners lol!

  • this was the first 2hand tapping on bass vid i saw when I was beginning bass it really impressed me- it also almost scared me away from the bass xD

and whats with all the jerks keeping pointing out the flaws in the song?

Everybody makes mistakes, get over it. This is a very advance song to play, especially for the many people (beginners to even professional bassist) who don't know how to play melodic or tapping to begin with.

  • Blood hell.... amazing.

Oh man for that crisp clear technique.

  • 30 people have never heard of such a thing as a bass guitar

  • so thoughtful something about that melody i dont know it gets me its so deep and filled with emotion

  • I agree with the mistakes. He misses or mutes a lot of notes. A lot of times he taps with his left hand while his right hand is still on a higher fret of that string, and it doesn't make a sound. Like at 2:42, it gets really quiet. At 3:08, he misses a string of notes. At 3:58, his volume drops again, and at about 4:05, he misses some of the higher notes.

Still a great player. Touchstyle can be tiring, so it's understandable that he misses a few.

  • @oniman13 can you do any better

  • @jawbreaker818 No, but I don't release instructional videos.

Anyways, he's a great player. It's understandable he'd miss them. I just wanted to point out that he did make a few mistakes.

  • @oniman13 It's called dynamic contrast. It's a musical concept that mature musicians employ from time to time. He hits one note a little off at 3:38, other than that and a few other tapped notes that he chips a little he's very intentional about everything.

  • final fantasy 8/7 or lets say thos PS1 RPG games where it takes place in a garden with spirits ahahhahahah lod days

  • this song has a pretty great dark feeling to it... yet saddening, then nearing the end, it speeds up, into confusion and madness. yet its like your trying to find someone.

  • Danny Bonaduce??

  • some horrible mistakes :S

  • @Autumnmaker really?

  • @Autumnmaker are you taking the piss, he misses one note

  • @MachineGunGorilla i have to agree with autmnmaker cause this song is fucking amazing dont get me wrong but he has to totaly stop fucking playing at one point and there are some sketchy ass taps.

  • can you do any better think not if so do

  • gotta love your add9 chords

  • can i get tabs?

  • fantastic

  • lol you flubbed a few notes here and there, Ive seen you do better stu! keep up the great work!!!!

  • The fast typing totally reminds me of an old Nintendo game, like the last boss or something =p Fucking awesome song. I wish I could tap that fast and clean!

  • STU , great to hear your music

  • Pity its so sloppy and he has such awful tone

  • I kinda feel like he could played this with the higher strings tuned higher and it would have made it easier. But, anyways, it's amazing.

  • bass masta has a really good tab for this easy to follow. love this first time i heard stu hamm now im hooked!

  • he must be a really huge PKD fan

  • this is mindblowing

  • i dislike this

  • @alaanees

    How come ? =O

  • i remember learning it all by ear that one saturday a few months ago.

    still a bitch to play.

    amazing stu!!!

  • i want this tab

  • @tdub694201 911tabs, dude

  • This must sound epic on a fretless

  • I wish more bassists would take the time to really develop their own style, there's not many people that play like Stu. Who knows, maybe someday we'll all be watching you play amazing bass solos

  • Nice.. but that guitar is butt ugly

  • That was sweet. I originally clicked the link because of the title. I saw "Flow My Tears" and wondered if it had anything to do with Phil Dick. Indeed it did. Nice bass work. Mine is a little bit rougher.

  • Have this on cassette just how long ago ? way ahead of his time!

  • Doesn't even look like Stu.

  • good piece but intonatgion is awful

  • awsome! this sounds so much like a metallica song. anyone agree?

  • @voncoolio You should never compare someone great like Stu Hamm to that awful band...

  • @chrlee13579 Doesn't take much of an ear to hear the similarity....

  • @voncoolio Then you must not have much of an ear if you can hear any similarities.

  • @chrlee13579 come on dude. Everyone interprets music differently! It ain't worth arguing about. I just feel you could hear 0:33 fitting real well in a metallica song intro.

  • not my favorite style of rhythm but i dig the melody.

  • I would say he did fucking awesome due to the fact he plays the song by memory and that the song almost makes you want to cry because its so beautiful

  • ide say its real damn good, kinda repetitive though

he just cant get his touch perfect on those real high notes

  • It's really tough when you got those fat ass bass strings... The higher up your go the harder you gotta hit'em.

  • I thought he was better than this :s way too many mistakes here

  • @PowerSlave59 lol and you can do better? this is really good.

  • Anyone wanting tabs can find them on Stu's website. Just google his name

  • anyone know the tuning?

  • Standard E.

  • factor kubicki! =D

  • stu = my idol

  • 1.40 sounds just like My darkest hour from Megadeth.

  • does anybody know what brand that bass is?

  • Factor.

  • Factor

  • Good song, but choppy as hell.

  • Great!!!

  • Very mellow and melodic. I would prefer it though if his tone was a bit smoother, as opposed to the crisp tone he has for this video. That's just my opinion though.

  • @spoofzilla I agree, i get a feeling that it has to do more with the life of his strings, seems like they are going to die soon base on all the dead notes he had. still a great solo

  • @spoofzilla and i would have used a fretless bass aswell!!!

  • I've seen Stu play a few times and he never seizes to amaze me. One of the few bass players that can cover all the bases (no pun intened) stylistically. Bassically the quintessential bassist.. =)

  • Intoxicating.

  • Read a few comments earlier about 'being sloppy' and 'messing up'. I say not only is it a great piece of music but all credit to the guy for keeping slight mistakes in and also for using a good clean bass sound.

  • Freaking kickass!

Flawless Tapping. This dude is my idol from now.

  • i didnt realize how old he is currently. too bad :(

  • He's not that old!!!!

  • One of the most amazong bass player in the world!!!

  • I read the description and thought it said pop tart for the bass guitar....(I read it pretty fast....)

  • esse é o cara mono!!!!

    =D

  • Man, I learned this tune almost two decades ago... I'm growing old.

  • Wow.

  • this is so beautiful :)

  • im glad i watched this really baked

  • right, man.

  • amen to that lol i use to watch him on the satch dvd while i was baked...good times lol

  • @storageboxinformatio I would be too

  • im trying to learn this song. ive learned the beggining and stuff. it took like a week just to learn the hand movements and stuff

  • This guy must like Philip K. Dick

  • amazing...looks really hard!

  • it aint too hard. just practice like fuck. tapping is pretty easy compared to other styles of playing

  • He's playing some of the guitar parts from the album version as well. I think I prefer this version over the Radio Free Albemoth one.

    Very pretty.

  • i feel bad for never never hearing about this guy. hes the best. jesus.

  • Amazing!

  • Awesome.

  • Stu back in the day reminds me of the PBS guy who painted stuff really quick.

  • Bob Ross I believe was his name haha?

  • he still paints on pbs,

  • this song hurts my hands

does the 32" scale do much to improve his reach?

  • The composition is amazing. Though the playing is a bit sloppy at bits, it's okay. Love it! <3 :D

  • its very cool when he controls the intensity .. lowering it

  • wonder bass player, deserves more respect

  • I really like this but it's kinda sloppy

  • He does mess up at quite a few points, but it is a very good performance nonetheless

  • Does anybody happen to have the tabs for this? If you do could you please send them to me.

  • i have a guitar pro of it. accurate.

  • can you send it to me?

  • asss

  • i saw stu at a clinic... wicked player, really arrogant tho

  • This song is great. Hamm didn't trade song quality for technicality; the riffs are great, not just technical.

  • please can somebody explain what chors is he using? btw great video i love stuart hamm

  • he is using bass chords, cliff burton used em too and lemmy still does. the simplest form of bass chords is like holding a eletric guitar power chord but always start your rout on the A string because on the E you get lots of fret buzz

  • you Cant o.o....The chord right around the....idk,the main line? its E E B F# which is 2 octaves if im not mistaken

    its Open E, A7 D9 G11

  • well idk, that was just what i thought, he is using a load of great stuff to do a great bass solo

i aint too great on takin ppls solos apart to see what there made of

    so i dont know

  • :P i actually know how to play most of this...aside from the crazy breakdown part xD

  • It's Hard to tap on a bass and I actually really liked this arrangement and the melody for just a bass guitar. It almost was like bass and a little GUITAR. Nice solo. loved it.

  • he'd better get a better haircut:))

  • This is sadly (Especially for Stu I'm sure ha ha) one of his messiest performances, shame it was for a lesson video too. Guess he just wasn't on the top of his game that day

  • I hope everyone has checked out Micheal Manring. He's the next level imo.

  • absolutely amazing, i just get completely lost in it.

  • BEAUTIFUL.....

  • In my opinion He is tied with Jaco pastorious for best bass player I have ever heard, If anyone knows anyone better please tell me

  • Well if you enjoy this kind of music I'd say chek out Victor Wooten if you haven't heard of him yet. But if you're into rock also, check out Geddy Lee and Les Claypool

  • I love both Geddy Lee and Les Claypool, I saw rush live almost a year ago, it was a great concert, I want to see Les Claypool really bad, I have heard of Victor Wooten but never looked him up

  • Look up anything by Victor Wooten, i promise you won't be disappointed

  • I remember learning this years ago on my 4-string, and I recently re-learned it with my 6-string. Now that I know more about musical composition than I did when first learning it, I've really come to appreciate the theory behind this piece. Stuart Hamm is a genius, and is such a great role model.

  • its beautiful

i live for bass lines like this

  • That is because despite being mostly tapping, it is still the bass line to the song. The actual song has a guitar line which develops the tune.

  • Oh, thank you for clearing that up for me. That makes perfect sense.

  • very very nice melodic sound and very relaxing

  • Amazing song, really well constructed.

  • stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • thats beatiful!!! I can play this too! but not the whole song :D (and not only the intro ;) ) hehe

  • If anyone has the tabs to this or knows a place to get them you should post it up, I found them once and was learning it...but can't find any now. I like this tap style, and if anyone knows any other bassists who play this way...share the wealth.

  • If you like solo bass playing, you have to check out Victor Wooten. Also, give a dander at "Instrumedley" in Dream Theater Live at Budokan to see some serious bass playing.

  • Ultimate Guitar has em.

  • @FalseHeartsLie Stu Hamm: Slap, Pop & Tap for the Bass - you can rent the dvd from netflix

    or check out amazon etc

Stu Hamm: Slap, Pop & Tap for the Bass (dvd)

    its from hotlicks

  • Normally i would have watched this for a few seconds and then change it to something else...

i couldn't help but watch the whole thing...

    beautiful

  • Stu Hamm IS a great bassist hes great the best.

  • Comment removed

  • The best 5 minuets of my life

  • Stu is the shit....The intro and main riff are actually not too difficult its the last part thats the bitch

  • He plays bass like its fucking piano. This song is beautiful.

  • OMG

    Stu reads PKD

(and named a song after his best novel)

  • Cant believe i saw him live.

  • 3:38

  • such a awesome song and does remind me of nintendo music

  • 1:07

  • is he HUMAN ? omg

  • Stu Hamm rules

  • This song makes my Tears flow...lol 5/5!!!!

  • ah Stu rocks!

  • reminds me of nintendo

Like the secret of Mana or a link to the past stlye, might just be me :)

  • is the bass in D tuning?

  • no its in standard tuning.

  • i see thnks buddy..

  • you're right thnks buddy (:

  • no it's in standard

  • this is perfect

  • awesome!

    although repidative it's really good^^

  • Are you using a compressor pedal or something ? This sounds amazing, it needs a lot of practice and it's beautiful =')

  • Stuart you are my god!

  • same i learned it pretty easy by ear.

  • i can do it all but the damn solo, i can play but keep losing rhythm even with a metronome. anyway i love this song

  • This actually isn't that complicated. I'm not terribly advanced on bass but I learned this in about 30 minutes...

It's beuaty lies not in it's technical ability but it's hauntinly creative melody.

  • I agree and then some.

  • Tapping's not easy :/

  • No, but it's not that hard either.

Actually I found out that this song can be played finger style too. It's pretty fun to the very end of C B E on the main bass line of this song with a thumb slap though
