  • This is the correct tempo for Reverie. In my opinion, I like it slower. But the tempo that Debussy has, it is meant to go faster than you would think.

  • too fast, out of tempo in some parts, beautiful nonetheless

  • If you were truly playing this piece from the Heart it would be memorized.

  • this is so beautiful!

  • This is my favorite intreperation of Reverie on youtube. I love the motion you give to this piece. You give it wonderful coloring and a bring a new dimension to it without robbing it of its inherient musical design. I love it. I haven't been able to play it anyother way since watching your vid, and I am very thatnkful for that. Wonderful job. Wonderful.

  • I don't see why people are complaining so much about how he plays it! If you took a random person who didn't know anything about this song or piano, they would say this is beautiful and i agree. If you think you could do a better job, post a video of you playing this yourself.

  • Do you learn piano by yourself?

Maybe I can suggest you to stop playing with your fingers and start playing with your heart and mind.

This is what makes us different than robots.

  • Does anyone know if dere is a website or smth that i can find information for this piece? Its for the viva voce for my piano exam. Thx :)

  • i can hear rubato(unnecessary ones) + rush, relax, no ones goin to say ur bad or watever, jus play the song nicely. Careful of ur pedalling as well, tis piece is not a sudden staccato.

  • Love the second version, this is lovely, but thank you for the 2nd version.

  • I learned this when I was 11. I am 12 now. May I suggest that you could slow it down just a bit, it's a romantic song, not a race. I know I am in no place to critisize, but just some thoughts to put out there. I try doing it by memory ( I saw you turn the page) I learned this song in 7 months and preformed it by memory.

  • but eventhough its a little bit fast...its still nice...i still love it....

  • I would prefer it to have a more "weightless touch". Nice work though!

  • bit fast.? no.?

  • At the beginning main melody then when it's repeated you're syncopating each note, when they're not supposed to be. 1:11-1:14

  • I love this most of all. I'm too impatient &'

I much prefer this faster version. Keep

up the good work. Now, if i could just

find a faster "Claire de Lune."

  • Good but too fast... let the music ring out.. enjoy it. No need to rush on such a short piece. :)

  • too fast.

  • agreed

  • excellent performance, good speed.

  • I just LOVE 1:10 - 1:20. This is one of the best parts of the song! <3

  • I really love this piece....well Debussy is one of my favourite composers so...xD But yeah, I think the speed is good, if it is slower it can become boring although if it's even faster it'll have no emotion, I like it :) but there's something I need to tell you, but please don't be mad, you can just try this out: try to variate the speed in some parts and also exagerate on Fortes/Pianos like you were gonna die or something! :D

I loved to study this Reverie...please continue! :)

  • You played this very beautifully!

  • Not bad.. but please.. in my humble opinion this song requires such a careful, elegant touch and, at most parts, a much slower tempo.

  • Very nicely played. I meant to buy the sheet music for this today, it would be a nice one to play.

  • good technic but i would say a little too fast at the beggining ,,, and a little bit more emotion but you played it very well... im still getting this piece im almost done... so i cant talk much ..lol but thats what i think

  • the most beautiful performance on youtube i think for reverie

  • The tempo is ok at certain points, but it's ok the vary it. Clearly, this is a good performance, however it feels a little dry. It lacks the emotion that is intrinsic to Debussy, in my opinion.

  • you played beautifully but i feel that it's a bit fast...

  • absoulutely amazing!

  • B....E....A.....UTIFUL i like this song

  • Too Fast

  • This is definitely one one of my favorite videos on youtube...you are amazing...I have been taking lessons for almost 2 months now...I can't wait until I am able to play as lovely as you do!! : )

  • Demasiado rápida!!! en mi opinion, estropea el ecanto,es más lenta y expresiva

  • I KNOW A PART OF THIS SONG. i don't know where i heard it: 2:10 ?? wasnt that in a disney movie?

  • perfect, I just sat and listened, So clear and articulate...Perfect tempo.....Amazing 5/5

  • Where's the applause :)

  • beauuuuuuuuutiful

  • half note = 52.

it says it on the dang music.

    get over yourself

    Its amazing mdbownds

    keep em coming

  • I'm working on this piece, so I'm microanalyzing...... please delete my comment if you don't like it - I won't be hurt.

I hold the Van Cliburn recording of this piece as the "Gold Standand", so I strive to emulate it. I prefer his mild use of tempo rubato and his gentle interpretation of the melody from the LH to the RH.

Also, VC's recording is distinct in the subtlety of the staccato on page 3. You might also like his dynamics in this recording..... very evocative and dreamlike.

  • Very cool! I like your style on this tune.

Check out my channel, which has some of my own compositions. I would love to compose something for you.

  • So beautiful! My Brother in law played DeBussy music when I was a young girl which brought it with so much emotion that I will never stop loving these pieces!!

  • I think it sounds good at this speed!

  • Comon, stop complaining about the speed! Jeez if it bothers you that much watch another fucking video.

    Great interpretation.

  • they is good, but i agree, its a bit fast

  • Comment removed

  • I believe that it's very refreshing to hear this piece played a bit up tempo, and this is a beautiful interpretation. Both of your versions are, this one inparticular because I think you still tell the same story that Debussy intended while telling it in a different way. Innovative, fresh, origional and very, very well played. Bravo and Encore!!

  • i think its too fast too.. the metric doesnt go with the period of debussy.. the way to write this pieces was metric cos its the right way to write a piece no? but the way to play it is not metric its more.. Mmm feeling? i dont know.. but you played it good ^^

  • Thank You very good I love this piece

  • Very good! I love Debussy and you did very well

  • that is the reverie feeling but played to fast

  • wow you paly debussy so well ..

i'm learning reverie but it's so complicate ..

  • Bravo! The most beautiful music!Good

work playing piano! This is like a wonderful dream!I love it!

  • Nice playing, but the beginning had WAY too much rubato :-)

  • Debussy is so beautiful

    you play really good

  • Don't rush! It's a beautiful song, but when you miss a note it ruins all you're building for.

  • absolutely beautiful. so moving

  • Genial!

  • What type of piano is that (make/size) and can I have it?

  • its a Royal,I think its a Steinway...or a Petrof!:)

  • muy bueno!!

  • good!

  • Es simplemente.... preciosa

  • I really liked it.

Why, when I played it for the first time, it sounded so boring that I wanted to give up.

now, I wanna finish this song badly so I can play it like him,.

  • very well done!

  • Ya, thats definitely not Clair de Lune...get your facts straight. Anyways, you played it very well 'mdbounds.'

  • Nice job, I only wish the audio is louder

  • i must say you did a fantastic job, being a pianist myself.

but i also must say that "andantino sans lenteur" (without dragging)does not mean play as fast as possible. Yes, Debussy loved expression but you lose it with your speed.

slow it down a little and you have a killer track =)

  • ohmygoodness i play that song too but dude you did an amazing job!!!

  • I adore your version of this, listen to it all the time. Thankyou :)

  • Although you played the piece wonderfully, an important aspect of impressionist era compositions was the pauses. If you do not slow down, you miss the point of the music almost entirely. Regardless, you are still a magnificent pianist and I enjoyed the video.

  • I continue to be surprised that so many reviewers do not note the (compare with version II) comment in the title of the posting. version II is in response to comments on the more rapid pace this first version.

  • Dunno if you can edit the description of the video, but if you can, then explain it there, more people would notice.

  • this song is awesome

  • I am playing this piece currently! Nice job! Hope I can play it as nicely as you!

  • awesome but too fast.. the song i have heard slows down at some points ..then speeds up.. i liked listening though

  • Nice job, and what a lovely piece.

  • The piano is a Steinway model B.

  • I want your piano... what kind is it?

  • WOW

  • PERFECT!! :D

  • you are awesome!!!!!

  • perfect tempo and dynamics. I used this as an example and I just finished the song. Thanks. I personally like it better than the slower version. I feel like this version engages the audience more rather than put them to sleep. But both versions are beautiful regardless.

  • Absolutely beautiful. Rock on

  • Very good. Bravo! My favorite composer is Debussy and you do him proud. Continue the great work and thank you for the enjoyment your playing gave me.

  • beatiful man. such a gorgeous piece. great job.

  • you did very well.

but i do agree that it is sort of monotoned in some places but it's fine. it's still very beatiful.

  • shouldn't forgot it is not chopin, but Debussy. its impressionism, not romanticism, it's the clime what matters more than the melody. i think he did it excellent.

  • I'm learning that, im learning the bass first and its really hard i need tips!!

  • ok, overall it's pretty good but you really have to mind the dynamics!!!!! It sounded really monotone and places where you should of really brought it out, you didn't. also what happened to the half notes on bar 63?? You played them quarter notes...as everyone is saying, it is a little fast, which is ok if that's how you like it, however, you sped up from the beginning tempo so be careful!

  • You do play well. I must admit that I only found out about Debussy because of Twilight. But since then he has become a serious competitor for my favorite piano composer (Chopin beware!). Great job, keep it up.

  • same!! thank you twilight!!! i really LOVE debussy now!

  • me too! i no cant get enogh of debussy

  • Hmm... at least Twilight did something useful for the world.

  • yepp^^ i agree

  • hahaha yesyes:)

  • Debussy is my fave classical composer and you do him proud.

  • CHILL OUT AND GO SLOWER!!!!!!!!

  • I listened to the 2nd version and actually prefer this one. It doesn't sound too fast to me. It seems just right. I am using this version as my example as I practice.

    Keep up the beautiful playing

  • my god sir....Debussy would be proud that his music could be reproduced so exactly...and i am happy that i could have heard a recreation of a legend!!! thank you for that.

  • Your technique is really awesome, it REALLY fits your hands.

    Awesome playing, five stars =D

  • too fast...dont get stressed, enjoy the music

  • Don't speed up, just keep it relaxed and smooth. You've got amazing fingers

  • You have amazing talent.

This song is so lovely. I enjoy the story that it tells.

  • with Debussy's music

you can reach and touch the stars.

you play it wonderful. keep well.

  • sublime

  • Nicely done. In this age of electronics it's wonderful to see what hands-on practice can achieve. Even turning the sheet music at a natural break is something to onsider. Nice tone, lovely.

  • is this easier than claire de lune?

  • a little to fast , but superb indeed

  • a masterful and sensitive rendition of a musical masterpiece. debussy's gifts and genius are ineffable.

  • I'm currently working on learning how to play this piece. You really captured the flow and mood of the piece. I hope I can play just as well. It was beautiful.

  • Hmm. Seems a little fast. Great technique though

  • Claude Debussy is a Genius.

  • beautiful

  • That's pretty sweet man, I'm a trumpet player that's working up a transcribed version of this piece.

  • lets hear yours.

  • totally agree

  • beautiful song and amazing pianist

  • I LOOOOVEEEEE Debussy. Thank you for sharing!

  • my gosh, i envy you.. i would LOVE to play like that. I love the sound of the piano.. its so relaxing. ^_^ and you play so well! i took piano lessons when i was younger, but never learned to play especially well. i can play a few songs, and read basic music, but no more. and what i CAN do and read is out of practice and rusty.. i'm so jealous. lol ^_^ beautiful...

  • I envy you. My playing is so rusty, it would make Debussy weep in embarassment. But yours on the other hand is impeccable! You're extremely good.

  • iactually just finished this song.. no easy feat...very well done!

  • your piano is steinway and sons 1/4 ?

  • It is a Steinway model B, seven feet long -

  • the difficult point is the left hand am I right ?

  • I suppose the left hand requires more even playing and control than the right, but I don't really think of them as being that different.

  • well done dude :)

  • Good job. Congratulations. I like your version.

  • I think I must make a comment. I welcome critical comments, such as "You rush too much...".... It was in fact in response to such comments that I recorded a version II of this piece, and suggest in the title that the two performance be compared. isteveisquared does not indicate whether he listened to this second recording. The declining civility of subsequent comments is unfortunate, and I think inappropriate.

  • Gah. fine. didn't notice the "compare with piece". I'll compare, and make a more pleasant comment, I promise. P:

  • sorry for being rude.

  • :O I was called a cretin! P: Lol.

Me, jealous? song isn't so hard so far, should have it learned in no time.

It's okay. Lets just enjoy this song.

  • Unpleasant commentators? The comment function serves the purpose of letting viewers express their opinions. I had just done so. your comment was unpleasant in the fact that you were complaining. hypocrit.

  • i want all those allknowing unpleasant commentators to post the videos of their versions so that we can compare. if,not, then shut up, eff off and let the music roll. comprendo?

  • You rush too much. Debussy didn't mean for people to speed up and slow down his pieces as such.

  • Such as a peaceful performance...

You've brought a dreamful feeling out.

  • ..Too rushed for my taste. Also too rigid. Debussy needs to breath and sigh. The end of phrases need to have a small moment of extra time before you begin another phrase.

  • Beautiful sir !!!

Giusto ??

  • i love this piece

    played it before

  • This is one of my favorite pieces and I did my school project on it. I started it last year but had to postpone because my hand was too small! Thank you for posting! :)

  • I've only just heard Deussy now! I think this guy may oust Uematsu and Paganini as my favourite composers.

  • well I think most of the players, playing it too slow, I like this version very much, because there's enough "dreamy" effect by just the melody, no need to push by playing it too slow.

  • you're playing it a little fast cause its spposed to be kind of dreamy. its a nice song to play though

  • thanks!

  • Master of beauty

  • On the rain drop section where the melody comes back in slow it down and make it sound like it is trickling. Really bring out that melody.

  • Is the beginning in a game or movie? I think I've heard it before.

  • yeah, me too...if it's not it should be. I can feel the credits in the background

  • That's possible! I discoverder this music in "Gran Turismo 4"! However this is not this version! In that game this is a duet Piano/Violoncello.

  • Do you know the game i am talking to you about?

  • its from the movie oceans 11 its the scene where there all standing and watching the fountains.

  • wait scratch that lol

  • er...no

  • Uh... no, it's not.

  • Lol... wrong

  • You, sir, are not correct.

  • Beautifully played!

  • OMG, this was my grade 8 exam pieces in 1997, i played it like a robot '.' Thanx for the inspiration, i want to redo this pieces

  • This was really good! I'm playing this song for a contest and I was just seeing how other people played. I play this a lot slower than you just did so I'm going to work on the speed =P

  • like 2 blubs but its gorgeous. you really did a great job with this peice :)

  • its just beautifull!!!

  • outstanding job! i am working on the same piece, and this is such an inspiration! beautifully played. well done, well done.

what i've heared from this is more piecy, but mhmm not to critisise because it was beautiful, is to just let the piece breathe a bit more.
