  • I have nothing against them .. It was very common in the 1950 's .. I remembered when I was a teenager I listened to my friend 's stories .. It was interested .. Back in the 50 's SSI hadn't created yet .. AlsoThey had no job @ that time .. Most companies were not willing to hire deaf to work .. What would they do for a living .. So they had to sell the ABC cards for their living .. I understood competely .. Today Some people still do .. I don't mind at all .. They have their own life .. : )

  • Thank you

  • I agree with you 100% I have seen many HEARING peddlers selling things for their livings. Do they turn against them? Of course not! Why do Deaf people turn against the Deaf peddlers who are working so hard to support their livings and they do not commit a crime. There are some vendor licenses available to the Deaf peddlers to get in British Columbia. Your discussion is great!

  • Deafpeddling is equal to panhandling in my opinion. One doing that is preying on the pity of others for money--I once gave a deaf peddler 5 dollars for a poorly printed sign language paper. It's asking people for money...asking people for money.

  • You made the decision if you want to make a donation or not. :)

  • @FookemBug Yep. Still equates to pan-handling, and someone without a sense of shame would have to take up the practice.

  • Fookembug, it is not 1950's. I am talking about present and still today as of 2010 and 2011 and continue. However, it has not change one bit. We still need to educated to Deaf Pedders not to use ABC card, but use other kind of product, one thing pre-cued card on the back saying about Deaf not able to find job and asking for help. Remove that Pre-cued card too..well, it still today...

  • Not only Deaf people are doing this, I have seen some hearing people who act like deaf try to sell ABC card, too.

Off the point, do we have to teach homeless people to find a job?

  • @FookemBug , well... I have seen few Deaf that sell ASL card and Back of the card asking on the pre-cued card. OH well, teaching the Homeless to find a job, it would be nice, but I have seen many Hearing can be deciving two Faces, wether he is homeless or have home single or family...Is that something. I never seen Deaf peope do that but Hearing...is that Ironic?

  • HI, speaking of Deaf Pedders. it is against the law to be pedders in such as ABC Sign Language for a dollar or so. How do Hearing view us if we are Deaf pedders, they would view us as pity because we are Deaf and unable to get a jobs. we dont need their Pity. it has to stop Deaf pedders and tell them use the products, not ABC Card of Sign Language.

  • Like I told everyone else that I talked about 1950's, not today. Get it?

  • During 1960-1970s, I have met several peddlers in Chicago, Ocean City (MD) and Santa Monica (CA) and I just respected them except those parents who pursued their own minors - I have encountered several kids with bad teeth, health problems, etc. - they told me they needed money because their "boss" parents told them to beg!

  • I dont understand ASL, can someone tell me this guy's opinion on the issue ?

  • @biggrigga

Hi, you need to go to our blog site and type 'deaf peddlers' in search box as there is a transcription for you to read what it is all about.

  • Hi thanks for vlog! I just watched another one from Starbeam227 ;o) Good point...peddlers are making effort every day. There was an ABC card peddler about 2 mos ago at my local WalMart (2010)...so still some out there... Take care! SH

  • Impressed with your vlog about deaf peddlers. I am with you about "respect their job." Thanks for it!

  • that is true! respect their jobs. no matter to me.Smile!!!

  • I agree with you. Let deaf peddler go and earn their better . Beacause hearing people earn more money than deaf people! Deaf people earn limit. I know life is hard for deaf people. I understand deaf people need money for better life.

Please respect deaf people peddlers. Leave deaf people alone. Let deaf people go. Hearing people were trying to push me out. That is sad. Too much abuse me by hearing people. I rather peddler for peaceful than work with hearing people.

  • I understand about deaf peddlers but they do not get pay tax after with working earn money like others normal have a job but I know that deaf peddlers do earn up to 1,000 a day that why they should find a better job and ABC cards are suppose to be FREE for anyone to learn signs not to charge them ! now it is against law and I dont see any more deaf peddlers like 10 years ago

  • Ok, what about self-employed? They did not pay tax either.

  • ABC card can be abusive. Unless a person make his or her own ABC cards which is different. Make an ABC card is like a make a product to sell. HOT deaf peddlers now are in Thailand.

  • Impossible to make 1,000 dollars a day thru sell ABC cards unless that person is in NYC and kept going to the every person that pass him or her to read to give the money that would make 1,000 dollars a day BUT in real life, Can anybody got a dollar from 1,000 people per day. Be beware of deaf peddler with limit of education tends made up the story "just to impress" In reality,...

  • Deaf Peddler went to the Walmart or Kmart will make about 30 to 60 dollars for less three hours. That is average of deaf peddler earn. Top earn should be at the state fairground or festivals because there are lots of people which would make about less 300 dollars a day. How do I know? I heard ton of stories from deaf peddlers. Deaf Peddler will never stop.

  • Im just wonderin because few years ago a friend i know got arrest for peddling Im like wow and i see your vlog and i thoght id like to ask you that question if you dont mind Thanks HH

  • I speak of a long time ago like in 1950's. It is illegal today unless they have license to sell then it is no problem.

  • ahhh OK Thank you so much for your time for responding : )

  • I agree with you but isnt peddling illegal?
