The Twelve was very interesting comic book. What it's like for the heroes who fought in World War II to wake up in the world where superheroes fought each other, and their war buddy Captain America was accused of treason and shot? No united world, no colonies on Yupiter, space travels controlled by superheroes, millions dying from hunger and diseases - and Fantastic Four uses their incredible technoligies to clone Thor or to build a prison in Negative Zone. Who wants this future? Not me.
One of these day, Pete is going to loose it in the studio! Alex and Justin tease him constantly (which I find funny too and spices it up!). The dynamics are one of the reasons I watch..aside from comics of course. I watch Comic Book Club too and that is even more hilarious and even better 'cause its improvised and much longer.
comics have gone over alot of real world issues ever since green arrow-green lantern in the 1970's but i can't think of an underage drinking storyline. even ultimate ironman didn't drink till he was 21.
maybe we need an issue of teen titans involving some cheap cider, a parkbench and robin needing his stomach pumped.
I drank more when I was underage than I do now. It was like I had to get it out of my system early or something. Not that getting drunk when your body is too young to really handle it is a totally rad idea or anything. I just think it's kind of a complicated issue. I would love to see a mainstream comic pull of a decent underage drinking story, but I don't see it happening. Just the term 'undeage drinking' in a story brings back lame Dawson memories.
I just dont agree that comics arent a forum for nuanced exploration, at all. They have been, and they can be and still are in some cases. Im not trying to be harsh, but that kind of generalization is pretty shocking.
I assume you just mean DC and Marvel comics, in which case I would still disagree, but to nail that on the whole medium is short sighted and provably false.
Still love the show. Especially Pete, STAY STRONG PETE!
@erislaughs: No, you're totally right... I think we should have specified "Mainstream, Marvel & DC, superhero comics." We've actually discussed this a lot before, both here, and on our live show, and the general conclusion is that most comics writers aren't sensitive enough to know how to handle it. I'll mention the issue of Alpha Flight where Northstar come out of the closet. Bully to the writers for letting him do so. Boo to them for doing it in such a clunky way.
Moon Knight dealt with gay relationships pretty well. Pluse were I live underage drinking isnt a problem. Its just there ya know. You dont really think of it as illage or badass or w/e people just do it. Did I? Well that neither here nor there. lolz jkin no I havent.
Hey guys, I'll borrow your first and second issue of The Twelve!
If I remember correctly there have been some Marvel comics (Spiderman comes to mind) that dealt with issues like drug abuse and other stuff fairly well even though it was supposed to be a taboo subject in comics. Perhaps some issues are still taboo?
QUESTION - Do each of you guys have a ring with a special power and when you need a lot of help you form your powers together to form Captain Stack? Just wondering!
You guys manage to humiliate Pete every episode. I imagine that at some point in the future he's just going to say "screw it" and leave. He'll be replaced and the show will never be the same.
great show, guys. I think Punisher tackes a lot of social problems, actually- especially the "slave traders" story which really got to me (I live in E.Europe).
could you have a guest psychiatrist to work up a couple of psychological profiles for our favorite superheroes? like Spidey's peter-pan complex, Hulk's sexual problematics or MoonKnight's parental issues/psychosis?
I'm not sure of the exact issue number (I all but dropped the series) but what do you think about the upcoming story arc w/ Spidey fighting Mary Ja-- I meant "someone who looks like Mary Jane, and is calling herself 'Jackpot'?"
Love the show guys. I have used your suggestions in purchasing comics as I'm just getting back into the art. But that does bring up one question. You always talk about story and arch, but only mention the artwork. Who do you think are the hot artists out there now, and why?
I'm really having a hard time understanding what Alex is saying. He sounds like he's mumbling. Unlike Pete and Justin who speaks so clearly. but still, pretty awesome reviews guys! totally like Twelve.
I've felt that before as well. And this isn't anything against him because I feel his reviews are always really interesting, I just have a hard time understanding him sometimes.

I think JSA is one of the best team themed magazines on the market right now. JLA is suffering, and Avengers is missing something right now.

Hey guys, I was wondering what you're most looking forward to or which you think will be better out of DC's Final Crisis or Marvel's Secret Invasion?

Things I remember because I'm a nerd: Generation X tackled under-age drinking. Husk was kind of a lush for a few issues there.
