I am only looking forward to seeing your cameo in the new movie, Mr. Frid. It goes without saying I think, that no one could ever play Barnabas as beautifully as you did.
I'm 28 years old and I've been a fan of yours since I was about 10 years old. You made Barnabas Collins one of my favorite characters
One ordinary day in '67, a little school friend told me to go home and watch DS; there was going to be a vampire on the show. She was clearly excited, so I did as I was told while wondering how she knew this wonderous TV fact before it even happened. And as an adult, I understand fully that you, Mr. Frid, gave us an enduring performance to treasure. You are superb. --Kristine
I cannot wait to see this Movie !!! It is too long in coming ! I was just 10 years old when I first saw Dark Shadows and to this day am a MAJOR fan. Mr Frid , thank you so very much for your wonderful performances.
I sent a request to the person who runs your website. If it cannot be responded to , I completley understand but wanted to say Thank you , thank you for all you have given the fans. Dark Shadows will be with us always , just as the 33 1/3 album song says :-)
Mr. Frid, Thank you so much for Dark Shadows and making the clearest memories of my childhood. I could not wait to get home and turn on that B/W TV for the next episode of DS!! Countless hours of enjoyment, and now I've found DS on NetFlix so I introduced my girlfriend to it and she became hooked within a few episodes. We're just wrapping up Collection 4 and looking forward to viewing all the episodes as soon as we can get our hands on them. Merry Christmas and best wishes in the coming yer!
I sure enjoyed this. I hope you enjoy your beautiful looking new home, Mr. Frid.
Since this is my first time writing, I wonder if I might ask of you a huge favor?
If you still have them, would consider showing we fans who have always wondered what they look like, the fang dentures that you used during Dark Shadows? I know that at one time, when you were on the Dick Cavett show, you held them, but I didnt get to see the program as I was in school when it aired.Thank you and blessings on you!
We thank you for doing this video to catch up us fans. We are thinking of you during your birthday month and wishing you the all the best in the coming year! So hoping Johnny Depp stays true to his word about your interpretation of Barnabas being right and something he does not want to stray from. Thanks again for keeping in touch with us all by youtube.
hey jonathan i am 47 years old and seen my first dark shadows episode about 6 months ago on netflix and since the have become completely hooked. ive recently viewed up to the color episodes beginning. i am sure netflix has alot to do with some of the renewed interest in the show. it sure got me thank you for this gift i find the show just fascinating thank you
Dear J.F. My daughter is now the third generation to be watching the very same series I saw with my mom in its original run. My daughter is a voracious reader since she first learned to read, so it says a lot that the story ol Collinwood and its denizens would be nothing short of the longest running best seller in all history and she was loving it. I bet my grandkids will to :)
Mr Frid, God bless you with the best of health and prosperity. From all us millions. Happy Holidays
As with the movie House of Dark Shadows which was fantastic, a movie is only two hours long and can't do justice to this story! So I think the series will catch on with young people who will love it as much as we did (are). I can see them sitting around watching it in groups, reacting to the story as it weaves along. I remember how hard it was to sit through a commercial when it originally aired, the suspense was so great. What a cast! I'm looking forward to the new movie, though.
You were my crush when I was 16 and I've recently spent some time recovering from some issues and those old episodes have made that easier. They are great fun. I hope you know that many of your fans (now in our 60's) never forgot and have remained loyal. Christinbe
Thank you for taking the time to share your life. You have filled many empty voids with reason and inspired many of us. May the best of everything always be yours.
Thank you Jonathan Frid for sharing with your 'fans' how you are doing. I just recently began re-watching Dark Shadows with my family. I too was another youngster who would watch the show after school. What an amazing life this show has taken over the years. Wish you all the best and in adjusting to the changes that life brings. God Bless you!
@valjazz - Thank you for your suggestion. I just watched the pre Barnabas "Beginning" episodes for the first time and it was great to re-experience the arrival of Barnabas at the end of that section. Although, the series gained fame with Barnabas; no one should make the mistake of not watching the earlier episodes. Lots of surprises! So enjoyable. I never saw the whole series, so a lot of it is new to me. I am also loving the later readings. Mr. Frid keeps giving of his 'excellent talent!'
Wow, a very active and current fan base! I just love your work, blogs and writings, Mr. Frid! An excellent talent :)
I'm sure the movie is reinvigorating interest in Dark Shadows, but I'm (fairly) young at 31, and I can honestly say, my loyalty is to the series which my mom grew up watching & loving.
As a DS/Frid fan, receiving the first collection of Barnabas episodes years ago was the best gift ever from someone dear and obviously thoughtful. But my unspoken thought was: where is the rest of it? I, too, share the re-watchers' absolute joy and would love to know what the purchasers of the whole set recommend (rather than buying by individual collection.)
@kehara1000 I honestly recommend getting the entire collection (Amazon had it for as little as $25.00 a volume). I' m going back to collect the "Beginning" (pre-Barnabas episodes). Dark Shadows one of the all time grate TV shows, as both art and artifact.
Mr. Frid! Oh my God I am so glad you are still alive and you look great! There are tears in my eyes as I watch this! I watched Dark Shadows when I was like 4 years old in the late '60s and then in '75 when it came back on TV and then in LA in the mid-'80s and then in NY in the late '90s, watching again and again! You look fantastic and I wish you well and many more years of happiness! You rock, Mr. Frid!!!
it is wonderful to see you here, Mr. Frid! I was so excited to come home from school in the afternoons to watch Dark Shadows with my Mother. I am now 57 years old. I am thrilled that a Dark Shadows movie is coming out with your cameo appearance. Johnny Depp is a wonderful actor, but you are the only real Barnabas Collins to me! I wish you many blessings in your new home!!!
Jonathan, we met back in NYC in the 80's when I had written a fan letter to WNBC celebrating the return of DS reruns to NYC. If you remember, it went to the VP there and I was then contacted & invited to PR event at Le Magique. Subsequently I had the privilege of being one of several DS fans who watched you test perform your show at your NYC apt. I am now married, semi-retiring and going to Az to teach. You complimented my "intelligent" letter, and I'll always remember your kindness. Best!
I am so thrilled to be able to watch Dark Shadows again. I recently acquired the entire series on DVD. I was only 5 years old when the series premiered but, remember watching it with my sister...when i wasn't too frightened by it! I'm glad to see you are still doing well! Thank you for the many hours of enjoyment i know i will have reliving the fun!
Thank You, Mr. Frid for the memories from coming home in the afternoon from school and watching DS. I am know 53 and I am re-watching the series, tonight I am starting episode 715 so I still have a ways to go, I try and watch 2-3 shows a night. From a fan in Texas.
I'm a new fan; my mother always told me how wonderful Dark Shadows was when she was a kid. I'm 31 now & we're working our way through all the episode son Netflix. I SO enjoy your website, as well! Keep up the good work, Mr. Frid. Still bringing enjoyment to your fans :)
Thank you, Mr. Frid, for taking the time to address your fans. Your time and dedication are most appreciated. I look forward to seeing more updates. Take care and have a lovely day! :-)
I think it's wonderful that you're connecting with your fans like this. Thank you so much! Your thoughts are always of interest to those of us who care so much about knowing the man behind the fangs.
I'm very happy to see this video of you that you recorded only 3 days ago. Thank you for sharing it with us. It will be wonderful to see your cameo in the new Dark Shadows movie. I hope that you are happy and comfortable in your new condominium. Thanks again and I plan on watching all the videos you have posted, dear Mr. Frid!
I'm amazed at the people who go to the festivals. I went only once to see a famous person. It was a surprise outing by my husband and son. Unknown to them I was sick to my stomach standing in front of such a well known face and a perfect stranger at the same time. It really made me ill. I very much enjoyed this video. Intimate and gracious and it didnt' make me ill. LOL I do enjoy reading about the experiences of others who are brave enough to go. It's very kind of them to share.
You look handsome as ever Mr. Frid. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to your many fans. I'm sorry to hear about your accident, and hope you were not injured. Your move, I am certain was a traumatic adjustment. You are an amazing man, and I know that I speak for all your fans when I say thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you do. We truly appreciate it and you!
TheMirrorCracked (uh oh), I share your sentiments exactly. With JF in it, now I MUST see it. V of Hamilton, you are on to something with the 'opening night' idea. I am looking forward to more writings being added to the website. Time to go watch Dark Shadows. It looks like our Barnabas may be about to have to be forced into a confrontation again with his nemesis Angelique (uh oh).
I was lucky to meet him once with someone who was doing some work for him. Very nice gentleman. I'm sorry to hear he had to move and had to give up driving!
Mr. Frid DID try and meet all the people who showed up at the banquet a few years ago, and it was just too much for him. He's 86 for cripes sake. We are VERY lucky to have him show up at all!
@vertblip Exactly! You said it! People have to remember that Jonathan is 86 almost 87 years old, we are very lucky that he is still here with us and that he does all that he does for his Dark Shadows fans. He is getting older and doesn't have the energy or stamana that he had a few years ago. I think it is great what he does for us and how he makes the videos for us and does the readings for us. I am just glad he is still here with us. Jonathan Frid is the greatest. We love you Jonathan.
It's nice to see you on You Tube. However, I attended the Dark Shadows Festival Banquet dinner for the privilege of meeting, and was disappointed that you and David Selby didn't attend. I wanted to meet you face-to-face very badly. I hope I'll have another opportunity in the future. We need to have more festial in the NYC area. I don't know how to get to Tarrytown, even though its in NYS. I also don't have a car.
This is a complete and wonderul surprise...a video message and so new. I hope this will be the first of many. You look and sound wonderful -- and so settled in. What a way to start the day. Thank you!
Very excited about the new movie, and a possibility I can make it to fest next year! The movie is supposed to come out in May, and the fests in LA or Burbank are usually in July, so it should be interesting. How fun that there are cameos in with folks from the original. THANK YOU Mr. Frid for keeping us updated!

The only reason I would go see the new DS film is to see YOU!
Mr. Depp is a wonderful actor but remakes are never as good as the original.
Much respect to you Sir... yes, you should be knighted!
