i have been to berlin only once yet and i think there are more beautiful towns in germany, but as its capital berlin of course has its own, special charme. i guess regarding other country's capitals berlin is quite safe. regarding other german towns, berlin is less safe - not least because it is the biggest german town. i think that only Frankfurt has a higher rate of criminality. have fun there!

these train have a different colour, when i was in berlin the underground was painted bright yellow colour

these trains are s-bahn, while u-bahn (underground) are usually yellow/orange

Berliner city pension, Proskauer Strasse (street) just off Karl Marx Allee, 25 euros per night, clean, friendly and best of all, it's in the beautiful East!!! I've stayed there 3 times and am going back at Easter.
