There were some art errors throughout Transformers G1. You said the dead robot who looks like Wheeljack was supposed to be Smokescrean. Brawn was another autobot who died, yet he's seen in an episode in season 3. Honestly, I believe they are both dead despite the art blunders. The great war in the 1986 movie was meant to indicate that many of the autobots died just as some decepticons like Shockwave died after Unicron attacked Cybertron...no wonder there were so many new characters in season 3.

On the movie commentary, Chris McFeely seems to agree with you on the whole 'not turning grey' theory, and I think I do too. After all, Wheeljack was too cool to die.

Also, Ginrai and Prime are not the same character, the transtector (body) that Ginrai inhabits was originally meant for Prime, but due to the events of Masterforce, Ginrai ended up with that body instead.

Wheeljack was a favorite of mine as well, and I was (and still am) thoroughly upset with how he was treated in the movie. If he HAD to die...he could have at least had a decent death scene. As sad as it is, I still believe he is dead, due to his name being listed in the mausoleum (if I remember correctly) and then it getting sent into a sun...therefore no body to revive. How he wound up in Victory I have no idea. But in the hearts of his fans, he'll live on to blow stuff up another day.

Blaster and Percepter are both second wave Autobots, as are the Dinobots, Arielbots, and Protectobots. Omega Supreme was mentioned in Season 3 as "being on a mission" and I think he appeared in one episode just so writers could prove he lived.

I am also nearly sure that Frenzy and Menasor (And his component Transformers) where all seen in FIVE FACES OF DARKNESS Parts 1-5 and after.

If you mean where did they go after this, Most Transformers that lived through the "86 film where simply "phased out" in favor of characters whose toys where on the shelves.

He did reappear during Takara Headmasters however, So technically he does reappear within G1 continuity. (Although, He does not say anything and is only there for the first few episodes, However, Good to know he is there, lol)

Actually, they didn't die. They were just defective and could be repaired but neither the Autobots, nor the Decepticons have the technical skills to repair Transformers. Quintesson Judge repaired Optimus in a couple of hours, even though he was supposedly dead. The Quintessons could've revived all deceased Autobots and even Starscream if they would.

So, there is at least two ways in which to revive a transformer and more than likely many more.

The Quintessons used spare parts of dead Autobots for Optimus Prime in the last episodes of season 3 but if they had the access to the original factory on Cybertron they could've easily repair them all. Soundwave and Blaster were gone too, but they repaired them to become Soundblaster and Twincast.
