They really hammer in the repetition early. As long as it took for this remake to actually happen, I can't help but wonder if they'd worked out the mechanics a bit more (charge attack accuracy and fluidity, variety for the QTE kills, etc.) then it'd actually be a lot better than it is. As a fan of the series overall, it doesn't disappoint but it's not without flaws.
