being 14 drunk and stoned at the palladium in NYC back in 78, this is exactly the way they looked and sounded to me in the 10th row, thanks for sharing loved it.
on the higher quality video you can see that Rob is wearing the same thing he was wearing during the Dreamer Deceiver video from the 1975 BBC sessions.
I can't understand why but this sounds a million times better than 'Unleashed'...everything is balanced, Rob Halford's vocals are there in their crystal glass clarity and the rest just bobs along perfectly. What the hell ever happened to 'Unleashed'-the worst sounding live album ever....?
This is taken off of the BEST live Priest album of them all, "Unleashed in The East", which was recorded in Japan and released in 1979. This song and 'The Green Manalishi"(Fleetwood Mac) are the only covers that I can think of that Judas Priest has done offhand that Judas Priest has done. Joan Baez suprisingly wrote this song!!!
@detroitdemon I love that song!!! "Stanied Class" is probably my second favorite Priest album after "Unleashed in the East". A close third would be "Hell Bent for Leather" or "Sin After Sin". They kinda lost my personal tastes after "Screaming For A Vengeance". However, I do have a DVD boot of Priest in Germany in '83 that kicks ass. I'm more of the old-school metal. Thanks for the info!
@metalriff11 This old drummer say Les Binks...wow I use to lay on my living room floor and dream I was in Japan. I wore this album out. The best most important record for me. And I love Van Halen 1 and moving pictures by Rush. This is pure heavy blues Rock. Thank you......
@metalriff11 material yes brilliant, sound quality and production was and is the worst I've ever come across in 30 years plus of me enjoying Rock/Heavy Metal-a very big shame and possibly the biggest missed opportunity in the history of heavy metal.
@MetalxGoDsx3 Hate to break your heart, but this whole album (Unleashed In The East) was retouched in the studio after the fact. Worked with a fellow that was a roadie for Priest for years, and he told me that they were not happy with what ended up on the tapes, so they re-did most of the tracks in a studio. So "Unleashed In The East" is not a true live performance. And I am a big fan of the group, so I feel your pain!
thank you. what a beautiful song from them. this is historic and wether its perfect or not we get the point of who they were and what pioneers they were. once again, thank you.
Both Sabbath and Priest started pretty similar with dark lyrics played in slow tempo or more festive rock songs. They evolved differently with Sabbath producing songs about war and drugs (kind of political), great riffs and songs, but if you play a Sabbath song it typically has a slow tempo. I think it was Iommi who said they proved slow could still be heavy. Priest moved toward a mix of fast rock and catchy tunes that could be played on radio. But they kept dark and this mix became heavy metal.
