PET (Not PETE) plastic is the most recycled :/, don't think they just send them to landfills :P...LOL...
Also...if that plant didn't recycle.. a 100% of that waste would go into the environment :/... so I don't see the damage there...maybe they should simply try to make the process more efficient... but what do you recommend? Not recycling? -.-
@KILLOPTY - You're not going to have any immediately apparent health problems from chemicals leaching from plastic into your water and food, just like you wouldn't have any immediately apparent health problems if you lived right next to a nuclear power plant and absorbed radiation your whole life. It's just that laboratory tests have shown that these chemicals cause cancer, and these chemicals are making their way from the plastic into our food, and from there into our bodies.
Replace your Nalgene with a Clean Canteen rather than plastic water bottles. The thin plastic has chemicals in it as well, and eventually as you will see, the chemicals will leech into our water.
Would the solution be then to stop buying and using plastic? Yes. However, recycling the plastic is better than taking it to the dump in the first place. Recycling will never save our environment alone, we need to stop consuming so much, and reusing more.
Mainly this happens because the plastics industry is so huge, so they can just lobby governments to side with them and buy whomever they need. There's no reason why people can't use cloth grocery bags or we can't make disposable containers that can be burned without releasing toxic chemicals. They just don't want to, because that would ruin business.
there is good news, in some counties in CA and other states, they are banning plastic take out boxes. In San Francisco there is a tax/ban on plastic bags. Business is not ruined, just changed. There is progress against plastic, keep believing!

thank you for the info............ but you know. i rather recycle while learning about its pros and cons. obviously at this point nothing positive can come from doing nothing
keeping the people worried is the best way to make them spend their money.
ah there is a word called terrorism where it functions almost the same. this year americas biggest milltary budget was decided. didn't the guy want to end up with things? no he didn't it is the same old moneymaking bastards behind..
free your mind. free the world. don't over-consume.
Metal cans are lined with plastic! Cut one open and measure the resistance with an ohm meter. It will read infinite ohms. Au is harmful to humans. Fe is okay in proper quantities. Food that is kept in a metal can too long will become toxic.
DEHP is NOT in PET or PEET the plastic used to make drinking water bottles.
PET or PEET is recycled. Its largest user has one factory, not near a water way that does nothing but recycle it. They are expanding that plant to gather more. Other recyclers know to ship it to them for money.
YIKES! Sure hits home with everyone. I've gotten rid of all of our hard plastic bottles and bought all stainless steel bottles. I've researched alot and the best ones I've found are "FOF bottles".
fuck the news...they get pay to say wat they say...and may be even allied with the fda. questions is: how did the harm even come about sooo big in the first place...somethings wrong
kmongreen - your comment is utter rubbish! You suggest that BBC News is paid by the chemical industry to misinform the public about the health risks of BPA, but offer absolutely no proof whatsoever to support this idioitc assertion! YOU ARE AN IDIOT so SHUT UP!!
I just found a glass specialty place online that sells those old fashion type gallon and half gallon glass jugs cause my oils taste like plastic over time, I figure if they will not sell oil in glass the manufacturers are adding to the landfills. I'll just pour my stuff into huge glass containers reusing them and chuck their plastic bottles. I dont want my stuff sitting in them too long cause they really do smell and taste like plastic in not too long a time.
What is it with people who can't see a connection between big business and they're disregard for public health. The plastic is harmful PERIOD! At that point they should try to find something that isn't going to slowly kill us. But they don't. They use it anyway, cause they don't care about our health they just care about profits. We're doing ourselves and our kids a disservice if we turn a blind eye to this and continue to shrug and say, if the FDA approves then it must be safe. WRONG!
Wow... 4 real? you have nothing else to do!!... at least they recycle something and dont throw all the garbage to a dumpster ... what if they make a profit out of it?
I think the point he's making is that the profit they're making is from a material that shouldn't be manufactured in the first place. It's full of toxic chemicals that are killing us.
Actually it's not... these companies test the materials and identify the ones that are safe, also the companies than buy these reprocessed materials are forced to test them before using it to produce any bottle or whatever product that is going to contain any liquid or whatever it is for human consumption
Really that's why the Canadian government has classified bisphenol A, which goes into making polycarbonate plastic as a 'dangerous' substance. Next time you grab a baby bottle, or a water jug for your cooler, look at the recycling number....oops. it's polycarbonate. I guess when they were identifying the 'safe' plastics they forgot this one...
By the way, I work for a recycling plant like this one and what this guy's saying is right on the money. NOBODY forces us to test anything. It comes in bales that we grind up, melt down, and sell to manufacturers. But, if it makes you feel safe BELIEVING that we actually give a crap about your health, then all the best to you. LOL!
If you read the risk assessment for Bisphenol A (BPA) on the HC website you will see that Heath Canada concluded that all uses of BPA aside from baby bottles and babyfood containers was safe.
Well, Health Canada is the ONLY health regulatory agency in the world that has taken any action regarding human exposure to BPA. US FDA and the EU have done nothing at all about BPA. So, in reply to your question I would accept Health Canada's recent CEPA assessment report on BPA as the most up to date and cautious government agency assessment of BPA to date.
If this reprocessor is breaching regulation report them, I run a PET-HDPE bottle re-processing facility in the UK which closely mointored by Defra... I would welcome anyone round our facility.
Compassion is one of the greatest ideas. Goodwill returns hundredfold. Make a change and you will find out experientially.

You got some of it correct, but for instance,
Blood was shipped plastic bags and nurses noted that the injured who received that blood were getting sicker.
Today, blood is stored in plastic bags albeit a different material.
The text with this video should be better researched and rewritten with facts and documented sources of scientific studies.
