Disregard InterestingFlavour. I'm pretty sure he has no idea what he's talking about. I only played trumpet through high school and we were hitting notes that high my freshman year. This is cool for sure, but those brass kids really need to practice.
Best part is that I'm the only one who's actually played or read this piece. When you're as old as I the Second A above the staff is a pretty high note. Either in this video it is being taken down the octave or this is a different arrangement entirely. Also, why must you think that the trumpet should be heard at all times? This piece is mostly a Saxophone feature, so someone could be playing notes that high you just cannot hear them.
Also what is the highest note you could hit Freshman year? I disregard high notes almost entirely due to the fact I prefer Second trumpet for solos or an entirely lower part, due to the fact I have a friend who enjoys taking the higher parts. The highest I'll comfortably make it up to is the first B (natural) above the staff... and 1st part on this piece go much higher than that; unless of course like I said before you are taking the part down the octave.
"...I prefer Second trumpet for solos or an entirely lower part..."
That says it all right there. Look IF, we're just offering up some constructive criticism for these kids. It sounds to me like someone criticized you a little too much as a kid and now you're thin-skinned. Just relax a little and learn to accept criticism; you'll be a much happier person ;-).
You're still not understanding me, I guess I'll spell the whole thing out for you. I've played this piece, there are notes that go up to the second A above the staff on the arrangement I've played, those are considered ridiculously high notes to me. You can't "prove that wrong".
The pianist has a long way to go before he's near as ugly as Lyle Mayes.

I'm glad this was posted! Good quality video, we're playing this and I've linked it to most of the band via Facebook.

Not a bad effort on a difficult bit of music - well done!

Love this piece, some of the percussion ( aux.-mostly or bongos w/e it is) is kinda bothering me though

Pretty crazy. Nice arrangement. High brass needs some help though.

Even the fourth trumpet part hits some ridiculously high notes... First Trumpet is nothing short of ludicrous.

Let me guess, you are in 7th grade and just made 2nd chair in your school band.

Let me guess you know absolutely nothing about music and feel like bashing people on Youtube? Seriously, what is your problem?
InterestingFlavour 2 years ago
I actually know quite a bit about music. Those are not, as you say, "ridiculously high notes."
eysikal 2 years ago
Have you actually looked at the part?...
InterestingFlavour 2 years ago
I have not. But, I've played trumpet for 15 years and professionally during some of that time. So I have a pretty good idea of what's going on. ;)

That's completely the opposite of me actually, and that's not the point of what I was driving at.

*Sigh* Bro, seriously, relax a bit. There's really no reason to get this worked up over some simple criticism.

I wasn't getting criti... you just don't get it :(

Wow InterestingFlavor, don't get your panties in a bunch. Life's too short to get worked up when you've clearly been proven wrong.

Exactly what I've been saying. IF just needs to take a chill pill (or 2! ;-) ) and relax a bit. Life is really too short.

Great Selection.. Not an easy tune.. But great idea putting this to big band.
