  • Thanks Jimmy. There's no question about America's role in building the Middle East into what it is today. Next time I hear a Democrat tell me a Republican is a war monger and greedy for oil, I'll copy this clip.

  • "vital interests" same words used by hillary recently. apparently the media talked more openly about the importance of oil in the 70's

  • Carter was a realist. He combined imperial strength with conservation. The first thing Reagan did when he captured the White House was remove the solar panels. Jimmy Carter was the last great President of the American Century.

  • Wow have you ever got it wrong fraizer57

  • Well Carter is now the second worst President...Obama's at least good for something

  • This mother fu..ker should be behind bars. Carter is the father of the Islamic revolution in Iran. By overthrowing the progressive & pro western Shah of Iran & by selling Iran to the terroist anti USA Mullahs in 1979 he unleashed the virus of radical Islam. Rise of Hezbullah & Hamas, killings of the US army in Lebanon, Sep 11 is all the direct result of Carter's evil deeds not say about 2 million dead in Iran Iraq war 7 million refugees & the mess in Iran since 1979. Fu..ck Carter.

  • President Carter should have allowed the Shah to crack down on his own people. It would have been a hard choice but geopolitics would be different and perhaps better for the United States in the long-run. By the way, you need to take a more balanced approach of the Carter administration. I did with the Reagan administration. Realized he was not the crazy conservative people made him out to be.

  • My friend, the masses are asses wherever you go. Indeed, you are a case in point. That, of course, is irrelevant, because it is not the masses that make foreign policy in the USA, Israel, or anywhere else.

  • Israel certainly doesn't "direct" US foreign policy, but it is the case that AIPAC is the strongest ethnic lobby in America and does exert considerable influence on Congress. It consistently makes the top 5 most powerful lobbies list (Forbes).

  • It does not surprise me that AIPAC is the strongest ethnic lobby in America. If Jews didn't look out for their own, there would be few, if any, Jews left in the world. I don't know how Forbes does its ratings, or where oil companies are on the list, but some special interests (like those who depend on oil consumption for their profits) are so big, they are literally integral to our economy, so less lobbying is needed to make their case to Congress.

  • America's interests should come first, not Israel's.

  • Happy to help. Maybe I can help you sort out the annoying little inconsistency of believing Israelis are dumb while believing Israelis were clever enough to trick America into fighting their wars for them. Nope, I must be a dumb Jew because I can't square that circle.

  • By now there's really no excuse for not realizing that it is our economy's complete dependence on the flow of oil, not the pro-Israel lobby, that has animated our policies and adventures in the Middle East. Blaming "the zionists" may be appealing (even to non-antisemites) because it makes a frustratingly complex situation simple. But its time to grow up and think.

  • now we know why they light their oilfields on fire when they are invaded by the gangsters of this nation!

  • @BOSKERONE78 "now we know why they light their oilfields on fire when they are invaded" that's exactly it. they know it's all about oil while the american people still do not thanks to the media.

  • thier all dicks every one of em. their dicks.

  • WOW!! this really brings many things into perspective. (the military bases stuff)

  • It's always simultaneously hilarious and disturbing to observe the cases in which the fight for national independence has elicited outrage in Washington and (by proxy) the press. One of the things that came out of the 1979 Iranian revolution was the discovery of a CIA produced tape giving instruction on how to torture women.

Yet the popular perception was (and is) of the threat of unprovoked Iranian violence. People were wearing 'Nuke Iran' T-shirts in the streets after the hostages were taken.

  • his is the truth.... industry owns us all!!

let take arms and fight the govt

  • i dont know a lot about Carters time in office so thank you for posting
