Thank you for mentioning Manhunter. I own it on Laserdisc and until now thought I was the only person on earth who has ever seen it lol. It is truly an excellent thriller that no 80's era movie fan should miss.
Just wondering, since you say that you really enjoy musicals, have you seen the web series called Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog?
Really enjoyable...not sure if it is a movie or mini series, but it is a web exclusive production. Just something to check out when you have some time.
Also, I really enjoy the third Matrix, because I enjoyed the Mech bits...oddly my favorite part of the third.
And I had the opposite feeling from when you came out of Memento about Phantom Menace.
I'm under the impression that you don't say very much about... well, about what the movies are about. These are high-class films, yes, but it seems to me you readily assume that people know what happens in them. The name of the director has no information value to the average consumer, I dare say, but a few keywords would, like setting, characters, plot devices, key elements, trademark quotes, and so on.
Igniting discussion is one aspect, but there are other perspectives.
In fact, all of these movies are readily available in Europe and were big hits in the cinema. I just rarely go there cuz 90 % are a waste of money. I asked for further information because I mostly watch recommended movies.
Enjoyable as always Jason! Speaking of Phantom Menace, I really enjoyed it, though i didn't see it at the theaters actually. I was a HUGE Star Wars fan growing up(and still am) but i heard so many bad reviews and saw the Matrix, so i kinda overlooked it. Watched it before episode II came out, and i loved it. I enjoyed all the films a lot. Though Empire is still the best imo!
Speaking of Nolan, I loved The Prestige. Mentioned it in the second half of my movie ramble (which I've yet to edit down to coherence) Haven't gotten to see Momento before.

Yeah - I've seen Dr Horrible - great stuff! I'm a big Joss Whedon fan, so I got the series off of iTunes.

I believe most people watching aren't watching to discover movies, but to learn his opinions of movies that we know about.
And most of these movies are very pop culture that most people know about anyway.
At least from the states...which I guess would be a reason why somebody might not know much about them...

And we do have escalators over here. :-)

I can understand that, I think I might have been spoiled growing up when most of these came out because my dad was a big movie buff.
I was just wondering that with Americas culture being so different than most of the world these movies might not be popular.
And by outside of the states, I was talking like in Africa, or in South America where going to the cinema isn't even viable.

sure - I can add a few more descriptive bits to each film so you know what it's about in case you haven't heard of it before.

I still like parts of Phantom Menace a lot, but some of it was so misguided. And I agree - Empire SB is the BEST! :D

The first Matrix was truly fantastic.

Yeah - The Prestige was cool. His first short film "Following" is also worth seeking out.
