  • so if i understand you correctly, you train them like a cat exept you put some poo in the litter and reward them for pooing in the right place?

  • i never thought of doing it this way!!! thank you soooooo much. honestly my ratties are so much more enjoyable when they are clean. and this will make them feel better too!

  • i hope it was an accident that the female got pregnet.

  • @beautyfan66 Because god forbid somebody make some baby rats if they damn well please.

    /sarcasm

  • Too bad I always keep my pet rats on old newspapers (cheap, non-toxic, fun and easy to clean every other day :p). If I want them to use a reserved area as a toilet I suppose I'd have to switch to a new bedding, then put the new bedding in the reserved area and after they learn to use the reserved area with the new bedding, I can switch back to having newspapers on the bottom again right?

They love tearing up newspapers :p.

  • You have some beautiful rats!

  • @bunnyhelp101 uhm...yes they can rats are extremely intelligent

  • @etanna I know that there smart. But just because soemthing is smart doesn't mean it doesn't have other flaws. Rat's don't even relize that there poohing/peeing....so good lukc litter training ur rats, it'll never happen...

  • @bunnyhelp101 there are an endless array of videos of people who trained their rats to poo in the toilet and or a litter box.

  • @Nutty2087 i know, im just taking from my sisters word :P

  • @bunnyhelp101 oh okay lol

  • @etanna Did I say rats aren't smart? No I didn't. They ARE very smart. I'm not dumb, I know there smart, my sister told me that they don't even relize that there going to the bathroom. Don't blame me.

  • @etanna rats are just as intellegent as dogs!

  • @bunnyhelp101 have you owned rats? my guess is no

  • @0xyoursweet666x0 Actaully, if u bothered to watch my videos, u would know I own a rat now. His name is Rose, and I love him. I'm not saying rat's aren't intellegient, I'm just saying that it's a waste of ur time to litter train them, as they can't be litter trained. I have also owned another rat, named Norman. I actaully didn't own it, it was my sisters, so it was her decision when she decided to give it up :(

  • @bunnyhelp101 I've had 10 female rats and all 10 of them have been litter trained, if they were out of their cage running around and needed to use the toilet, they would jump back in their cage and use the litter box. What you're saying is false.

  • @AmberLouMakeup Okkkkkkkkkkkk, maybe that's ur rats, but my sister said they can't be trained, so talk ot her ;) and i usually agree with my sister (well....sometimes) she said that they dont even notice that there poohing :D

  • @bunnyhelp101

Your a retard, rats can be litter trained.. Ive had about 30 rats in total and every single one was litter trained except one who got really sick, you dont know what your talking about.

  • @kelsijackson16 Cool. Don't call people retards, it's rude. I have my opinion, u have urs, congratz ;)

  • @bunnyhelp101 I beg to differ. When I first got my rats they pooed in the bed, in my clothes; everywhere. Now they never poo anywhere except their cage unless they're out for a very long time. And they always poo in the same area in the cage. Good try though.

  • @JayGigantic Wow, good for u, smart one :)

  • @bunnyhelp101 i put a rock in the corner of my rat's cage and began to notice that she would go and stand on the rock and poop and pee behind the rock...she doesn't poop while she walks she actually gets settled and then poops. so ya they do realize what they're doing, they're not dumb...

  • @Baby6att That's wonderful! :D I never said they were dumb there very smart and I know that. GOSH.

  • @bunnyhelp101 rats can be litter tained dumb ass some rats are smarter than certain dogs. =.=

  • Thank you for this vid.. My rat is using the litterbox, and soon, i can use blankets in the cage... Love it, ;)

  • look like i mean

  • i want rats but my mom wont let me :p

p.s did the babies come yet... if yes please tell me what they liik like

  • I have a rat named Toddy... and today, i'll start the litterbox straining.. :D I really really hope that it's gonna work out for me... :)

    (LoveRatz)

  • hi i have two rats and they r both girls but they dont really get along how do i get them to get along? right now they are in seperate cages

  • @destinyanna You just have to put them together, they will fight for about a week but that's normal. The only thing is that if after a while they are still fighting and drawing blood then you have to seperate them c: I have 2 female rats and they fight occasionally but that's just what you have to expect. I hope I helped c:

  • I was wondering when should u get ur rat like if there a baby o r if there an adult. im pretty sure u get them when there a baby right? :(

  • how big will a hooded rat get

  • cute rats

  • wow u touching rat poo with yo handddddds ,dirty, but cool rats

  • Nice video, I just started litter training my rats today too. I was surprised at how well they did right away =D

  • hi im trying so hard to train my rats but they would still poo everywhere have any other tips on litterbox training

  • I've had 2 rats and didn't even realise that they needed training because i put 1 poo of theirs in the tray and they never missed since. I'm pretty sure they both pee's in the litter tray too except when they were too lazy to move from bed ¬.¬

Thanks for the vid for any rats I may get in future :)

  • Do I need 2 buy a litter box or can i use a plastic contaner

  • Very well done video, I like how you were straight forward with how you explained everything.. looks like I will need to find something my rats can start training with- I may have to wait with my older ones, they are quite set in their ways. My cages are parrot cages and all the raisins end up in teh pan below the grate at the bottom of the cage, so its like their trained already but they do have a favorite corner to do it in- must use that to my advantage! Thanks again for posting the video!

  • my rats will do mojority of their buisness in the box but they always do other poos around there cage. should i just keep picking up the other poo?

  • What do you use as the litter?

  • poopies XD

  • ummmm gloves maybe?

  • you have NO idea how much people like you is aprechiated!!! ty so extremely a lot for sharing your experience, knowledge and sweetness. i <3 the internets and the good ppl behind it! <3

  • this is a dream come true. and ZOMFG I LOVE RATS

  • Thx 4 the info I hope u wash ur hands lol

  • I might try this for my girls, it would make cage cleaning sooo much easier! LOL :) and ur rats are cute!!!

  • How old should they be because I got new baby rats but I don't know if they're that used to the groundbut I use the same ground as the pet store I got them from. PLZ reply! :)

  • how many rats are suitable in this cage? im looking at this model...

  • how do you put the word bubbles in the video?

  • Great video! Although, I do believe you may want to take that wood out. Rats hardly ever pee and poo in a litter box. Normally they will just poo in it. If they pee on that wood it will mold. I'm sure you already have taken it out but I just wanted to inform you! Great VIDEO! I wish I could get my girls to poo in the littler box. I tried to train them to do it, but they said no...

  • @CameronRobinson6 mine are actually best at peeing in their litter. i do have a litterbox of some sort in almost every accessible corner of their cage. they occasionally poop out of the boxes (only in the cage though) but they like to be in corners when they pee

  • What kind of blankets do you use or that are suitable?

  • @lornamelodywelch

i just used baby blankets made of fleece

  • @lornamelodywelch rats are aloud to have fleece cause they cant chew it. it is very hard for them to rip it and chew it.

  • @lornamelodywelch Fleece is best, any other fabric can have strings that could get wrapped around their feet, legs or tail and cause injury.

  • stop calling ur big belly :Dx

  • My ratties like to sleep in the litter box. They used to use it till i switched from shavings as bedding to a towel and now they go EVERYWHERE. Advice?

I have litter in their litter box.

  • @CaptainXCorkie try ground walnut shell. it's a little messy but most rats like it for peeing. and maybe you should switch back to shavings if they were good with that before! (aspen, not cedar or pine)

also i found a hamster litter that also works well. less messy and better at odor control than walnut, but more expensive. my ratties played with it the first night, but my morning they decided it was their litter.

  • @CaptainXCorkie also...maybe they want bedding they can move around and bunch up...perhaps that's why they're sleeping in the litter box now. do you have a good nesting box? give them plain paper towel scraps to play with :) my babies are always stuffing their boxes with bedding and paper towels to make them snug.

  • im gonna potty train my rat but im getting 3 more rats this weekend how can i train them vuz it's not THERE poop

  • do u use sand as the ground?

  • @MsGymnast4life

    no i use blankets

  • How are her babies now? You still have any?

  • I like the noise the poo makes when you drop it on the plate *ching*

    I dont know why haha

  • Thx! I have learned 2 cool/nice tricks I can teach rats...haha...:)

  • Is that a Siamese rat? The red eyed? He looks just like my Noah :) I have 4 boys. One's a rex, brown, capped-hooded, 1yr 4/5 months, a mink/silver berkshire, a sandy coloured (don't know the proper colour name) self, and a siamese, all aged about 4 months :)

  • poodles..hehehehehe :)

  • @BlueBoots720 lol totally agree!

  • Do rats bite?

  • Only out of fear or an illness. Not often I come across a rat who bites. :]

  • @lauraleesmithagain rats dont bite normally if you dont handle them enough then they will

just saying dont get a bite and a nibble mixed up they DONT feel the same

  • Why not just fill the whole bottom with bedding? you have to sanitize the cage weekly, anyway...

  • im getting 3 rats all boys and do i get a metal or a plastic one pls relpy

  • Go for the metal. Rats love to chew plastic and its not good for them. Hope I helped =]

  • Great video :) I've been trying to litter train my two rats... they seem a bit resistant so far. I also have several foster rats, and they're hard to litter train since I only have them until they get adopted! But good videos, thanks! Will keep trying!

  • Where did you get your rats? just wondering.

  • Hi nice vid! Do they pee in the litterbox as well and what if they are free in the room? Do they return to their cage to poop? Thanks!

  • they do pee in the litter box as well but not ALWAYS :P depends on how early and how well you train them i guess. and yes if you show them a litter box when they are out for free roam time they will use the litter box instead of pooing on the floor just remember to reward reward reward

  • Okay Thanks a lot!! =D it's really helpful. Good luck!

  • my rats keep urinating on there ledges and i have to keep cleaning it with tissue because they run it and start to smell and get all yellow and stinky (so i bath them ) so im trying to find out how to litter train for wee can u help plz??? thanks Btw good vid and ill try it :)

  • that's a hard habit to break them of cause they are marking territory try putting a small litter box on the shelf they like to pee on most to help catch most of it. i like to use desk organizers from the Tupperware section at walmart the are small hard square and plastic so they are easy to clean

  • omg ive been looking for someone on youtube to show a vid like this, ive had 3 rats, zippy, zipper, and zoozoo and i got the litterbox think

and idk how to use it =[,

  • it will save you a lot of money in the long run on the litter and be sure to use litter that is safe for the rats do not use soft wood shavings like pine or spruce.

  • you said do not use pine?? that is what the pet store had me buy yesterday for my rat when i got him. . . any idea what is best to use ??

  • im gonna try that when my rats are older. lol, i like your lil comments you put for ur rats.
