  • James is sensational, quick and clear. Big time range. Wow :)

  • Oh nice! I love this!!!

  • good variations

  • australians get the job done ;)

  • Notice it's mostly 1st 3rd and 4th position.

  • @usafjohnson Notice that that's were the notes will sound the most harmonic. and once you get into a high range that's all the notes are there isn't a 6th position anymore

  • @usafjohnson lol oh god, he's playing in the key, someone arrest him

  • 240p there we meet again so where is 1080p?

  • @MrRubyxp You're not a very grateful person are you? You got to hear something like that, and all you have to say is you want a better quality video? Take the bad with the good, especially when the good is THAT good.

  • holy crap... he's a gonna b a legend

  • omg that tone at :40!!!!

  • @mrmilkmanband is a Bb at 3rd octave

    i play trombone

  • @GhostRyder443 its actually a double F, and he goes up to a G at 0:43, its still pretty high though

  • @m0br13n

    Oh well, not really...

  • nice mullet...

  • which concert is this? i want it!!!!

  • i just satarted play ing this a week ago and cant hit an f.

  • I can usually hit triple Bb, though it sounds awful, Gs and As sound okay though

  • @pedropedaltones I was able to hit a triple Bb as a senior in HS consistently. Of course, it's screeched. There's no real musical value unless it's the ending of a fast jazz song, and you want to out-screech the trumpets,

  • Gosh dang he's a freaking trumpet player

  • i can get down to this.

  • Damn good solo sir!

  • sonds like a trumpet

  • Its almost like the rhythm section can't keep up with his intensity. Unreal!

  • every professional jazz player can play just as fast as a sax or trumpet... it's about the line and the motion of the melody in the solo... not how fast you can play it... sometimes... most times, speed destroys a good solo. check yourself sweederlander

  • Man what note can this guy go up to I'm in High School and I can sometimes hit a high G or G flat and that's pretty hard for me

  • @therandumbness96 Im in high school too and can hit the F above the F above the staff. But my instructor can hit the Bb above the Bb...ABOVE the Bb above the staff...

  • @118724 im in middle school, 8th grade, my highest note on trombone has been i believe Bb above the Bb above the Bb on staff or Bb above the Bb above the staff, not really sure it was just to high to tell :P

  • @alexferrandobauer same to you ;) lol

  • @118724 dude that note is physically impossible. The highest note I've ever heard of from any trombone on youtube(I've searched) is triple F.

Oh and it's a lot less confusing if you use that double/triple kind of terminology ;). (High F is first above the staff, then double and so on. lol)

  • @pedropedaltones Physically Possible. i play trombone for a while now. Been focussing on high notes instead of low notes. Resulted in a still able to hit note of 2 Octaves down the C in the staff.

and my High register, after some months of playing and funning around. I'm able to 100% hit a Eb while playing. (meaning the Eb above staff + an octave.) I can hit an F quite some times, and I'm currently trying to get 100% F, and some times a G), so its not strange. Profs hit up to Bb over my range.

  • @foxxiej try hitting a high Bb in a song for about 5 measures LIP SLURS FTW!!!!!!!!!

  • @foxxiej Yes, I can hit double Eb on my bass trombone, too. But we're talking about triple Bb. Totally different world. Even if it's screeched out, it's still a useless pitch even for trumpet.

@euphfellowship Yes, triple Bb is theoretically possible, but ^^^look^^^, and I just don't believe you that you can hit triple Gb yourself.

  • @pedropedaltones i can hit triple Bb on my alto tombone. i can hit triple Gb as well any note. you name it, and its REASONABLE ill hit it. guaranteed

  • @pedropedaltones

It's entirely possible. With a good warm up I have a consistent double Bb, and a couple times as high as the Gb above double C.

It's air and practice. That's all. Theoretically, there's no limit to how high the instrument can be played.

  • hes great

  • brilliant

  • i can play this, but then i can't use my face for a week while my lips recover.

  • 5 people can burn in hell.

  • James what is the model used and the mouthpiece trombone sound to have that flexibility and quality that you could give me recommendations ... thanks

  • @pablobone Haha, if only it was that simple, dude! I think its a king that he's playing, but instruments will only make a good sound better, it cant give you a good sound out of nowhere, unfortunately, or we'd all have one ;)

  • @pablobone Haha, if only it was that simple, dude! I think its a king that he's playing, but instruments will only make a good sound better, it cant give you a good sound out of nowhere, unfortunately, or we'd all have one ;)

  • now that is a great solo

  • who says that a trombone cant sound good XD

  • yes he is swearing, a well told story

  • Tell me the name of this song!! ill practice my ass off until i can play it :D

  • @laurelia65 lol my mistake im on my sisters account if u know the name send me a mail: alexferrandobauer

  • and my dad said u cant play songs on the trom bone haha

  • Yes he's got great technical chops but all those high notes and fast passages would mean nothing without his great ideas, phrasing and his great sense of the blues to back it up.

I've been playing for 40 years. My advise to anybody learning to improvise is: Play your ideas with emotion. Don't just string together cool licks. Concentrate on tone, phrasing and building tension. As your technique improves you can add dazzling effects but that should just be the icing on the cake.

    I know this guy

  • He looks like a happy baby.. tremendous respect for him though

  • @MurphysL4w I agree with the other guys but also James plays trumpet which I've found really helped my high notes. It's just a though for you all :P

  • he is good!!

  • i'm proud that im a t-bone player;)

  • My god... I can't play a single note out of all of those. Highest i can play is the first F above the staff, giving me a 2 octave range.

  • @MurphysL4w i know what you mean i cant either but i have a 3 octave range wit the pedals :P

  • @MurphysL4w How long have you been playing?

  • @MurphysL4w keep playing. the high stuff will come. long tones and lip slurs, every day!!

  • @TheRumster also remeber to increase the air flow more rather than tightnening up so much

  • He rocks

  • its not fair

  • He is AMAZING!

  • Wow!!! And he plays the trumpet too!

  • sem palavras e só emoções!

  • this dude's a friggin Android.. i got to meet him... dude... friggin unbeleavable

  • James - I would like you a lot more if you settled with playing like that on EITHER the trombone or trumpet...

    Annoying and marvolous!

  • that G is impossible unless you are good and practice at least 2 hours minimum. I mean to really make it sound good. the A above that, the Bb above that and even triple E is easier than that G above double F...

  • I agree. I can play the G sometimes but it doesn't sound as good as the Bb above it and i can play those all of the time.

  • you can tell by the look on his face that he loves his life.

  • so much soul at the end

  • FREAKING AMAAZING

  • Что бы там эти чуваки не писали Моррисон лучший!!!

  • One of the best trombone solos I've ever heard....James Morrison rocks.

  • wooow

  • Dang, its a large bore too... could take a few lifetimes to get that nice of a sound

  • great high regiter.

  • Such a tasty player.

  • good shit!

  • he should add a melody to his solo instead of sounding fast all the time. well as a trombonist my self, its something i like to do. idk bout other peoples

  • A trombonists excuse to not being able to play fast ;)

  • Well Mr. I can criticize James Morrison why don't you upload your own video

  • @sweederlander well its crazy for them to play fast. they are supposed to play medium and slow but complex :D

  • @alba444

    Or fast AND complex ;)

  • @sweederlander I'm pretty sure there is no question that of all the instruments played in jazz the one that is the most difficult to play fast on is the trombone. James Morrison is just a god. And I can't help but feel that the fact that he plays trumpet lets him cheat somehow...

  • @sweederlander whoever said that ;P

  • @sweederlander Is it important to play fast?. The Debussy or Ravel their compostions weren't exactly fast - their art to manage the silence between notes - as Basie demonstrated to effectively.

  • great the dragon ball z fan is telling professional trombonists how to play

  • that was a beast what he did on 0:40

  • Comment removed

  • @aprez23 on 0:43 was even higher

  • @aprez23 The Bb with vibrato?

  • @aprez23 you know when it get so wasome at 1:33

  • @reptifreak99 LMAO

  • @aprez23

Do you know how high that was?

  • Wow that's the best vibrato that I've ever heard on a double E at 0:40

  • does anyone know exactly what song this comes from? i like the changes

  • All Blues by Miles Davis if my ears don't decieve me.

  • what kind of trombone is this please let me know i've been looking for one exactly like this

  • You can tell it's a Yamaha, and a large bore. I'd say a Xeno. Just look at the Yammie site for one that has that closed wrap and I'm sure you could get the one you're looking for.

  • It's a medium large bore like a Bach 36.

    .525 in or 13.34 mm.

  • There's no way that's a yamaha xeno... those didn't come out until 2004ish and that video was done way before 2004, plus there is no such thing as getting a xeno with a closed wrap f-attachment unless somehow you know someone at the factory that'd do that for you.

  • james plays his own design of trombone, which Yamaha produces. look up the 'james morrison trombone' in yamaha.

  • holy night, 0:40 is UNBELIEVABLE!

  • it's not that hard dude it's only a couple of double high g's

  • O.O

Wonderful. I wish i could get a sound like that out of my bone...

  • wow most people would say this is an inspiration but personally it kind of depresses me and makes me realize ill never be that good on the trombone

  • I know, right? I would be content with being even half as good as he is.

  • Dont forget James is the King .if you spent as much time on the toot, you to would be great .its all time in and james has clocked up mega hours.

  • if ur thinking that then u obviously don't practice enough

  • well i was being humble when i said that plus i was worried about auditions coming up but thanks for the extra slap in the face. ps. i mean that as jokingly as possibly and that was not intended to start a flame war.

  • lol so i'm not the only one? i've got all-state auditions they are a while from now but the music is extremely hard .i've also just auditioned for my school jazz band.good luck in your audition.

  • oh my

  • omg that is UH-MAY-ZING! i luv it! my trombone playing is great, but it sounds like a dying animal compared to this dude!

  • :o He's Freaking AMAZING

  • i dont think ill ever get a sound that nice out of my trombone lol =P

  • un pazzo!!!!!!!!

  • I didn't know a trombone could get the tone of a trumpet

  • yeah if your sexy enough. like this guy.

  • i got a trombone that he designed its cool YSL456JGII

  • how can a guy be this guy good on two instruments. it really is unfair. he is so good! the legato double/doodle (what ever he uses) is ridiculous!

  • Really nice!!

  • truly amazing

  • que Loko por dios!! muy bueno impresionante!!

  • and that's why trombones kick ass

  • oops sorry i accidently pressed the thumbs down button :( but for that i give this commment 10 thumbs up! Trombones do KICK ARSE!

  • @itgodzilla i play trombone, and dude you are so right.

  • Excelente, no tengo palabras...

  • dude he is seriously awesome!!!!

i've met him before, he's pretty nice.

  • whats this song name??

  • Wow! He actually played the blues!! that was bad ass! This guy is pretty phenomenal! Check out his other vids.

  • why?

  • because he can't come close to doing that.

  • doing what?

  • Medaling in the Olympics...
