@Rafathaman94 Yeah I guess so, but was just a tad frustrating on the break points throughout 2nd and 3rd set. It's just a shame that Gabashvili plays crap more often than he plays good.
I was there at this match and I had lots of fun watching it. He put up a great fight against nadal. I couldn't believe two tiebreaks. I could hear them both, they were so loud.
i was very impressed by the gabashvili played..he first came out looking like a douchebag..and i was like...wuuuuut??....but he backed it up with some fierce forehands/backhands/volleys...if he gets his act together..definately top 20 maybe even top 10!
He has to make it more flatter, his top spin forehand will not work in hard courts, the sooner he accepts the fact and make adjustments the better chances he will have of winning US OPEN. Tall guys with flat shots will trouble him big time..he needs to change that forahand to flat and fast.. topspin will not work.may work in early round but life will be difficult later on in tournament. his game is just not suitable to fast courts.. he needs some luck to win this one..
Imonto: Should I remind you that the head to head between Nadal and Del Potro is still in favour of Rafa (4-3)? And that the last two times that both players met Nadal was injured? I really think that Del Potro is a great player, very competitive, bus he's miles away from what Nadal achieved in his career as a tennis player: 8 grand slams, the player with more Masters Series / longest serie of matches unbeaten in clay, four finals in a row in Wimbledon, etc. It is not that bad, don't you think?
@dlp1981 Del Potro won the last 3 meetings on HC, injury or not. He is a bad match up for Nadal on the surface and achievements don't really have much to do with it. Look at Nalby's record against Fed. What has Nalby achieved compared to him? Nadal may have the slim lead for now, but I expect a healthy Delpo to even it up in the future.
@dlp1981 dont get me wrong.. i think rafa is a great player and all that...but ive noticed that almost everytime he looses a match (including the final in london), there seems to be some excuse such as him being injured or jaded etc. The fact of the matter is, a loss is a loss no matter what the situation may be and due credit must be given to the victor.
nadal is lucky del potro is out because he would of lost that match easy. im looking forward to seeing del potro coming back in 2011 as he said. Oh yeah this year sucked dick in tennis last year was way better and more exciting but thats just me i guess!
I thought Nadal had an easy bracket, then I looked at it at least 4x other times to double check. And to be honest, one can argue that he has the bracket of death. The next 4-5 players he will playing (assuming he gets that far) the vast majority will be rematches with many players he's either played in the past or this year. Much like Gabashvili, Istomin can make things interesting in the 2nd round.
I'm gonna LIKE this video because the quality is good and it was uploaded so quickly after the match, but it could have been better if the audio was in place and if I didn't have to listen that towelhead.
Dang, Rafa was in major trouble in this match. He played so much under his capabilities that it makes me wonder if he was playing it cool and resting for the end.
I agree, his topsin forehand was a little shaky and he leaves that ball short too often...big hitters are going to tee off on it...get ready to see a lot of Rafa scrambling during the open.
It helps when Nadal serves well but two tiebreaks and not capitalising on break points in a Round 1 match is dangerous territory to be in. Nadal will learn from this but his future Round opponents would see this match as a boost in confidence.
i think its obvious that there isnt an english version...look at the lettering on the screen. Good video quality and the vids are up so quickly after the match

The shot at 5:37... god mode. I have no clue to how Nadal can nonchalantly slice it back.

nadal was a little bit too passive in some points....
he will get big trouble against guys who can put him under pressure

wow, nadal was dropping a lot of short balls here. tall, flat-hitting guys will have a feast here. his serve is excellent though.
azumi149 1 year ago
@azumi149 luckily for nadal, the only tall guys left in the draw are monfils and soderling. I can't see them beating nadal
